I’m not sure what your point is, but if you want to recruit a few extra mages or druids because you are worried that you may waste 2 minutes buffing the one time a year when your usual 3-5 mages/druids can’t attend at the same time, please do. Personally I would just go without them that one raid.
You do more dmg then all melees, depending on what patch we get, you will do more dmg then locks until t6 in sunwell rogues with Lego weapons will overcome your DPS. Hunter top the meter forever, followed by locks/mages(depending on patch and tier) then melees. But you bring food, intellect and portals.
Also decurse, spell steal, you can kite, root, bunch of mass aoe slows, polymorph on certain fights.
Actually we see that in speed running guilds nowadays. Most speedruns I do or watch have 20 fury warriors.
But the difference between a fury warrior and a shadow priest/ele shaman etc. isn’t 10%. There’s that reason.
Also: I don’t think speedrunning will be this common in TBC, because world buff stacking won’t be there and most guilds won’t just blast through content and compete on clear time only.
100% this! Because the whole min/max mentality & drum stacking etc the raid difficulty will be about the same as classic vanilla if we get patch 2.4.3. We Basically faceroll everything and have a ‘‘minor’’ struggle first weeks of Sunwell.
Arcane is going to be really awesome T5+, it’s quite a fun rotation. Current advised BIS TBC gear will also be different if it’s based on TBC PTR, old TBC 2007+ content. I mean if the boss fights are just as short as classic vanilla MQG will be bis for a long time. It will get changed to 330 haste which is about 21% cast speed for 20 seconds. This + Drums + Heroism/Bloodlust + haste gear is gonna be insane.
The only downfall of Arcane is your manapool so it all depends on how short the boss fights will be.
I definitely advice to play mage in TBC, mage has always been solid in every expansion.
Just play what you enjoy. As mentioned the meta boys and mega try hards said that raid compositions would be melee heavy in Classic but outside of perhaps the 1-2 try hard guilds per server that hasn’t been the case, they said Hunter is trash tier and would only be taken for pulling and tranq shot but I’ve been in numerous guilds that bring 3-4 hunters and they have done fine. Fact is many guilds know they won’t be competing for server firsts they just want to raid and clear the content each week and most are sensible enough to know you can do it without optimising the heck out of the game.
I hope the majority learn from what happened in Classic rather than just jumping on the try-hard train only to realise later on a lesson they was taught in Classic.
