Attempted a GDKP

Since people think you can’t have an opinion about GDKP’s without having tried one for yourself, I decided to join one earlier, that is said to be somewhat established and has been running for a while.

So I managed to get 30k gold together before entering the raid, which I think is a fair amount, atleast for me.

The madness started before even the first boss was dead. The people in charge of the raid leading could barely be understood in plain english and were very toxic. The general raid DPS was even worse than the average SR trade pug. Several people just did random and dumb stuff, and it was just a bad experience.

Several hours later, we were finished after having switched to normal for the last part of the raid. And the bidding started. Several of my bis pieces dropped, and thus I was expected to bid for them at 10k starting bid. I didn’t have enough money to bid on all of it, so I passed on a few upgrades. This didn’t go well with the raid and I got both scolded over Discord and added to the blacklist for being a fake buyer. I did get my cut though, even though some people wanted to deduct me. The cut was also way lower than what I put into the pot myself.

I guess that’s the “thank you” for carrying grey parse dps’ers. Because the overall raid performance was atrocious. Frankly, I don’t care about me being blacklisted. I realised very quickly that there will be no more GDKP for me, and that every single prejudice I had about GDKP’s turned out to be true.

Back to SR trade pugs again.

I once ate at an restaurant and the food was awful. So now ALL restaurants are bad. Do you see the logic my statement? Replace restaurant with gdkp.

Well some people argue that GDKP is the best and most fair raiding. You don’t really say that about McDonalds.

What im saying is you did ONE run, probably with a horrible leader, that cant really bring someone to a conclusion that all gdkps are bad. Im generally a SR guy myself. And ive had bad gdkps aswell, but Ive hade some horrible SRs aswell, for example a SR run wouldnt allow me to SR nebula band for my enhance shammy even thi ts on the bis list.
Do that make all SRs bad? No.

But the first impression is the most important impression, aswell. If you get a rotten burger from a restaurant, you are probably not too keen to go back.

I’m just amazed how people can be in like 5.5k gearscore, do an average 17 parse and have like 100k gold ready to pump out on minor upgrades. It’s just fundamentally wrong to me.

This thread is wrong on so many levels.

The thing about those GDKPs and the high end ones that function well and such is that, for raiding, it’s practically just a guild run.

They just skip out on the rest of the guild stuff.

Care to elaborate?

What bothers me about this is that your value is not what you contribute to the raid, or how well you play. It’s how much you can spend on items to push the pot up. Like, let’s say a 90-parser not able to bid high on every upgrade is scolded, but a 20-parser with hundreds of thousands of gold that buys every single upgrade for all specs is praised as some demigod.

I’ve done 2-3 GDKP raids every week since slightly before the start of ulduar.
In TOGC, i’ve never been in a raid where we didn’t kill anub heroic. Granted, there were no cape runs in the first week either, but since week 3 it’s been pretty reliable to get a cape every week. Prices also aren’t as high in the ones I join.

It seems like you just didn’t join a good group and had a bad experience as a result.

Thats just customer service. The couple of buyers you take into every run finance everyone else’s cut. You need them to be happy and coming back. I personally don’t bid highly on anything, although I do buy every upgrade at least for min, and that is fine too, if you’re a known good player and do your job well.

Oh I’m glad the leaders atleast had the decency to call for a normal anub kill. Some of the heroic bosses that actually went down almost had double the kill times from my last guild run.

And what if you’re a good player and don’t want to spend 10k+ gold for a minimal upgrade? Is that griefing? I really don’t think so, since without my effort (and a few others to be fair), there’s a risk these people would not even see this loot in the first place.

Being a solid main tank the entire raid and spending roughly 2/3 of my total gold apparently wasn’t enough.

Your story sounds like you were too greedy to actually pay for items and play it off like you got scolded ‘‘for passing on a part of the loot’’. Be truthful, did you buy a single piece? Because nobody is scolding you for not paying 25k+ per piece, don’t lie.

Also, please link the warcraftlogs, or atleast post from your main? Because I’d love to see this ‘‘multiple-hour toc25 pug’’ for myself.

I’ve never joined a gdkp in my life btw, but this reeks of dishonesty. If you are being truthful, then yeah that is a nightmare, just sounds a bit too everybody-else-was-horrible-for-no-reason ish

I spent 20k of my total 30k gold, for slight upgrades. Buying every single item that dropped would have cost me 50-60k gold even for the minimum bid amount. Money I just didn’t have. The pot was just above 8k, so I went roughly -12k gold to receive 2 minor upgrades.

If you think I’m dishonest, I mean okay, I can’t do anything about it since I’m not posting the logs here. I don’t see the point of getting even more blacklisted than I already am.

As for my main toon, my best avg. performance is about 91 in ToGC 25. Not the absolute peak of gaming indeed, but above average I’d say.

Idk seems odd to get scolded then unless you said you had more gold than you did which it doesn’t seem like. Seems you ran into an internet psycho. Valuable life experience!

I’m going to be honest, none of the pugs I run with would accept players with less then 100k to spend, I don’t think at least.

Anyways, it seems like you found a bad egg. I’ve refused to buy very small upgrades and so do others in the raid, all the time. And the leaders never throw a fit. The key is to add value to the raid somewhere.

At the same time, the GDKPs ran by people who do this for a living, like it sounds the one you ended up in was, are much more agressive about that stuff and end up doing stuff like this. My only advice to that would be to avoid such groups like the plague.

Nothing regarding gold was said from my part. The group was filling up and I saw they were in need of a main tank, so I whispered leader with class, spec, gearscore and achievement and got invited.

That’s basically all successful runs though. My weekly 50/50+Uld skip SR is also a guild in all but the name tag. I think it’s inevitable, most classic guilds are basically 25man raiding teams with discord and most successful pugs are basically raiding guild without a tag. In the end it’s just 25 people who raid together each week and replace losses/absences/atritions.

This thought is kinda off topic. But it will be interesting to see how this turns out in Cata, when raiding becomes a bit more difficult, and you reap certain rewards from being in the same guild as your team. Assuming we get Cata classic like Cata was back in the days, of course.

Never happens in non-meme gdkps. Your first mistake is not immediately leaving as soon as you notice the raidleader doesnt speak proper english.

Maybe don’t join some dogs.
I do TOGC GDKP twice/week for months now and they take like 30 minutes each with no wipes.

It is. That doesn’t mean that the people running it are good.

All systems are ruined by the idiots that enforce them.
