All Dragonflight content update patches so far have been mediocre

I’m starting to wonder whether the “patch every 2 months” paradigm has backfired.

The 4 original DF zones and all associated content were amazing. However, after that, none of the content updates came close to these in terms of quality:

  • Forbidden reach: everybody has probably forgotten this ever existed, nowadays - deserted and bot paradise
  • Zaralek cavern: claustrophobic underground zone with a tedious reputation grind, cutesie mole people, and elite quests that require groups. I rarely go there as I hate flying through the tunnels in and out
  • Emerald dream: the emptiest most generic zone. There’s nothing to do there, you can see some people on reset day and then for the rest of the week the place is dead - no bosses, rares, treasures or interesting quests
  • Gilneas/New night elf capital city/archeology event: none of these are good or interesting in any way.

So to me, 14 months later, there hasn’t been a single interesting content patch. Nothing of the scale or quality of Zereth Mortis. If anything, quality deteriorates.

If 10.2.5 is an indication of the future of the game, then I’d prefer to have a patch each 4 months, rather than 2, but at least of a higher quality.

There is nothing wrong with you not liking the patches, people always feel differently.

However ofc the old end game zones are going to be pretty obsolete once they are surpassed by new content. That’s the whole point. It has worked like this as long as I’ve been playing.

Forbidden reach: Fly around and kill rares in caves.
Zaralek Caverns: You are in one big a55 cave, go and kill rares. #conquertehskies(in a cave)
Emerald Dream: The Crimes of Greendenweald (green Ardenweald)

And in other news:

  • WoW forum posters can always find something to complain about.

I think the worst thing of all these patches is the story. Even if we get less and or shorter content in the patches, there is no reason why the story in it should be far worse than a fanfiction

But… if I don’t complain, they would think I like it, right? Silence means agreement.

Sadly had bigger expectations for the Emerald Dream as a Druid I would have excepted a better raid with more Druidic themes and maybe a deeper questline but so far after the first week the only time I go back to kill the raid boss…
I think people kept complaining about cosmic ending stories and then Blizzard went overboard with simplifying the story… I hope we get a better story next xpac

Zereth Mortis had quality? I hated the place.

I quite like ED, but could have had more content. I don’t wanna leave the place.

I liked Zereth Mortis in terms of engagement, things to do, and variety.

I could fly around the zone waiting for some truly rare “rare” to appear so I could have a shot at an interesting item or mog, there was the protoform or whatever is called mount crafting I was gathering materials for, etc.

Also, the zone was varied with so many smaller “sub-zones” with different creatures and different vibe, while ED feels like some designer put together a bunch of trees on a green meadow for 15 minutes, and copy pasted that 100 times until it reaches the zone size in the specifications. How did it pass quality control is beyond me. There’s literally no content in this zone! Who wants to plant seeds? Really

its cheap and lazy.

Adding new zones all the time instead of refreshing old ones with new content, events, bosses etc. is kinda wrong way. It is extensive grow, but not intensive.
The more zones = the less players population per zone. Also online always go down during the expansion. So the world feels more empty and dead.

I believe that we don’t need new zones all the time, the world is already too big compared to the players online.
People playing Season of discovery because there smaller world that boiling with events, not the endless emptiness.

ED it’s way better than that ugly place. :cat:

I actually hate that ED has a firezone. That bit ruins it a bit. In fact, all my fav zones(visually) in the game only has one theme. Stormpeaks, original Teldrassil and Ashenvale, original Azshara, Feralas… at the top of my head

Yes, but devs really like the word CADENCE and put it in every statement about content. Doesn’t matter, that this green ardenweald zone is empty as hell, but have you seen… CADENCE?

Hey,theres new continent which is bigger than Kalimdor but you guys didnt discover it for the past 2000 years.
They shouldn’t add any new zones, its way to big, change the zones to go relevant/according to story.

This raid was by far one of the best designed ever, i mean dont know what u expected but it is a good one.

I’ll be blunt.

The ED is 10x worse than ZM. Zerith Mortis was unironically a great zone. There were tons of rares to farm and tons of activities to do. I remember getting on my flying mount and going from rare to rare with around 30-40 people for hours. ZM was also an iconic zone for its looks, and ED just looks like a devolved Ardenwield.

Meanwhile, the only ED activity I do now is it’s racing WQs for the manuscripts. It’s not a terrible zone like Korthia or Antoran Wastes, but it’s not great either. The main saving grace of this patch is the raid which is the best in DF, and one of the best in retail WOW.

I don’t agree that all of DF’s patches have been bad, however. The OP conveniently missed out 10.1.5 which is unironically the best x.x.5 patch ever.

It was good yes but not enough as a patch IMO
Compare it to Nighthold and Suramar and how much content we got back then

I did not omit 10.1.5 on purpose, I had genuinely forgotten about it as it did not introduce any new zones.

I looked it up after I read your post and realized this was the “Augmentation patch” which destroyed the balance of the game for both PVE and PVP by adding the most toxic spec ever, so I cannot rate this one highly either.

Everything feels boring and weak cause the main theme of DF is boring and weak
