and you gotta refarm new flightstones from zero - old crest are also unusable

from patch notes:

  • Crests are now currencies and will no longer take up inventory space.
  • Fragments have been removed. Sources that previously awarded fragments will now award crests.

I knew the currencies were reseting but I didn’t know they were freezing all our gear. All my Champion pieces that were stuck at 424 4/8 are now pretty much useless. I have to farm all my gear again, upgrade them to 424 with flightstones (not very expensive but still).
I might not even have bothered getting the Champion pieces. I got them hoping I’d get more Wyrms in Emerald Dream or at least slowing upgrade my Whelps to Wyrms.

This does not feel good as a system.

Gear is literally thrown at you in the patch, don’t worry about it. I have several 441 pieces already on my hunter.

The only thing I wonder is how I will now unlock the HC raid appearance for Aberrus with the catalyst if I can’t upgrade the gear.

I hope so but as an open world player I’ve not felt like that was the case most of this expansion.
I don’t get anything from vault or dungeon quests or bosses.

Time Rifts and Dream surges improved things with Vendors. Are their items stuck at s2 levels too?
I can do all the Dreamsurges again and get more Champion pieces, again.

I am wondering i can still get the s2 transmog in the catalyst (somewhere in the future) by getting a dreamsurge item and upgrade it to heroic transmog ilvl.

I was trying to get all the transmog sets. I got full Normal and Mythic set. I only need the chest piece for Heroic. And LFR… well, need 5 more pieces.

I’ve only started it really, done the intro questline up to fighting Druids of the flame and helping Merathra close a portal.
Then I went to do my weekly chores, Feast, Reserachers and Loam rep.
I’m in no hurry. Even at my slow pace I run out of quests to do after a few weeks.

So I have found the following:

  • Dreamsurge now gives 428 gear for the weekly (but if you catalyse it, it won’t give appearance and you can’t upgrade it?) and 415 tokens with the dust.
  • Time rift weekly now gives 428 adventurer gear, upgradable. I am going to get a piece, catalyse it and see what happens.
  • Suffusion camp still gives old gear however the quests give the current crests and so are worth doing.
  • World quests now give 415 gear minimum, upgradable.
  • Emerald Dream: 2 Weeklies give 441 gear and the quest/drop gear gives you 415+ which can be upgraded via flightstones. However, I’ve had a few adventurer drops too.
  • Haven’t checked Niffen yet

Edit: Niffen gives old gear but current whelp crests.

I just did the Niffen weekly. I got a 402 ring that is S2 and not upgradable.

I got some new Explorer Gloves (not sure where, I was clearing some bag space and found them) and was able to upgrade the all the way to 437 just with Flightstones and quite small amounts.
This is my highest piece of gear just now. So I guess I should be able to get quite highly geared for me, 437 seems quite good to me…

Update on Catalyst Appearance:
So with the time rift piece that is 428 upgradable I can catalyse it for free and get the aberrus heroic apperance. However, that stops it being upgradable.

It is really very bad not inform us early which they didnt.

While surprising (If you don’t read the news articles, anyway), gear in 10.2 has a better itemlevel by a sizeable margin, and early Dream-quests give a full set of that gear, and a fresh supply of flightstones and low-tier crests to upgrade it with, they just toss an almost-full set of armour at you (And a few weapons, too), so i think you’ll all recover from this setback quite quickly.

This feels like a final patch, where the games gives you so much “welfare” gear. Not complaining, I have many alts.
