For pretty much every trade good and many consumes the first page or few pages are 1 copper bids and 50, 100, 300 g buyouts and they are always shown first. Yes I know, download auctioneer or aucionator. I don’t think it should be necessary to use a addon to fix a in-game feature as important as the auction house. It’s annoying to go through a few pages and find the actual lowest price items. To this day I have never fallen for this trick because I don’t use buy macros but I find it to be absurd that in all of blizzards helicopter parenting rules and oversight they have added to the game to make it less toxic they havn’t made auction griefing a bannable offense. It’s like graffiti, the first 3 pages is gold sellers with altcode names trying to get stupid people to accidently buy it. And blizzard doesn’t do anything. This was always a trick used in wow and I remember seeing it as far back as TBC and LK long over a decade ago. It never once covered a few of the first pages of auctions for a specific item tho.
It is not deemed griefing when placing items for any price in any quantitiy on the AH.
You must be joking, there is a warning screen on the native UI that always warns you whenever you try to purchase something that you have to click through and this is also present in AH addons (that you do not wish to use) and in modern AH this entire style is removed in favour of Buyout mode.
Because players demanded to be “OldSkool with pink glasses” the old AH is here. Even on Cata Progressive there was backlash over updating it to modern AH including some minor bugs that are being or are ironed out.
You can sort items after buyout price in the standard UI with no addons at all.
You are asked if you want to buyout the item for the price mentioned.
What more do you want?
Yes for once I defend Blizz - this do happen
I played WOW since 2009 and then in 2019 Classic and I never knew this.
I always used an Addon because I found it stupid that the AH sorts by Current Bid instead of Buyout.
I actually think this was implemented in Classic … it was not a thing in Vanilla
Well it is what it is. In retrospect, Vanilla UI is quite literally not fit for purpose. If WoW released in 2025 instead of 2005, It would be absolutely torn to shreds by Youtube review community as early access cash grab.
We all know what we are playing. I wouldn’t even consider starting classic vanilla game without 20+ ui and gameplay addons.
Skill issue
I play vanilla without addons (well, almost without). It’s awesome.
So do I, I have 3 addons - two just for fun, one to remedy Blizz’s changes (I’d like more of the latter) - the 2 first I could do without And I love it. I play HC mainly. ANd the AH is fine as it is in Classic, no need for any addons there.
Awesome, glad you are having fun. It’s fine to put artificial limitations on yourself if that’s what you like. I hear some people even play iron man self found.
I on the other hand enjoy making my UI as informative and user friendly as the Blizzard tools allow me to.
I mean you can say stuff like that if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy from just how contrarian you are, but you would be objectively incorrect. Anybody putting up hundreds of items for 1 copper bid and 1000g buyout just makes it virtually unusable for that type of item. Even just putting a thousand single pieces of cloth for a slightly above normal price and 1 copper bid makes it an absolute pain. And I donno if it is modified now since I haven’t opened it without Auctionator since 2007 or so, but back in vanilla it would only sort the current open page by whatever you clicked, not the whole supply of the item.
Default AH ui is literally not fit for purpose, and you saying “nah it’s fine” only makes you look foolish.
Don’t talk of things you did not try out first.
You can sort all items in the AH after buyout/bid and per item / per stack with the standard UI.
so telling us things like this makes you look foolish.
Oh, so it’s not the vanilla ui then but some backported legion or retail AH? Well I stand corrected then, maybe it’s somewhat usable. I look foolish indeed. Wonder why you dont modify yours to be vanilla accurate? I don’t care frankly, I have an addon for it
The looks are Vanilla - which is what matters most to me in this case as I don’t care enough about the AH to back change this as I did with other things … more so as I have to make my own addons for this purpose …
And as I said, I do want to use as few addons as possible.
Yeah this just shows how assuming things makes you completely wrong and baselessly self confident at the same time. A valuable lesson. When they said Classic is coming with “warts and all”, I just assumed the auction house will be the same useless mess it was in Vanilla and TBC, so I got the top rated auction house addon before ever reaching a capital city back in August 2019.
I just tried to disable it in game and the default auction looks nothing like I remember it, must be a legion or later version I never played with. Oh well, I take it back then, default AH is indeed somewhat usable. Auctionator is still awesome, I really enjoy seeing latest AH price and Disenchant value on every item I mouse over in the world
As far as I remember, Classic actually started out with the old one - it was modified I think when TBC Classic launched.
