I mean seriously. Who’s ever bothering to do all of that grind on their alts?
At the moment it’s a chore enough for the main.
Also, it mostly rewards account-bound collectible items.
If it worked account-wide we would no longer have that annoying empty room on the profession journal of all characters… and yet, we could pick up more fragments while leveling the alts.
[In fact, all three side professions cooking, fishing and archaeology could be account wide as a QOL feature]
Else as an alternative they could at least let us collect all the archaelology fragments in our bags like the mats from the primary professions instead of loading directly to the journal so that they can be traded or mailed to the main.
Sounds to me like a low effort change that may spice things up a little bit for a starter also making the profession viable for alts ‘on the go’.
If you agree, please consider sending a suggestion ticket to Blizzard through the in-game system. The more the better chances!

Archeology items are account bound so yeah, i don’t see any point why it should be account wide to be honest, you can get Staff or Sword on 1 character and mail it to alt with no problem, mount will be account wide too.
No one, because with BoE items you don’t need it on more than 1 character.

Which is why I’d rather have it account-wide. That way we would no longer have that annoying display asking for us to train it on all characters… and yet, we could pick up more fragments while leveling the alts. Win-win.
To be honest, i don’t know what are you talking about… I don’t see anywhere that my archeology is untrained or something…
Can’t take a screenshot now, but you really just need to open your spell journal or profession tab.
His talking about learning the profession
… Which is as annoying as getting any other profession on your alt
???
Can’t you just train archeology and leave it at level 1 just to avoid that flashy button if it bothers you?
Why should I do that on 15 out of 16 alts, and why should millions of players do the same, all the time, leaving it there, empty?
If it’s something that everyone only does on the main and never touches again, then it should simply be account wide. I won’t die of a flashy icon… but it feels pretty silly for it to be there.
Blizzard removed first aid because a 95% of their player base ignored it.
If 99% of their players only train archaeology on one toon, logic would appear to dictate that it should actually be account bound.
Simple quality of life feature.
But now I am actually very curious to know in what way you think it would damage your own gameplay if such a qol feature was implemented.
As in, is there a proper reason why you do not want this, or are you simply against a possible improvement because you feel it can be worked around and you don’t care?
But if you don’t care… why bother answering to the thread at all? I could fight and win my silly crusade and you wouldn’t even notice after all.

Kudos from me.
Might seem silly but if a person wants to change main, and want everything maxed out on their main, they would feel the pain…
I would rather remove arch and cooking as minor professions and set them to be main with a lot more progression and worthy recipes, while fishing would be addition to main gathering along with mining, herb and skinning.
I agree, it should be account wide. Not just because of having to learn it on every character but because it can feel really good to have something to work on with all your alts that benefits your whole account. It gives leveling alts some extra things to do that feel meaningful.

I remember seeing long threads on ‘make essences account wide’ and agreeing with a lot of what was said, it was a pain to grind this out on various alts. Others said that each character you play is individual and ‘should’ earn these things independently. Both sides had valid arguments
In the end essences were not given account wide, but there was the option to buy them (but only if you had maxed on at least one character).
So maybe something similar would be a good compromise? If you have a secondary profession maxed out on at least one character, you can buy this on others (currency used could actually be crates for archaeology).
The difference being, essences were a main patch feature and empowered the player character, while archaeology rewards account-wide collectibles.
If it became account wide we would just gain a chance to collect fragments while leveling alts, which we wouldn’t have collected otherwise.
There’s no actual character power progression here, and nobody I know maintains secondary profession leveled on alts, whereas the primary are usually taken, even just gathering ones, so that the mats farmed could be sent to the main crafter or auctioned.
But the archaeology fragments collected by the player can’t be boxed and mailed… so nobody bothers to do archaeology on their leveling alts.
They can either make it account wide, or they can enable us to collect the fragments in our bags and trade them instead of loading directly to the journal. Now THAT may spice things up a little bit, also…

I had no probs lvling Archy.
Maxed it out on all 24 chars, easy as hell, plus I sold 23 Wicker Beast pets on AH xD
Im gonna do it all again in SL =)
Do it while you lvling and you get extra XP, dont see a problem at all =)
I do understand the difference, I was just using essences as a recent example. I guess what I was trying to say is that the maxed Archaelogy I have on my Druid, should not for me be made available on my hunter who didn’t do this, unless I am prepared to pay a price for skipping the process of levelling it.
Now that’s an accomplishment indeed.
I am unsure whether I should feel impressed and in awe or just run away scared…
But then again. There used to be a time when I would grind fishing on all my alts.
I quit, though. I swear! ^^

When does the notification pop-up? I haven’t had that happen in years on any alts I make.
I only have the annoying pvp-talent pop-up appear when a new pvp talents is available, I mean. Really I don’t need to know that, if I wanted that specific talents, I’d remember the level it would get unlocked on.
It’s not a pop up… but it annoys me to see it requires learning/training in the alts‘ professions tab.
Same as cooking and fishing really.
(IMHO all secondary professions should be account wide, really…)
Yes I know I am a special snowflake. But I am sure there’s more snow out there, even though it’s summer here now!
I’d just make all archaeology, fishing and cooking achievements account-wide.
