Ask anyone you want some questions - forum fun thread

Hello, hello!

At the moment i’m slow levelling a Dark Iron shaman; a rehash of a character that i had a fair while ago! He’s a jeweller that downed his delicate work to take up sorcerery/geomancy to combat the Dark Horde.

But my last big idea that kind of fizzled into the void (which both you and Hangart were privy too) was the Northern EK Horde group/community idea. A blend of how the blood elf conclave worked and an attempt to generate roleplay between Lordaeron, Hammerfall and the High Home. Dragging the Horde together to work on some DM’d foes and under the counter conflict with the Alliance. We were going to construct it entirely through roleplay, go out and make contacts - build relationships and simply let it grow arms and legs. Alas.

I actually have a lot of time for the dynamic and differences for these three areas and i feel that historically the tribalism that is pervasive in roleplay has caused a lot of opportunities between the three to be whiffed.

It’s something i’d maybe like to come back too, i’d love to come back to Bladewing as well (especially with Midnight around the corner) and kick it up again but ultimately i’ve had too much on my plate for a long while and i don’t think i can promise the consistent enthusiasm to maintain anything to a decent standard. Balancing my personal life, an increasingly anti social work rota, the educational/promotional courses i’m doing and the fact that i’m pretty vindictive on having a bit of time to myself and decompress every day… i haven’t had much room to do anything beyond hype Hangart up about a roleplay idea that didn’t materialise (sorry pal). Saying that, i have a 10 day holiday coming up soon, i’ll see if i can get about then! It will all ease up eventually (I hope).

There’s simply not enough time in the day at the moment. I’d love to do more, but with me being busy and relatively out of the loop it’s increasingly feeling like a hurdle to actually get into roleplay; feels like a negative feedback loop really (cue the small violins).

Though i did partake in the Monsoon campaign and i had an utter blast with what i had the time for. It was quite cosy, always had a soft spot for Feralas, mind you.

@Iszy As the resident Dragon enjoyer, what are your honest thoughts on Dragonflight? Do you think Ebyssian was a cop-out? Do you think the different flights had satisfying narratives? Is there anything you would have done differently?

Honestly, I think Dragonflight is a pretty good expansion. The story made sense, the gameplay was fun, and Evoker is probably one of my favourite all time classes from the mmos I’ve played at a relatively high level (FFXIV and WoW). It was the expansion I came back after a 5 year break from BfA and revitalised my love for the game and RP once again, so in that sense I love the expansion.

The story can easily be taken as pretty good and solid, I’ve always considered Dragonflight a nice little conclusion/sequel to Cataclysm and the things developed in Cataclysm and the books surrounding it. The Aspects regaining their powers makes somewhat sense (even if it’s something I’m not too particularly happy about, but hey, we haven’t got 400+ years to wait for a new Embrace), and I really enjoyed the Incarnates’ storyline. My biggest gripe has to be the lack of actual flavour within the Dragonflight story, such as why Vyranoth despised Alexstrasza, as this was only really seen through War of the Scaleborn, a book which came out AFTER most of the Dragonflight story was told. Ontop of that, I wish there was more distrust and dislike between the dragonflights? The Black Dragonflight essentially being forgiven after ten thousand years (and more) of war crimes and other such things is actually kind of strange to think about; surely the blue or red dragonflight would have a little more things to say considering all their past? As well as a little brief mention of “oh yeah, corrupt cleansed, woo!”, it feels a bit of a cop out in that regards.

Ebyssian becoming Aspect is something I’m not particularly fond of, being one of two dragons (Wrathion as well) that are more aligned with mortals/grew up around mortals than their own kin, having someone akin to a Highmountain/Tauren kind of moral code could lead to some interesting things to come up, but I wouldn’t consider Ebyssian Aspect material because of that? He does not have the kind of iron fist that is needed with an arrogant dragonflight like the Obsidian. I think Ebyssian was a last minute choice that was just kind of thrown into the works when they were making the Zaralek/Aberrus storyline, because I think Blizz wouldn’t want Wrathion to be Aspect because he’s likely needed for diplomacy, and Sabellian… well, I haven’t figured out why they didn’t want him to be leader (maybe he stands for everything Neltharion stood for, and they want to change that legacy?) The Aberrus conclusion just seems completely random that the two arrogant characters would just give up the leadership because of… the power of friendship? But I digress.

I think the Blue Dragonflight had a really cool and satisfying end to its storyline, with Malygos and Sindragosa gaining some ‘closure’ after their Wrath of the Lich King story. Malygos turning to madness, to then return to his normal self in his death is actually kind of sweet. I also loved their love and interactions with one another in death; Malygos really loved Sindragosa, and it was told in this storyline and another side-quest in the Azure Span about them. It’s incredibly cute.
The green and bronze technically also got conclusions to their own storyline as well, with Amirdrassil’s bloom and Murozond’s demise (which I absolutely adore the storyline of Dawn of the Infinites, by the by), but the black and red dragonflights kinda got left wanting more. Red dragonflight just turned into… egg tenders, I suppose? And the black dragonflight conclusion is… well, last paragraph. I would have loved a little bit more into their past and a bit more of ‘coming to terms’ with Neltharion’s legacy a bit more, or even the two flights interacting with each other in a more disgusted way? A red dragon that remembers the Second War, for example? The red dragonflight kind of suffers from Alexstrasza being a bit of a one-dimensional character, which is a shame considering she’s supposed to be the Queen (and Scaleborn really goes into her little characterisation a bit more, and personal turmoils. Tyr is actually kind of a bad guy? Crazy!).

I think if I were writing Dragonflight, I would have probably had a bit more intricate detailing into how the Black Dragonflight cleansed their corruption of ten thousand years, but also continued the Adamanthia storyline related to the Augmentation Evoker a bit further. I would have loved a bit more information about the Black Dragonflight prior to their corruption, we have Hraxian’s storyline and, of course, Adamanthia, but I would have loved to have seen more. Maybe some older Black dragons that have somehow survived all this years and are elderly dragons?
I think I would have made mention of the Dracthyr and Chromatic dragon relation, too. There’s a lot of things that scream chromatic with the Dracthyr, but it’s just things that are kinda just headcanon-y. I would have loved a little flashback with Nefarian and Neltharion talking about the Dracthyr if you happened to go to BWD, for instance. The Black Dragonflight has a massive archive of lore, so would have loved a bit more conclusion/tying it up after the 25+ years that they’ve been written.

I’m sure there’s more things I want to write, but out of fear of going waaayy too much into it, I’ll stop my rambling here. And keeping with the rules of the thread…

@Vaxir, Hows your RP been in the months since we last spoke? Did you ever figure out a character to roleplay?

Thanks for the question! I oddly didn’t get a notification but was luckily told I got mentioned.

I’ve been RPing quite a bit on my rogue since a couple of friends came back from hiatus. Said rogue knows their characters well and was in their guild, which nicely reformed, so I’ve been RPing him along with a revived old character who is also in their guild. I dip between them both as well as RPing a Scourge character at random and in events. So I have three mains and lots of RP to do. Annoyingly, even though I have a fountain of RP before me, I can’t fathom doing too much. I think it’s a combination of not being used to RPing a lot, as well as my brain just going BRRRRR distractions. And I get tired. It’s not like back in the day where I could RP for hours.

However… I don’t feel any solid connection to any of my characters as I did Vaxir, which is a shame. This probably also contributes to not RPing as much as I could.

But yes! I now have three characters which I do love and RP! Finally lmao You and a few other people are aware it’s taken me a long time (YEARS) to settle, which I finally have.

Hmmm… A question and for who…

@Desartin What do you RP these days? How are things going in that aspect? Any storylines? 8D

Oh hey, I was mentioned!

To answer your question, at the moment, roleplay on Desartin is still going pretty strong. He is currently in Gilneas where he partook in the Grand Gilneas Games and managed to win the joust. It was his first victory in any tourney-setting, and in the city he was born in too, in a nation just rebuilt from the ashes. So to say that he was very happy is an understatement.

As for any other storylines, well, when the new trilogy of upcoming expansions was announced, I got thinking to myself “I want to give Desartin something to do, a quest befitting of a Knight of the Silver Hand to embark on.”

Now Des here, he’s a former Argent Crusader, and as a result, he’s a big fan of Tirion Fordring and the Ashbringer. He always found it a terrible tragedy that they eventually lost both. And with the destruction of Dalaran, where he lost a few friends ( either dead or missing), he feared that’d be only the beginning. That worse things are to come, even if he does not know exactly how or what ( he does not know who Xal’atath is for instance, nor does he know of her existence, only that someone or something corrupted the Nerubians and helped destroy Dalaran).

And so his thoughts returned to Ashbringer… and he eventually decided that a weapon like that is needed once again. So, he’s now embarked on a quest to try and re-create something in it’s image, to the best of his abilities.

I must admit, I had alot of fun drawing up the IC notes for the materials he’d need, as the whole forging process is very vague and nobody really knows how Ashbringer was made. So he has to wing alot and hope it works out somehow. Now naturally its never going to be as powerful as the real deal, but it is a fun quest for him, one that can drive his motivations, and keep him occupied. I try to go about it in a mostly organic way, though sometimes I may also host an event myself related to it. And I got the destination of the journey in mind, just not when he will reach it. Maybe he will already succeed in The War Within, maybe it will take until Midnight, or, depending, even until the Last Titan. Maybe he won’t even succeed at all! He’s also pretty secretive about it, not many of his friends or fellow paladins know.

Next to that he is also slowly coming to terms with having to be a family-man soon, so, that’s pretty much what he is up to!

My other characters I RP at times, Salfalur and Hargorin, Des’ respective granddad and brother, also come out at times, but I haven’t thought out their stories as much yet.

But yes, that’s what I’ve been busy with!

Now, as for who to ask a question… ah, yes. @Trautfizzle from Boomtech inc, what are you currently up to these days, aswel as your guild? Probably having alot of fun with the current Undermine patch I presume?

Alas I was away and not able to comment earlier but time’s up, you have a bit more than 3 hours to ask someone else a question and that person to respond, otherwise the first lucky poster below will get their turn.

Damn, missed this as I wasn’t on the forums! Shame. Chat to you on disc @Desartin

Yoink.

@Pathology What are you doing these days in terms of RP? Is it all private or can others get a piece of the action?

Damn, guess people are busy being adults.

@Torkazi What two bits of canon lore that’s not related to WoD, TBC and Shadowlands would you completely retcon that would fundamentally change the setting for the better?

I’m barely adulting by procrastinating from the thesis-writing on a lunch break, worry not!

You’ve set up the parametres to make the question interesting, yet I appreciate the lee-way of leaving BfA in, at least! Needless to say, the botching of the entire troll storyline by killing Vol’jin - in order to hype the most expensive character assassination arc of Sylvanas no less - stands at the top, without too fundamentally changing the past.

If we’re getting into fundamentals, a part of me is considering what could’ve been gained from a more measured pace with Garrosh. I’ve grown to appreciate the crux of his character always being villainous more than I used to back in 2012, yet still I think on the amount of development gained from the sheer friction of his presence on the world-stage - how much more would have been gained by not blowing the lid in Pandaria but say, Legion?

Proper fundamentals is retconning the two-faction system to begin with, namely the Forsaken and Night Elves both having to experience severe re-imagining (hack-sawing) with their worldbuilding to justify their initial inclusions to the Alliance and Horde, let alone the decades that came thereafter.

@Yokaiizu How’s it been - troll-side and any other characters/projects you’ve been enjoying? Going into the brass-tacks of a pre-Midnight and post heritage quest world; how do you feel about the state of troll rp now that the BFA-hype & the IC tumults of the community have long since been settled?

Nów that is a good question! I think troll RP is definitely past its prime of 50+ tusks showing up to casual events like in the times of BfA, especially with all the variety of tribal/Zandalari/Horde guilds there was always something to find for your character even if their concept was quite niche, and the character-led plots especially thrived at that time to the point it reaaally could be confusing but at the same time super rewarding for those who had the spoons to keep up! So, in a way, I’ve really come to appreciate the smaller community we’ve got going right now once I’ve experienced that rp as both a member and an organiser.

But - we’d be here a long long time if I just focused on what happened in troll RP over the past 7 years or so, so I’ll just focus on the present as asked!

I’ve been saying it for quite some time, but I’d love to see more Horde-aligned troll guilds around. Revantusk, Shatterspear, Darkspear - that trio has so much potential for organised RP, forging a new idea of troll unity under the red banner just seems like such a cool idea to me with opportunity for collabs with non-troll guilds as well. And, personally, I would love to explore the conflict between your good ol’ stubborn trollish traditions and the rest of the ‘polite’ Horde society!

Since Yoka’s story has reached its natural conclusion for now and I’ll be retiring him from proper active RP for the time being (so don’t sharpen your daggers!) I’ve been setting my sights back towards Horde troll RP, returning like the prodigal son :stuck_out_tongue: got some ideas brewing but taking it chill for now!

Apart from that, I’ve also just started dabbling in Forsaken RP. So, shoutout to any rotties reading this!

Very well, @Meronspell long time no see! I’m so sorry but I have to pass the curse on….

What was the best RP-PVP event/campaign any of your characters participated in? Emote, unrestricted, doesn’t matter, just need some nostalgia :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Et tu, Yoka?

Honestly, over 7-8 years there’s been a lot that I’ve enjoyed, hard to pick just one. Drums of War is a really obvious contender, it was the last time the server as a whole managed to come together and it created the biggest RP-PVP we’ve seen to-date. As much as it had issues, I do look back really fondly on seeing AD be able to put some grudges aside for a final time for Drums of War and crash the server.

A year or two ago with the Primalist-focused one in Blackrock, that was really enjoyable as well, especially to NPC for given we’d sometimes have 40-50 people NPCing Primalists, Elementals etc.

All of the Soggoth’s were good, unique fun. I think the Stonetalon one was probably the most enjoyable next to Darkshore.

Drums of War is definitely what sticks in my head the most though, we’ve never had anything like it before or since in sheer scope. It was very much the peak of the server’s ability to mobilise as one big community.

@Dekarn sorry buddy, what’s the current and on-going RP plans, inside or outside HoC. Any other RP concepts brewing in your head? If so, what ones?

Good times, good times.

The most current of current is me being on a bit of a break after our recent Blood Moon campaign in STV because oops ! my workload has trippled and hours have shifted with the rise of my ancient foe (the entire season of spring), so there’s not loads to be said on that front.

I started RPing my goblin alchemist not long ago and it’s been a very refreshing shift from my usual trend of more serious and physically strong characters. Don’t get me wrong, orc warrior gang for life, but there’s something liberating about playing a potion-slinging thieving little weasel that will not hesitate to use others as meatshields. That, and scouring wiki pages on the flora of various regions and their uses.

@Skabb hi hello hi  it’s been cool to see the rotgang back in action, any big plans on the horizon?

Hiii Dekarn!

You’d think we would slow down after the Stranglethorn saga but we’ve only been picking up the pace. I’m very glad to be back and to know that every night is RP night for those who want it. The Rotgarde are making some big movements around Lordaeron and for the nearing future we are focusing on some storylines written by my amazing officer team! ( Shoutout to both them and our members, it’s a rare blessing to have such an amazing crew that you can DM a whole evening and come out the other end with more energy than when you went in. )

Speaking of post campaign…

I’m curious about @Watrus !! Has the jungle fever settled for the venturers? Where have you ended up and where do you plan on heading to going forward? Did you put Hekima to justice yet?!

HELLO!

The jungle didn’t let us go too soon, as we had a waddle down to Booty Bay, some short events that side, and then shot off quite quick to Zandalar! Jungle to jungle…

The next major venture is finally getting into Undermine. I’m incredibly excited for it, the city is completely crackers and in depth, and an absolute treat to explore around. I’m looking forward to these characters dealing with it, filth and all.
I’ve been doing a bit of set up, though. I’m a really slow leveller so having to crack a goblin character up for NPC duties from 1-73 (so far!) in a week has been a challenge. Also might have spent my day mapping as many of the open buildings as I could…

Hekima dies tomorrow. Well, so we’ve planned, but IC marches on.

I havn’t really been on the forums as much as I used to so I don’t know who is active, who looks at it and who wishes it didn’t exist.
I’ll thus tag thread-maker @Galek!

So, what is Galek’s story? Tell me about this character. Or, if he’s not your RP main, whoever is!

Well, my true last RP main for many years (since late Mists to Shadowlands) was my infamous SI:7 superstar agent Ryan Jeyce who I pretty much shelved ever since as I figured that I’ve explored pretty much what I wanted to explore on the character, there was also a lack of lore developments in the game that I found interesting enough for the character and also, that bringing back the guild, Stormwind Bureau, wasn’t really going to happen after we tried three times or so. I also co-managed a SI:7 community kickstarted by Adolphus but that also ultimately fizzled down and I decided to close doors on it as I found interest in SI:7 roleplay waning. Which is a shame, because I think some proper spy roleplay has a lot of potential and it always bugged me that people on this server preferred to portray them as supercops of Stormwind.

Anyway, ever since I’ve been struggling to attach myself to a character the same way I was attached to Jeyce and I’ve tried a few, so a lack of ideas at least for character concepts is still something I don’t struggle with, but getting some cool character development for those characters (at least the kind I’d want to) is another story. I suppose part of that is me not really being interested in joining guilds as I kinda feel burned out on them.

Which is why I’ve been wrestling with the idea to make my own for a few years now. I’ve come up with a few different concepts, discussed them with my good buddies from the renowned Jade Brigade. A few months ago I decided to give Horde roleplay a chance, hence Galek here and with it came another idea.

See, I like to keep my concepts relatively simple, at least on surface level and let them shine through roleplay, interactions, development and so on. I find that to be much more interesting than trying to play a character that has a thousand little quirks and insane backstories where it feels like everything has been explored on them.

Galek is meant to be the prime example of my approach to roleplay as he couldn’t be more simple of a character. He’s a young orcish warrior who has yet to earn his experience in battle, someone I figured I could explore the differences between the ‘old’ Horde of WC3/vanilla days and the ‘new’ Horde that we have now, post-Garrosh and Sylvanas. I wanted to see what could be explored if I put a character right in the middle of all that, as he was raised and trained by a warband of that feels like it was taken straight out of Rexxar’s campaign in TFT, sans Rexxar. Galek’s father, the leader of it along with other members installed their ideas of honour, what it means to be an orc and to be part of the Horde and how to treat the Alliance. But I figured that even a young orc could be impressionable enough to have all those ideas challenged when he’d simply start interacting with others and learn what their ideas of the Horde are. Will he stay true to the lessons and wisdoms shared by his father and the rest of the warband, or embrace something new??

Anyway all that leads to the most recent guild idea I’ve had and which I’m commited to at the moment (if I won’t lose track, hopefully it will come sometime by Midnight, unless I’ll be inspired to do something else). I’ve rambled long enough!

@Gabrindion I don’t think I’m very familiar with you outside of the forums, any chance you could tell the rest of us something about your roleplay, where we could have met and interacted with you? What sort of charater are you playing now?

Hey, that’s me.

I’m a chronic altoholic but I have managed to stick to some concepts for longer bits of time.

For instance I was quite active within the night elf community for two rounds. Used to play a wildkin named Oorooma and was there for the infamous senator-gate of Astranaar (and part of the guild until it blew up when everyone found out what the GM did in the Wailing Caverns…)

Second round I played a highborne archmage named Aszil’Midashj (good luck pronouncing that) which may have been my longest RP main to date until he died a couple of years back due to simply being ancient.

Also dabbled quite the bit in mage RP in general. Was part of the Kirin Dal for a brief period as a cooky gnome sorcerer who had gone mad when he tried to infiltrate Karazhan. Much fun that one.

Currently I split my time between a lone wolf blood elf who’s about to leave Shattrath for the first time in years and my Scourge boi. I am actively looking for more venues of casual/more frequent RP though, depending on how much time I have, irl job considered. Lowkey thinking of soft-launching a guild but could also just see myself getting back into wizardry or see what Kul Tiras RP is all about. Guess we’ll see if I can finally settle for something long-term.

@Lintían Speaking of night elves, how fares the community in your opinion? Is Bel’ameth still delivering? Been part of any fun happening/session lately?

Bel’ameth is currently, unfortunately, a far cry from what it was at its inception in 10.2.5. There is a stable core of about six people (counting me) who RP regularly by the inn, but that’s it.

Night elf RP in general carries on, much as it always has. It has scaled back, now that it’s no longer flavor of the month like it was in late Dragonflight. Still, there are periodic priestess and druid gatherings, and for something more civilian oriented, Lintian recently participated in Imbel, the spring equinox festival, and got to plant some flowers.

Next… @Elenthas, what are your current creative pursuits? Writing any more books or D&D homebrew?
