Ever since I moved my WoW installations to a new hard drive the games constantly update when I start up the battle.net app. I’ve done a full re-install, I’ve cleared cache and deleted everything and yet this issue is still persisting, any help?
How big updates are we talking? It’s really just possible that all the small hotfixes are doing that
It happens -every- time I start up battlenet. and the updates are pretty much “instant”
It’s happening really often for me too. When did that start? A week or two ago?
a week ago, when I bought a new external ssd and moved my game folders over to it
I’m pretty sure then it’s just hotfixes then ^^
Unless you mean even restarting battlenet twice just updates the game twice?
If so - try this: WoW updating all the time - #2 by Baltic-stormrage
Also I’m sorry I took so long to reply, I just didn’t expect an instant reply earlier
welp I’ve done that, the problem still persists, and yes restarting battlenet constantly updates aswell.
Hey, so I looked into it more. It seems like it has happened before as well ^^
There were 2 comments that apparently had their issues fixed:
One of them was saying to close the curse client if you’re using that.
The other was to open the bnet app in Admin mode. Can you try these? Especially the admin thing sounds quite good. I’ll try looking for more things in the meantime
Somebody said they moved their wow folder away, started installing the game anew, paused the download, moved their installation back and it seemingly worked?
Another option: Try uninstalling and reinstalling the battle.net app. And then start it with administrator privileges.
Another: Blizzard has responded to a person having your issue:
bluetracker gg/wow/topic/us-en/0-battlenet-app-in-update-loop-and-downloading-even-while-in-game/
Since I don’t have trust level 3 I can’t post links so please put a dot between bluetracker and gg so that you can open the link.
Also a forum link with a similiar post
Hope something here helps you out ^^
It’s been a thing for me for years at this point - I’ve just accepted it (and it happens to all Blizzard games, and no other games from like - Steam.)
It might be due to how Battle.net is and my games being on external SSD.
Well, if what I’ve found is right, it might be that Minako’s moving of the game caused it to screw with permissions and playing with that might fix it, I hope. I feel bad that ppl might be dealing with this, ya know?
It could be - but for me it started in… BFA? And it’s still doing it with every Blizzard game.
Well, try and see if any of this helps you too then
I actually believe that these “Updates” are just “Advertisment assets”, because every time I try and log in, I have to click through an advertisment first.
No Blizzard, I am not going to buy CoD, Diablo, Overwatch or anything else, they are of zero interest to me, stop ramming them down my throat.
Its seriously annoying because each update gets stuck on “Initializing” for at least 10 minutes.
Edit to add: If I stop the “Update” and go to /retail/ and double click WoW.exe, the game loads and runs perfectly fine, basically confirming that the updates are NOT related to the game, and probably just advertisment media.
