BEWARE of the Curseforge app!

It just deleted itself from my computer overnight (checked anti virus logs and has nothing to do with it).

I did some searches and came across the CurseForge reddit where multiple users have reported the same thing, 0 answers from each thread as to the cause.

I don’t trust anything that deletes itself from my computer, went ahead and purged remaining folders/wiped all traces from my registry.

Going back to manually managing addons via the website until i can find a clear and logical answer to this.

The WowUp CF-app seems to be working fine, so you can fetch your CF-addons from there.

Never had any issues with the standalone app but I hope you find something suitable to use instead.

Just a theory but did you have Windows updates before the app magically dissapeared? Microsoft have this new “feature” since Windows 10 where it decides to unistall things without notice during certain updates. I’ve had this happen to me before with certain programs.

curseforge/overwolf would literally install themselves on your PC without your input if they could, what could they possible gain from deleting themselves?

Paranoid much?

Just because you’re paranoid

Doesn’t mean they aren’t actually after you!

You cannot. WowUp does not have access to Curseforge. WowUp can “only” access their own addon hub, TukUI, Wago. io and WoWinterface. And while a lot of addons are on all platforms, there are some exclusives to CF, for example OmniCD, MDT, SimC.

Edit:
Also using the standalone Curseforge app (sans Overwolf), and it’s still working as you’d expect…

If software has vanished, it’s almost certainly one of two reasons:

AntiVirus has removed it.
It tried to update itself and failed half-way through.

If there’s nothing in the AV to say it found suspect behaviour it’s likely just the second cause. Installing the software again will fix it.

This is just completely incorrect. The WowUp.CF version fully supports downloading from Curseforge (hence the ‘CF’ tag attached to that version).

Oh, I was not aware this exists. Thank you for pointing it out.

Overwolf is a disaster. Avoid it at all costs. Either get WoWUp-CF or the stand-alone app, but definitely not Overwolf.

I’ve never ever in my life seen any AV that deinstalled software on your behalf to protect the system from infection.

I did see them quarantaine / delete suspicious files that got picked up through a regular or heuristic scan, and those files are either executables or files that have payloads within them for zerodays.

you can download the curseforge app without downloading overwolf, theres literally a dropdown button at the download page

I wouldn’t touch anything compiled / offered by that company to be honest.

Yo my man, little brotha,
this is the wow- not GHOSTBUSTERS forum, haha, hahaha hehe. Eeeeeh.

Yes it does, I’ve been using it for months.

Updated some apps this morning in fact.

Edit… I see you have previously been shown the correct ip.

Yes my Norton does it quite often when my kid clicks on the wrong thing.

Why reply to a thread when you didn’t read the TITLE?! Clearly reads the standalone app.

Proof that this happens to many other people!!!

SOMETHING is going on folks!!!

Literally nowhere in the title or your post does it say “standalone curseforge app”, curseforge app means the default one which is with overwolf. Are you a clown irl?

Curseforge app means…curseforge app…overwolf app is…come on gold star if you get this!!! What’s the answer???
