I use a couple of addons mainly elv ui and msbt to make my interface look better and mandatory ones like DBM, because i don’t really have a choice…
Today i saw a guy on Youtube doing a guide on how to set up some more advanced addons and i am legit shoked.
These addons are literal cheats and i can’t believe i was playing without them and that they are allowed. You have sh!t that tracks cooldows, interrupts, battle rezzez. WA’s that literally yell at you when someone fails an interrupt or you have PI on you. Ones that put everything on your plates and you can hide stuff you don’t need.
Coupled with macros that basically auto cast on someone you have not even selected and it goes on and on just how much you can automate the game…
I am amazed that this is allowed. In any other, these are called cheats, plain and simple. And when i think about how many people do NOT use theese addons and the insane disadvantage they have…It’s just so weird realizing it.
In a sense, every addon is “cheat” or at least do the work for you, leading to the notion:
There is no such thing as mandatory addon
If it would be it would be included in the game, don’t let others convince you otherwise!
Not to mention the dependence on addons make players… I wouldn’t say dumber, but some players wouldn’t move out an obvious if the addon not tells them, one could say, they dull the senses, makes you “lazy”
Yes
In the sense they give advantage over the ones who don’t use them could be considered cheat, but for some reason it is not
I think Blizzard simply fears if they would bann the addons, the large portion of WoW playerbase woul simply leave realizing how outdated the whole game is
Anything that assists in making anything content wise much easier is considered cheating, I would say DBM is definitely a cheat and most raid leaders will not let you into a raid unless you have this cheat enabled.
I will use them, obviously…They still cheats though. I mean it’s like saying you can be like other people and use them or handicap yourself like Eminem’s friend from 8mile…
No this looks like a race where Blizzard threw nails on the track, and some people just said “i don’t wanna get hurt while running” and bought protection.
But Blizzard could make it not-needed to use boots in the first place by not throwing things on the track.
There are some addons from way back that I would say were “cheats” - those that used some form of scripted logic to determine what spell/ability you needed to use and all you did was mash one key. Changes were made to the system to prevent that.
Blizzard have continued to make changes to the system to prevent other features that were abused in order to give people an unfair advantage.
Addons are nothing more that quality of life things and they do not (as far as I am aware) give anyone an unfair advantage or the ability to do anything that would otherwise not be possible. If this is not the case then those addons need to be reported to Blizzard so they can investigate and make changes to the system if necessary.
Yes…no…maybe but it’s to late for to address it for blizzard for years let even the most cheaty addons slide it would be pretty hypocrite of them to pull a SE now and ban them all or such
Blizz allows these addons via their API and therefore not a cheat at all, since the game maker knows about what the addon is doing and is happy with it. Because Blizz explicitly enabled the addon’s features. Cheating would be using some method that Blizz have overlooked and unintended to gain advantage. In which case, that part of the api would be switched off and unuseable by the addon.
Basically, but people probably think that just because they are okay with how Blizzard display infos than everyone must be okay with it.
I saw some people UIs that are super small sized, while i need some things to be either big or flashy or i just don’t notice. And Blizzard UIs or simple “in combat” infos are terrible.
