BEWARE of the Curseforge app!

Curseforge has deleted itself now on my PC - overnight. For no apparent reason. It has been reported here before. It’s not a conspiracy! No idea how or why this has happened…!

Checked eventmanager to see if anything crops up with regards to that folder, and what actions came from where?

I have never had the issues with Curseforge standalone app, so I can’t advise but a quick google suggests joining the Curseforge discord and they have a solution according to replies on here:-

The standalone app works perfectly, why wouldn’t I use it :dracthyr_hehe_animated:. Overwolf does not run in the background etc. It’s just simple and works. I do understand people fear Overwolf and it’s awful reputation.

However people can use whatever app they are most comfortable with. There is less choice now but there are still a few alternatives to curseforge.

I use WowUp

The title is a little misleading. A program uninstalling itself, likely because of something like a self-update not completing properly, isn’t much reason to be alarmed. It could also be an issue with Windows, for example if you have cloud sync activated. Or user error. Like Beerwolf said, you can look at the logs to get more information.

The title implies the program has done something harmful, which isn’t the case here.

Just set it to close when you close curse. I’ve had overwolf for years for heartharena and never had an issue with it. Game lags a bit when it is open but other wise fine

It does not run in the background on the standalone app. That’s my point

There’s also the ‘download and install manually’ method, which scared me a bit the first time I did it, but I’ve done it so often now that Windows picks my addons folder by default to extract to.

Old skool!!! Yeah it’s funny to think we did that in the past.

It was such a godsend when we started getting apps to do that. Mind you we get a lot more updates now than we used to.

Oh I know I’m just saying how I set it up and get the same result

I do it now. I won’t rely on the Curseforge app and I use a few addons that aren’t on the others.

I know, but with the number of addons I have and how often they update there is just no way I’d go back to it. I’m Captain convenience. I use the Rio desktop app and the WAs one too.

I know a few who prefer the old ways. Nothing wrong with it.

I tried the app cos for some reason Rio takes twice as long as other addons to update, ending up just using curse tho

I use the RIO and WAs ones, and WowUp. I just don’t trust Curseforge not to sneakily install stuff under the guise of an update.

I’m still doing it this way. Makes me reconsider which addons I actually still want to use each patch. Think that’s quite “healthy”.

I’m always looking at ones to get rid of and I clear out WAs regularly once they are done. Great source of lag sometimes.

Or none if they so wish.

I manually update my AddOns, I have a text file with the urls to all the AddOns I use and I just click download, Open the file, drag and drop onto the relevant folder.
It’s not a lot of work nor does it need to be done often. It’s a perfectly viable option for people.
