All streamers quit?

pretty much all streamers have now quit classic and either went back to other games or retail. What went wrong with classic? why did it end up being such a massive dissappointment and a failure for most people? they couldn`t even stick around till BWL release :frowning:

Greedy streamers that took advantage of the classic hype to make cash. They didn’t give a damn about classic just wanted views .

It’s not vanilla. Layers, bugs, bots. To name a few.

They all rushed to the end as fast as possible, burned themselves out and the nostalgia goggles came off.

The playerbase is what went wrong with Classic.

Correct me if I’m wrong. But vanilla had this as well.

I seem to recall they actively fixed the bugs and removed bots at a much faster rate.

That’s true. Too bad classic is not prioritized in 2020.

I know, I was so excited for it.

I didn’t pay attention too much but I dont think AV grind was very popular with pvp players

Payo is still around…

As some already stated, most streamers are probably burnt out.

Sodapoppin hasn’t quit, he’s just not streaming it anymore.
Soni’s returning, he got banned for a month for account sharing XD.

The problem was that they were streaming on a PvP realm, so they kept being stream sniped.
So you either had to stream with an army of bodyguards or just be streamsniped lol.

Oh, and yeah… pretty much what Bigkeg said, the queue was basically ruining the WoW experience for streamers.

It started with to little servers and inability to play the game for hours due to queue. They didn’t acted decisively so that become a thing.

Then they didn’t look on H/A ratio which every pserver did, especially those TBC ones which without any control ended with >> 90% Horde. As ratio wasn’t managed much it ended up like retail with Horde dominant on majority of PvP realms. There is no vanilla way of making the ratios ok (aside of making some PvP realms purely monofaction) so any action was that more less likely.

Then we have bots, those retail ones in Nazjatar are noobs compared to Vanilla botting. Although de-ranking PvP bots brought some quite amusing videos.

And content releases. Some could say it somewhat looked good first on paper but it kind of lacked good timing. Previously it was done like so:
https://www.kronos-wow.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/timeline-yo.jpg
which was even shortened around AQ/Naxx to finish before expected mid summer Classic release (little did they know…). Christmas delay and lack of foresight what masses of players will do to 15 year old content they replayed for 10 000 years led to big gaps in content for vanilla-competitive players. Plus to many people expected the game must uphold their way of play so everyone wanted their own thing from Blizzard which likely made any decision making that much harder.

And if we are at content - it got released as quite loose version of what people were expecting. Pserver over the years were patching and limiting overly profitable activities. Classic released with mechanics like higher experience from elite mobs which made dungeon cleave leveling way more powerful versus old vanilla and pserver guides saying dungeons are worth only if you do it once or twice for all the quests in general. Plus somewhat odd itemization/phase split of things. Old Vanilla players expected old harsh world, pserver players expected harsh pserver tight old world and everyone got something easier (even if actually vanilla accurate it wasn’t what people expected/ā€œwantedā€).

And also we have Blizzard/Warcraft general burn-out. People that came from retail or play both got burned out by general state of things. Plus those that are esport players and participate in tournaments - those are only in retail. Actual World First race is also in retail. Many millions watched Method and Limit streams, many returned for 8.3 or are keeping their fingers that yet another time ā€œnext expansion will be betterā€.

But to finish on a positive note - people are still playing the game, even streaming. Some can’t wait BWL or don’t really care what phase it is (aside of complaining for some reason that Blizzard is rushing it) as they play a different game withing the world of Classic.

Streamers are there for revenue - at launch Classic has some hype to draw them in - but there is nothing to hold a wider interest

No tournaments - no pushing keys etc.

They have just moved with the advertising revenue

I don’t know much about streamers but I do know they will tend to chase popular and new trends. The game’s been out for 6 months now, not surprising that it has lost stream appeal. This game isn’t a ā€œlive serviceā€ with new events etc like Fortnite, Hearthstone etc. and there’s no tournaments to keep outsiders interested like Counter-Strike or many dozens of other games.

WOW has never been a streamers game and its initial breakout on Twitch was impressive/surprising, but not surprising that it’s no longer at that status.

Game being trash is what happened… didn’t generate enough views for them after hype train is out is what happened. MMORPG are worst games to stream for countless reasons is what happened (i.e. boring for outsiders to watch/understand, easier to stream snipe, MMORPG require tons of time investment from players of which most would rather spend playing the game rather than watching etc…)

Classic is an awful game to stream.

the imbalance in the pvp alliance vs horde is a major influencer in the retention of players, its a different age now, pvp is boring when one side is consistently winning. Im personally thinking of unsubscribing due to the fact I know its an instant loose when ever I feel like doing a battleground vs Russians. I think to group Europeans who dont communicate across a common language with a group of players who have a common language is something that needs to be fixed

They had fun, they moved on :]
Vanilla was popular because it was new type of game and there was not any other / better alternative.

Nowadays, most of game mechanics are inferior in every aspect. One aspect that stands out is leveling phase, its actually still enjoyable after all these years. End-game is swarmed with min maxers with ,edge-lord best comp setup, enjoing owning the rest. And i am getting feelings that the , rest , is slowly decaying. I m currently exping alts, waiting, if my friends show up for blw. If they dont i actually retire myself, returning time to time, to get some old vibe, enjoying the world while exping.

You think you do, but you don’t happened…

I think we still do, but ActiBlizz happened. If I wanted to destroy Classic I couldn’t have done a better job than the decisions they’ve been making. Layers, AV, server transfers…it’s almost been designed to chase away subscriptions.
