So there is this player on my realm who is Rank 13 and he’s botting his way to Rank 14 I know this because I have seen him in BG’s multiple times, everyone in the BG agrees he’s a bot, he moves like a bot sharply turning, he dies repeatedly more than anyone else in the BG, he doesn’t use his energy when he’s a rogue, he simply auto attacks, he doesn’t respond to whispers when he’s botting. I messaged this person at another time outside of the BG and he replied with “Ur moms a bot” so clearly there is a person behind the account he just bots when in BG’s.
I don’t understand why this person isn’t banned? what good does it do the game to have someone botting their way up the PVP ranks halfway through rank 13. It devalues everyone elses effort to PVP and makes a joke of the game.
I have been trying to get this person banned for a while now, is it against the rules to tell other people to report this guy? because I have been telling others to report him as being a bot in attempt to get him banned, all the high pvpers report him, these people who point him out as being a bot in bg’s report him also. Why isn’t this guy banned yet?
This report system isn’t fit for purpose, Blizzard should either do their job or at least give the players the tools to police this type of behavior and we will do the job for you.

As far as I know they have no real humans for banning bots, only their automated system (bot) that autobans when somebody gets mass-reported. So a bot to ban bots.
Don’t think it’s against the rules to tell other players to report him though.
Every time I go herbing in felwood I come across the same UD mage since october 2019 (when I first reported him). 1,5 Years later he’s still going strong. I report him whenever I see him but i’m guessing there’s not enough reports to trigger their automated system.

Well it has me questioning if automated banning is even a thing since this guy I mentioned is being mass reported on a daily basis by people in the BG’s which he is ruining, by people who are ranking on my realm also, i’m now asking everyone I see to report him but he’s still there.
I thought I should ask just in case there is some rule about telling others to report someone for cheating.
Did you ever think that it might be a player not a bot? That Blizzard have investigated him and have no proof?
Trust me I know it’s a bot, especially after all this time.
I’ve noticed (by multiple examples) that it’s rarely enough to just report the bot if people reporting are IT’s faction only. This was probably Blizzard’s way to mitigate possible abuses when in some instances a simple /g chat plea would result in multiple reports and thus abusing the system.
That said, when bots get reported by both faction players, automatization kicks in quite fast and bots get actually banned fast. So, if your server discord has a bot section, I’d really advise you to elaborate the problem there and ask people from other faction to do so targeting / reporting and the bot will be gone very soon and you get a tasty letter in your mailbox from Blizz thanking you.
Iv been reporting 3 bots in Azshara for… well, over a month now, every day multiple times. I am over there farming runes. Still no ban. Blizzard does not care, nothing will change, might as well leave the bots alone. They are only interested in money, not improving the quality of the game.
Guess we’ll have to join them if we can’t beat them.
Doubt it, I don’t think there is an automated system. I don’t think any bots are getting banned in classic.
It’s like a placebo effect, give people this report option that does absolutely nothing.
The bans happens in waves as i recall.
That’s easy to say, when you don’t have to explain to your superiors why your customer service just got a complaint from someone who was banned by the automated system for no reason.
These are live servers, and the people playing on them are paying customers. Blizzard cannot just “trust” and hipshot-ban people like PServer admins do. Even if they would be accurate 95% of the time, the 5% of false positives are enough bad press (= negative advertising) to wipe out any gains made by coming down hard on botters.
I have played games where bots weren’t banned at all, and trust me when I tell you: WoW isn’t one of them.
You say that, but that’s exactly what Blizzard do in their other games such as Overwatch. Takes the reporting to the opposite end, where false banns are constantly happening from mass reporting by players. I was banned in that over 15 times on multiple accounts for one tricking, which isn’t against tos of that game. My opinion was that Blizzard allowed this false banning to continue in Overwatch because players would simply buy the game again and have multiple accounts on the game. Opposite happens in WOW but the thing is they follow the money, it’s not financially sound to ban the bots.
I quit Overwatch for this reason and also because they reworked some of the original legends in the game… i’ll likely end up quitting this game also at some point because Private Servers at least police this type of behavior and I don’t have to pay them to do it.

Well I’ve been wrongly banned before from official games, believe it or not, it’s not the point.
I know this one guy for a fact, the one I’ve been seeing since 1.5 years ago is 100% no questions asked a bot.
I kill him 5 times a day, never seen him in a guild, never seen him do anything remotely close to human being activity. I don’t just charge and nuke him, I play with him, I’ve played with him for months, I know what i’m talking about. This guy is a bot, and is not getting banned like the majority.
ps any veteran gamer should easily be able to spot a bot…
Look, I am not saying that you couldn’t spot a bot. I do that myself, after all, the reason why I click “report” when I see a bot, is precisely because I’m confident that I am able to determine whether or not someone is a bot.
All I’m saying is, that you and me are in a, well, more comfortable position than Blizzard. We don’t have to justify our reports, we don’t have to explain our decisions regarding them to superiors, and we don’t have to make a call to kick a paying customer out of the service he’s been paying for, and carry the risk of the decision being wrong.
Or you ban them, await their ban appeal (if they are legit one will follow right? if not, good riddance), see if your actions were correct and worst case scenario give them 3 extra days of playtime and an automated apology mail.
Or you just ignore it and let the bots roam free for years.
edit: the guy i’m talking about it, even if by the small 0.00001% chance he is a human being, is up to no good anyway if you spend 24/7 herbing and mining in questionable gear (less than 3k hp pool on a 60 after 1.5 years). Probably sells his gold. I mean definitely sells his gold, and probably bots for it. Maybe babysits his bot sometimes to avoid detection. More can be done, and to me it feels like nothing is being done atm.
The report option is like the “Submit a suggestion” in the help request… it’s to make stupid people feel like their voiced concerns are being listened to by someone at Blizzard.
Just wanted to bump, the bot problem is real, i’ve reported several each day but its not making a dent.
Also, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZwABWZ_MfU
Imo TBC should not be announced before this problem is fixed, they are in every zone around the clock and can be easilly identified, just 1 GM per realm could do wonders, of course it would only be a short-term solution, but it would give us motivation to not give up before TBC and manage untill the problem is actually fixed.

This. It is so easy to know if someone bots or not. There is so MANY indications of knowing if someone bots.
PVP: People only move upon GY ress once someone else near them moves and then they take their route. They always instantly dismount and attack you the same time you STEALTH through them eventho they did not even see you coming but the second you are in their range.
They always have full boe equipped.
They always run into enemies on autofollow.
Some of them use mouseover pathing and targetting making them never actually have a target but still attacking or interacting.
They always do around 800-970k honor a week botting.
They being stuck in a wall causes them to jump frequently into it for 2-3 times in a fast row.
Thats just for PvP bots. i could list so much more for PvE bots but thats not the topic here. People who asked “maybe it was a player?” are out of their mind.
Agree. I just quit over the issue (again). It’s so depressing being in the world and only seeing bots and those bots not getting banned months or years after you report them.
