So forgive my ignorance but what the hell are the motivations for alliance this expac? I mean, yeah sure Sylvanas is bad Hur Hur, let’s help put an oversized hamburger container as the Horde’s leader or something. That it?
blizzard is just being lazy and the story at bfa is just there to cash in on another exspansion, just look at it like its wod 2.0.
or you can see bfa as a prepatch to next exspansion.
Honestly? No idea. This is coming from a player who does not read much additional background stories and get’s information about lore mainly from game itself. We are uh… trying to stop war or something? Expand our holiday destinations to Kul Tiran islands? Not quite sure, just following the croud.
On serious side this expansion feels really strange on storyside when playing game, it is almost like playing different game on horde side with having choices and all interesting developements. I wonder if Blizzard even realizes how big the difference is.
To stop Sylvanas from whatever she is doing and at the same time free the Horde from an evil dictator. I wish I was joking but I am not.
It’s literally Mists of Pandaria 2.0, but this time around we also tie up all loose ends while we are at it for example the whole “Dalaran purge” thing in the upcoming patch, Taurajo, and everything else.
If this is the reason why all the selfie for travel brochures quests?
I don’t really know what’s going on, it felt weird from the start. They burn Teldrassil but then we hunt down a san’layn dude which came out of nowhere. We then somehow end up in Uldir with not really any explanation as to why.
We then spent time making a gorilla very big and attack Dazar’alor. Haven’t bothered doing the rest yet, says it all I think
Well Anduin initially wanted to help out Mr. Crystal. However the Goblin Excavations in Silithus sort of made him shift focus to figure out the hordes / Gallywix intentions.
Then the war of thorns happened and now Anduin are struggling to hold a alliance togheter. Tyrande and Genn went Sylvanas rampage mode, while Anduin just want to stop Sylvanas due to her actions being without any honor. Anduin fight for peace in his own clueless way.
Then we got the issues with the Zandalari fleet which started the Jaina homecoming ball in the Kul Tiran dungeons(Guess the palace was fully booked) but after a Razzia from the Ashvane Personal Police force this party had to switch locations to the blighted lands. In the Blighted Lands Jainas mom came with cookies and milk, but noticed alot of guys in there… determined to save Jaina, Katherine shooed the naught boys away from the party. When Jaina and Katherine returned home, Jaina gave her brother a call and they instead locked the Ashvane away.
We the players however went to Uldir because Brann was curious.
During all this Mathias Shaw got tierd of looking sexy and flirting with everyone who just happened to look at him. Togheter with Alleria he came up with a plan to take out the Zandalari fleet and break their ties to the horde. So In proper secret agent styled fashion we dive around planting bombs on ships, while Mekkatorque make a detonator with precisely calibrated distance metrics… making it’s range further or sneaking the detonator in trought the unguarded backdoor was not part of the plan.
We also go steal the Abyssal scepter, togheter with super hacker Umbric, our trusted Sidekicks Flynn and Shaw. Even if we made a lot of noise and even got chased by the pretty coin golem we managed to get away pretty much unscathed without further guards or reinforcements intercepting us, guess that’s the issues with slow elevators in a huge pyramid.
However we needed something extra to make this assualt work in our favor so while Mekkatorque desperately try to measure out the distance for dramatic effect. We are sent to a pair of gnomes just outside Zandalar who have come up with a brilliant idea togheter with Gronk from the Gorillas(unfortunately not the band). So we set out to turn Grong into King Kong, using a device which consumes intelligence to increase size and strenght… basicly a steroid gun.
Then we was finally ready to go attack Zandalar. So first we had to go kill alot of blood trolls and make it look like we had a huge force waiting on the shores of Nazmir hidden amongst the fog made from the Abyssal Scepter we stole from the horde earlier. In truth however it was just diversion force of Naked Nightelves lead by proud Telaamon.
8 days later . . .
Horde finally reacts to our diversion and Jaina takes a few ships to Zandalar. Mekkatorque was successfull in calibrating the perfect distance for dramatic effect and even could afford a stunt man to explode for him. It all went perfectly… We hack and Slash our way trought some Horde no names untill Rastakhan gets tierd of us and calls for Bwonsamdi for help… So instead we cut trought some undead trolls with no names.
A faceless gorilla, a penny golem and a ton of more trolls later we end up face to face with King Rastakhan who refuses to surrender. After being a very though opponent he calls for Bwonsamdi again who tries some parlor tricks with no avail. In the end Rastakhan dies while Jaina look all proud of her achivement to delay the horde forces by tossing snow at them.
We flee to the ship, using some gryphons that we conveniently snuck in trought the front(Which we for some reason could not use to skip straight to king Rastakhan) where we finally get to hear what happened after. Mekkatorque had a shuttle failure and Jaina created her own glacier to try and stop the horde.
Anduin concludes it all that we might win within some weeks even if it’s not honorable to do so. Then he barges off to introduce the Corpse Bride to Jaina.
Then we similar to horde find Xal’atath do some tbh. really evil and not at all devious actions. After that Brother Pike send us to to kill the U-guy in the crucible… Alliance conveniently notice that Sylvanas have the dagger, by inspecting the ground where it used to be. When we tell Anduin he tells us how unfortunate it is that we could not have peace even if he whould never been able to be a friend to Sylvanas…
Sure we have our reasons… The alliance campaign right now are alot of waiting for what happends within the horde. We are basicly more reactive then proactive, which lead to slightly boring story.
Nice sum up. (=
I did my alliance story line few days ago in one gulp, to unlock Kul Tiran humans. It’s not awful but it’s not feels as whole as Horde one. Some things, like build single ship with a lot of trouble on the way to cement our alliance with Fat Humans feels far-fetched while helping princess Talanji inauguration felt quite realistic a and not out of place.
Also Drustwar and Stormsong story lines feels copypasted: authority fell under influence of Ancient Evil ™ we gradually figure it out and confront those corrupted leaders at which point one of our unsignificant helpers gets bespelled and turns int a Horrible Monstrosity which we forced to put out of its misery before proceed killing said leaders. Then Ancient Evil ™, as per tradition, tells us the this is just a beginning.
I remember seeing a remake on Reddit of the BfA poster/picture that is Sylvanas facing off against Anduin, and they’d stuck Saurfang and Baine on Anduin’s side.
Is pretty much how it feels for me
If I find it again I’ll edit and add.
So much this. It’s just so stupid and infantile though.
Factions A and B are at war. For ever it seems. Some people in B dislike the leader in B so they go to A???
If I was A I’d happily help whichever option made B WEAKER.
I mean no, A is of course going to help B become stronger, because those body bags are great, want more of them.
Gear, getting achieves and having toon at 120 for 9.0, same motivations as always.
For me the issue is that the Alliance always seems to be the side show to a Horde performance. If you want to make the Alliance the good guys than that is great but at least know how to write interesting and engaging stories for it. Yes I admit writing for the generic good guy is so much harder than writing for the darker, greyer and sometimes outright evil guy.
Remember not only do the Horde get multiple choice options in a few of their quests but they also got a full on 6 minute movie quality expansion explaining their situation. What did the Alliance get?
The point is that it is clear that Blizz are more comfortable writing for the Horde than they are for the Alliance. Which for me isn’t good!!!
just want peace mateeeeeeee peaceeee
Just want to sit in inn with spacegoats and have fun smh
If I remember correctly after Legion and between the time BFA launched we had the cinematics and those questst hat introduced us to the new Dark Shore. The goal of the alliance then was to stop the horde from mining azerite as apparently we thought it would give the horde an advantage, despite the alliance not sure what azerite could or could not do.
Somehow that seems to have gone to the wayside and the next alliance motivation was to go after the horde for what happened in Teladrassil, which the horde destroyed Undercity.
The the story shifted and the alliance motivation was to stop the Zandalari and horde from becoming too cosy and allies, which looks as if we failed.
Now I guess our motivation is to restore a proper warchief to the horde and take on Azshara.
Yep the Alliance story really doesn’t make much sense. ‘Before the Storm’ was clear and understanding. Sylvanas wanted Azerite and war and as a response the Alliance went toe to toe with her. From this point on and with the exception of some good Jaina story the Alliance story just becomes a mess making very little sense.
Blizzard know how to write for the Horde but dont have a clue when it comes to the Alliance.
I agree the last great epic Alliance story in my opinion was WOTLK.
I hated the Legion story for Alliance because we lost Varian and I think if he was still alive things would be much different for the Alliance.
There are parts of the horde story that do not make sense currently either, such as we still have not seen what Sylvannas plan for azerite is, if anything. Plus there are naga now all over the BFA zones and neither side seem to be doing anything about it.
alliance are here for
- give horde free hks
2)give horde a pseudo competitor in playerbase terms (mythic race, pvp etc lol)
3)give horde free hks
4)be chaperones to the horde story that drives wow because horde=developerfaction=bestracialsfor10years=faction imbalanced to an unfixable level
So when the war is over, war veterans know where to go for holiday
At least the Alliance players have a better motivation than the Horde so far. We fight because…erm…we feel like it?
