[Alliance] The Arcanist Forum 🧙‍♂️ July 5th

Melvin Clutterbuck invites the magi, from apprentice to high sorcerer, to The Arcanist Forum; a place to discuss magic, theory, and practice with fellow mages. There’s a promise of lively debates, sparkling insights, and maybe even a few impromptu spell demonstrations. Hopefully without too many accidents!

According to some rumours though, this is just Melvin’s excuse to escape his very full house. With six children and seventeen grandchildren all living in Stormwind, and constantly underfoot, a bit of magical discussion sounds much more peaceful than another evening of settling family squabbles and cleaning up potion spills.

Will you help the old wizard get a break? Whether you come for the topics, or the socializing, the forum is the perfect place to share ideas and meet other arcane spellweavers.

Hey! Since the previous event was well received, let’s bring it back for another round!

Date: Saturday 5th July
Time: 20:00 Server Time - drinks stall at 19:30 for the early birds!
Location: OOC at A Hero’s Welcome inn (Broken Isles Dalaran), IC a building in Stormwind
Faction: Alliance
Note: Mage-only event

The forum gives mages a platform for discussing magic-related topics in-character, with focus on small group debates and one-on-one conversations. To help people make contacts, the event will follow a speed-dating style format: your character will have about 20 minutes to discuss a magic-related topic with another attendee before rotating to a new partner or group, with a new topic, when time’s up.

:grey_exclamation:Based on feedback, I’ve added extra 5 minutes to the discussion time per round. People can now also submit topic proposals via this Google form!

If you’d like to attend, please participate with a character that is an arcane spellcaster first and foremost in-character. The purpose of the event is to help mages connect with each other on the Alliance side. Mages who are neutral but individually in good terms with Stormwind (such as some members of the Kirin Tor) are welcome to join. The host is a member of Stormwind’s Academy of Arcane Arts and Sciences.

I recommend having the Listener AddOn to easily keep track of the chat messages of your discussion partners in case there are many attendees. I’ll also play background audio via the new Shortwave Audio Player AddOn to test its latest version for event purposes, entirely optional if you wish to get it however.

Everyone’s Favourite Dwarven Magus will once again be attending, hopefully to everyone’s delight! ( and yes, the self delusion is real with this one )

I wish warlocks could gather like this without setting in motion the next Legion invasion. Ah well, such is the price of power. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Sounds like a fun event! I hope it’ll be a blast!

A demonology book club sounds so much fun though, hopefully we’ll see it happen sometime! :smiling_imp: :green_book:

This is next Saturday - please submit a topic idea or two if inspiration bites you!

Torianis has offered to be at the venue 19:45 ST already with a drink stall to loosen people’s tongues with a beverage or two. Will hopefully help the attendees mingle a little before the discussions begin! :wine_glass: :milk_glass:

Unretired my mage so I could go to this.

I will have to check but I think all my mages are either horde or went off the deep end and wouldn’t be considered polite company,

I got an evoker who is all about magic though, but evokers aren’t mages.

Thank you for hosting the event, Acrona! It was fun as always!

And that controversial topic sure generated a lot of debate!

Melvin Clutterbuck welcomed the attendees to the second forum. The wizard’s family woes chased him early on, and in a flash, Melvin was an elekk plushie hiding in the arms of the draenei Yenar.

The magi quickly settled the matter with the wizard’s young grandson, who bolted into the courtyard in sleepwear and a large jester mask bizarrely spell-stuck to his face. His sister’s doing, they found out, after the boy’s shapeshifting prank on her.

For the first few topics, people were split into pairs for one-on-one discussions, shuffling to a new person each round. The first topic was about how constantly manipulating arcane magic may either accelerate or slow down a mage’s aging; had the attendees experienced such phenomenon themselves, and why does it occur one way or the other?

The second topic thrust people into the bloody Purge of Dalaran. Did the attendees think Jaina Proudmoore was in the right sparking the civil war, or whether it could’ve been and should’ve been avoided? The subject pulled stiffened postures and heavier faces around the garden, followed by differing secondhand opinions and firsthand experiences.

Right as the third round of table-switching began, another of Melvin’s family members appeared in search of the wizard, who swiftly disguised himself as a murloc - too slippery to be easily spotted under the tables. The crowd dealt with the summons to an unexpected family reunion dinner.

The third topic was about the most surprising ways of utilizing teleportation magic that the attendees had witnessed.

To shake things up, the last two topics were discussed in table groups.

Arcane magic isn’t just for blasting fireballs. It’s also used for manipulating time and environment, bringing constructs to life - and even influencing other forms of magic. The fourth topic was whether arcane magic could have intelligence of its own.

And finally;
Is it morally ethical in any circumstance to polymorph a tauren into a cow or bull?

See you at the next forum!

Thanks for an interesting evening and meeting even more interesting characters.
I got a bit rusty at RP, but it was fun.
