The issue is that some specs get too much haste from talents, or have off-global spells. The APM in this game for patchwerk fights ranges fron around 40 (evoker) to around 80 on average, but you have periods, where it can be way higher. In some situations we gotta press probably almost 2 buttons per second to play optimal. Edit: Overall though the APM in WoW is way way higher as you can see in the discussion below.
When I keep up with every global and have decent logs or very high dps, my entire arm and hand starts to hurt.
It’s the worst in dungeons, where the Priests decide to P.I. me and I already have a lot of haste from Frenzy as fury. This happens from playing on classes that get haste from talents like Fury, outlaw, havoc DH, etc. In some cases I probably have to do around ~1.5 dps-button presses per second for 35 minutes straight in M+ with around 30-40 keybinds without movement, etc…
Over time I think it’s too much, and it makes the game inaccessible for humans, who care about their long term joint health.
Yeah this is baseline on average without movement. If you include movement, Lust, P.I., camera adjustments, etc . it can be too much to a point, where I think I get joint inflammation on fury, because I already get a lot of haste from Frenzy.
I think we can all agree that pressing like 1.5 buttons per second is too much for 40 minutes
Tanks are busy, as they require to gather and look for a lot of information. It is a spec that requires more decision making.
They should get a change to have an easier rotation because of that.
I prefered tank rotations, especially warrior, before they nerfed CGD.
Top dps in leveling dungeons in AoE battles, easier to gather mobs and maintaining aggro while on the move. Ilevel was a non-issue.
Yeah I think as a DPS I should or don’t wanna get an easier rotation, but the speed of pressing buttons is way too high, if I play close to optimally, i.e. 90-95 dps log in some random pug. Like last time I played and tried to go for good damage, I legit had pain in elbow, hand joint, and finger tips. I’m not sure for whom exactly they made it so fast. I’d say I’m very advanced as a player already. I feel like people, who like this, are a very tiny fraction of players, because I’m a very physically healthy young adult.
Having a range of types of playstyle is not a bad thing. Some players will have fast music playing as they drink their 5th Red Bull and be happily spamming 6 keys a second. Some players will be sipping a cup of tea and merrily playing at a chilled 1 button per second listening to Mozart.
Horses for courses.
If you’re not enjoying playing a spec with a high APM try a different one.
I’m not sure if we are allowed to record apm in wow, but I think with camera/mouse movement, char movement, etc. it’s aso very fast. Keep in mind 60-80 is standing still on a target dummy. In starcraft mouse clicks count too afaik, and mouseclicks are way faster in general. Your comparison is logically non-sense and you don’t understand anything about this topic I think Btw, extremely competitive starcraft players average 300 apm. If you average 250 that means you must be almost a pro
I think i do. I use hand 1 for movement and hand 2 for actions. And my actionshand wants to spam way faster than the gcd allows me to.
diamond. and the game isn’t only about apm. It is a strategy game.
Actions per minute in WoW are basically about macro’s. Like frost dk you just macro empowered rune weapon into pillar of frost into raise dead and a trinket. And then you press rime or killing machine. Meaning you just used 5 actions at the same time by pressing 2 buttons tops. and then you are just GCD locked.
APM isn’t necessarily buttons per minute. Outlaw rogue has higher APM on this chart than actual buttons because you can macro several abilities, which technically counts as more than 1 action, while still being a single button press.
Example:
Adrenaline Rush and then Roll the Bones
Cold Blood and then whatever dps ability
Bomb dispenser macroed into abilities
Outlaw rogue is at 1.0s gcd, or 0.8s on adrenaline rush on a bunch of abilities, while havoc frequently goes to lowest possible gcd due to high amounts of haste. I’d be more interested in an actual “buttons pressed per minute” metric.
Other things that add to APM in wow are offglobal defensives (e.g. health potions, frenzied regen, etc.), tab targetting, moving camera with ur mouse, strafing, potentially toggling autowalk briefly, moving ur mouse to use skill shots on fire mage for example, mouseover on targets to kick, setting a focus target, pinging, marking mobs, etc. It’s a lot that comes along the 75 apm on a patchwerk sim…
Additionally, the APM in wow is more intensive compared to other games, because it stems from a variety of key presses, and not spam clicking with ur mouse
Overall it’s way too much, and I think the dps rotation should be a bit slower
I mean in starcraft u can just spamclick with ur mouse and have high apm tbh. It’s not rly comparable to wow. I think wow is one of the fastest paced games I know, and it’s not a good thing…
I have played various classes with differing specs from Fury warrior to destro warlock.
I really enjoyed fury, it feels right that a fast and furious spec should feel just that way.
If you slow it down to warlock levels it would just feel bad. They would have to rename the spec from “Fury” to “Moderately angry”
Also im going to tempt fate here and say that if playing a game is causing you physical pain then you should probably consult a GP and make a sensible decision on if you should continue to play.
I dont think i agree that the game should be slowed down to cater for people who are physically unable to play, with the exception of the obvious accessibility options that the game has.
