Why doesn’t everyone just learn French?

I recently toyed with the idea of trying to play on a German or French realm and see how it goes. I have extremely basic knowledge of both languages so it would be a true roleplaying adventure.
This may be true close to the French border ofc. But, being German, I wouldn’t go so far as to use “fluency” to describe the overall situation.
Well, It has /had nothing to do with the french border per se… the Abitur requires (or at least used to require, as mine was 30 years ago) two foreign languages. As a US citizen that came to germany when I was 15, I went through hell because I both had to learn German, and simultaneously learn french being taught in german, and had 3 years to do it
And french + English was by far the most common combination , to the point where teh vast majority of schools did not even offer a third choice, and most that did offered either spanish or latin.
But I do agree that just because tehy had to learn it it school doesn´t mean they can (still) speak it, and just like everything else it deteriortates over time… FOr ex my wife took “Hauswirtschaftskunde” (Home economics), while i went to a technichal Highschool, and yet there is a very good reason that I still do most of the cooking that doesn´t involve a microwave or toaster… and I´m still not sure I trust her with the toaster 
It’s too hard. I’v studied it for 3 years at (elementary?) school and remember almost nothing of it.
Italian is very easy, on the other hand.
PS. Maybe they should bring back Esperanto…
Because, like it or not, English, or rather, American English is the lingua franca of the modern world, largely due to the American Empire winning the cold war and becoming a de-facto world hegemon, much like Rome did with spreading Latin, which we in part use to this day.
On that note, back in the olden days of 2005, I was “forced” to learn English in no small part to play WoW and communicate with my guild during raids. This evolved over time into me getting the C2 exam in EU framework and a translator’s certification, which literally to this day feeds my family. So my advice to all the RU players is: Get over yourself and play English client on English server. And play with English people in English guilds. Your future self will thank you for it.

I support the request! This is not about a complete translation or adding new languages. It is stupid to have a ready-made translation and a database of texts in Cyrillic accumulated over 20 years and not use it, even for a small number (compared to other groups) of players.
As a last resort, you can make a cross-server with an isolated RU server, it will be at least something rather than nothing.

Well, when I hover over a e. g. french link in the chat I can read this in the language of my (english) client.

Your memory does not stretch far enough back young one. In the beginning we had only European servers, all languages spoken. It was frowned upon to use other languages in General, but we all played there, Russian realms were not an option until 2008
There were german realms in 2005

English is the international language. The realms were labled as English until they scrapped the non russian realms. They are probably still labled correctly on retail.
Sadly I’m not racist towards G*rmans and F*ench as they claim to be part of the same race as me and for reference I have no issues with g*rmans or f*ench that do speak English, like I do, despite none of us having it as our native tongue.

This is definitely not the case as the above quote of this guy Bennyxxx answer to me shows precisely. Just the fact that I don’t want to get a ban for inappropriate language I keep to myself what kind of a person at least to me this guy is. Who tf has brought you up and in which place other than the one (of you) mentioned?

Why would you need to use inappropriate language to communicate? Do you suffer from being german or do you have a different impairment?

Apparently not everyone understands what the idea of the post is.
The request is for the player to be able to interact with the game (game client) in an accessible language that has a ready-made translation in this game.
There is no discussion here about the interaction of players with players.
There is no need to transfer the issue of simple user interaction with the game to an international level.
Whether you like it or not, there are already a large number of Russian speakers on the servers, they have access to the server.
