[A-Event] The Arcanist Forum 🧙‍♀️

The Arcanist Forum

Date: Saturday 19th April
Time: 20:00 ST
Location: OOC Hall of the Guardian (mage Order Hall), IC a space accessible from the Wizard’s Sanctum (mage tower) in Stormwind.
Faction: Alliance

Mage trainer Melvin Clutterbuck invites the magi, from apprentice to high sorcerer, to The Arcanist Forum, a place to discuss magic, theory, and practice with fellow mages. There’s a promise of lively debates, sparkling insights, and maybe even a few impromptu spell demonstrations. Hopefully without too many accidents!

According to some rumours though, this might just be Melvin’s excuse to escape his very full house. With six children and seventeen grandchildren all living in Stormwind, and constantly underfoot, a bit of magical discussion sounds much more peaceful than another evening of settling family squabbles and cleaning up potion spills.

Will you help the old man get a break? Whether you come for the magic, the socializing, or just to see what all the fuss is about, the forum is the perfect place to share ideas and meet other spellweavers.

Hello!

I’ve been craving more mage-focused roleplay lately, and a recent discussion gave me the idea for an Arcanist Forum; a gathering where mages can discuss arcane topics in-character, with focus on small group debates and one-on-one conversations. To make it easier for attendees to get acquaintanced, the event will follow a speed-dating style format: participants will have about 15 minutes to discuss a magic-related topic with another attendee before rotating to a new partner, with a new topic, when time is up. The topics will be provided by the host. This should help everyone establish new contacts and chat with multiple people, even if they arrive knowing no one.

Since I don’t see Acrona organizing something like this, I’ll be attending as her to make IC connections, but use a made-up alt to coordinate the event.

For now, this will be an Alliance-only event to keep things more manageable. Characters that are neutral in-character such as members of the Kirin Tor are welcome provided they can enter the venue through Stormwind, but OOC let’s keep it to the Alliance faction for now. I appreciate your understanding! As for the future, I’m not sure yet if this will become a recurring event - let’s first see how people enjoy the forum and whether they (and myself) find this approach helpful for making connections.

The Listener AddOn is recommended, to help you keep track of the other players’ messages.

Sounds great! Will see if I can attend! Been aiming to use the Hall of the Guardian more often!

Hmpf. Alot of lesser races assembling to ramble about things they are not born into?

Surely, Mori will try to be there, reminding everyone all they know comes from his kin! And he and others like him(and Acrona :smirk: ) have lost more in the Arcana then the can even try to remeber!

(I’ll try to be there!)

I see how it is. We will make our own magi meeting then, with blackjack and hookers!

Jokes aside, this looks like a wonderful initiative, best of luck!

I guess we’ll have to counter by having poker and roulette! :triumph:

I’m not completely ruling out the idea of expanding the audience in the future, depending on how things go. However, since I’d like to focus more on Acrona than on organizing the show on the alt, and given the limited seating space, I’d prefer to keep the event from becoming too crowded. I appreciate your understanding!

Having enjoyed yapping a lot in that other thread with my fellow magefolk, this seems like a golden opportunity to do so IC as well! I appreciate the effort to rope something together.

And having it not be related to Dalaran (alas, alas…) gives my character an actual reason to attend!

Oh hell yeah, I’ll be there. A long IC chat with a mage who actually knows what they’re doing has been needed for a while!

This sounds intriguing, will make sure to attend unless things come cross IRL.

Thanks for organising it.

Looks like we might be plenty people even just among the Alliance! :eyes:

In case we run out of seats for the 1:1 convos, consider bringing your own to put up around the hall:

  1. Arathi Book Collection - infinite duration, 30 second cooldown - very wizardly!

  1. S.E.A.T. - 5 min duration / cooldown

  1. Leather Love Seat - 5 min duration / cooldown

Edit: The Listener AddOn is also recommended, to help you keep track of the other players’ messages.

Looking forward to next week!

This is tomorrow! Magic related questions for the 1:1 speed conversations are prepared, and Melvin will initially help splitting people into pairs. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

OOC we gather at the mage Order Hall, IC in Stormwind’s mage tower.

A tad late, but please remember that to enter the Mage Order, you need to have done enough of the Legion Mage Campaign questline to unlock it! Mages will get a teleport ability to reach it.

And if you cannot get the quest prompt to begin the Legion Order Hall questline, that means your character is in the TWW starting phase which will not trigger the Order Hall starting quest.

To get around this, you must complete the Khaz Algar intro (this can be skipped now) to the point Brann asks you to pick a zone to level in. This will reset Dalaran back to its Legion state, allowing you to commence!
