Been stumbling onto quite a few players recently that don’t know comp names so I thought I’d just copy pasta the list from the US forums and touch it up a little with comps that are actually being played today and what they’re called as of patch 8.2.

In many cases I’ll just add the “class” for dps and “healer” instead of specs since the meta has changed so much over the years that the original comp-specs aren’t always played anymore.

A list of Arena comps and their names for those who don’t know and are curious.

Melee Cleave – A comp that contains two Melee dps and a healer (example being TSG)

Spell Cleave – A comp that contains two Caster dps and a healer (Example being Shadowplay). Also refering to Ele/Destro/Healer in s8 or Ele/Frost Mage/Healer s1-s3

RMP – Rogue/Mage/Disc or Holy Priest.

RMPal - Rogue/Mage/Holy Paladin

RMD - Rogue/Mage/Resto Druid

TSG (Teh Super Gosus) – Warrior/DK/Healer (Originally with Holy Paladin)
(Named after the ´09 Blizzcon winners that ran this comp)

Owlplay – Shadow Priest/Balance Druid/Healer

Shatterplay/God Comp – Shadow Priest/Frost Mage/Healer

Fireplay - Shadow Priest/Fire Mage/Healer

Shadowplay – Shadow Priest/Warlock/Healer

KFC (Kung Fu Cleave) – Warrior/Hunter/Healer

Beastcleave – Enhance Shaman/BM Hunter/Healer

PHDK – Holy Paladin/Hunter/DK

PHP (or Cupid Cleave) - Ret Paladin/Hunter/Disc or Holy Priest

Suprisingly this only took me about 20 minutes. Feel free to add current comps I might’ve missed or some weird old ones in the comments. Always fun to reminisce

WW:

Thunderchi: WW/Ele/Healer at least that’s what people called it in MoP when the comp was still viable before WoD
KFCHI: WW/Hunter/Healer
Walking with the Stars: WW/Boomkin/Healer
WW/Shadow people also called it back in MoP Coala cleave or something around that but most people probably say nowadays SP/WW, but SP/WW is not anymore so viable like it used to back when this comp was formed.

WW/Fury and WW/Mage are indeed new comps for WW in this xpac and Legion.

I also believe Mage/Ele had a name during Legion but can’t remember it anymore.

Actually thought about adding KFChi and TSChi (Arms Warr/WW/Healer, might aswell use it for WW/Fury aswell) but haven’t heard anyone say those names since MoP, so I chose not to, maybe we’ll bring it back :wink:

I haven’t heard Walking with the Stars before but I like it.

During wrath thanks to short interupt cds Rogue/Enh/Disc was called Kanye West Cleave due to famus Taylor Imma let you finish thing.

Ret/Hunter/Priest was called cupid cleave.

I know that enh/mm/h priest from MoP was also called Beastcleave but I’m not sure if it’s still accurate.

WW/Enh/healer needs good name. It was cool comp in MoP and Legion. It also worked a bit in season one.

I also remember that back in Cata people called Ele/Boomy/x Godcleave. But this comp wasn’t that popular so it didn’t stick.

Also Shatterplay has few variants - original shatterplay was with R Sham. Shattertree then called godcomp (R druid symbiosis Ice Block). H pala variant was called shatterplay or godcomp too.

In Wrath 2x Arms/healer was called Lumberjack cleave.

War rsham hpall was called turtle cleave in bc

Dunno if it actually exist but I heard it on stream and I found it very funny haha

DH/Balance/R Sham was invented by that troll Corkiy and he called it DMS probably from DH Moonkin Shaman but it sounds weird

I did find two forum posts from 2010 where those names are mentioned, and another from 2017.

Don’t really see why they would panic over some historical names.
