Big computer upgrade, but constant "disconnecting", constantly. Other games work fine!

So i got a big upgrade to my last PC. A whole new build, and since then I haven’t been able to play the game hardly at all. It keeps sort of disconnecting? I can run around but can’t press anything or make anything happen, but I can move and things are still happening, sort of like a disconnect? . Sometimes it will be right away, other times it will last an hour or so. I have tried a full reinstall, a complete PC rebuild and I am at a loss. Below is my specs, I’d greatly appreciate some help.

i9-10900k 3.70GHZ 32 gig of 3600 ram and a 3080 10gig

edit: ALL other games work totally fine!

Had a simular issue when i got my pc, there can be 2 causes as far as i know

1 . Windows wasnt installed correctly

2 . Your screens are very old to the point of freezing

I’ve done a windows install and my monitor is a ROG STRIX XG49V 49".

Check your memory, make sure it is seated correctly, do a memtest, make sure theres no damage to the memory modules, check your memory speeds are set correctly in bios (XMPP Profile).

To my mind, what you are describing sounds like a memory issue.

Would it be those issues if it only affects wow? I can run everything else fine as well.

You do realise that WoW is not “everything else”?

Just like a raw onion tastes bad when compared to a raw apple, you wouldn’t ask why the onion tastes bad because apples don’t and they are all food.

Some programs are more sensitive to memory issues than others, and the older the core engine is, the more it becomes an issue. Just be thankful you didn’t go with a Ryzen CPU, because those are REALLY sensitive to memory timings.

Well I can confirm the memory is seated fine. Doesn’t a memtest wipe the HDD? Also how would I check and confirm the memory speeds are set correctly in the bios, and I’m not sure what an XMPP profile is. Apologies.

There is no reason memtest should wipe the hdd, as it runs from a USB flash drive, and all it does is write random data to each memory cell, and then sees if it can read it back without error. Just make sure you install it to a usb drive and not a hdd.

XMPP Profiles are set in bios. Mostly it should autodetect, but sometimes the autodetection gets it wrong, so its always worth manually checking and altering if need be.

I’ll try this and write back. Really frustrating situation!

Just make sure you use memtest86 usb version. Microsoft also make a memtest utility but Ive never used it so I can’t advise on it.

https://www.memtest86.com/

I’ll give this a go and report back.

  • Run “latencymon”, run the game, when it shows problems alt-tab to latencymon - check if it’s not reporting latency problems (sometimes nvidia driver can conflict with audio driver and needs cleaning)
  • What is your storage? If it’s a SSD is it getting close to full?
  • Are your hardware temperatures fine? (are temps and clocks as they should be?)
  • When the game starts having problems you can run “userbenchmark” benchmark (while the game is running). It’s very simple but it gives percentile performance for each of your components vs others that have it. If one of them has a problem during WoW gameplay then the benchmark should return a super low percentile.

Hey! thanks for the reply, i will get back to you on this! Also the memtest came back totally normal.

try to play it with 0 mods, if its working normally, then simply open the mods one by one to see which is causing the problem, if that didn’t work then i hope someone here helps you, i know its annoying when it happens.

Edit: make sure you are running on default setting, or let Nvedia experience auto optimize it for you.

I’ve been having a similar issue since pre-patch. The games seems to freeze for a few seconds then return to normal most of the time. Somtimes it just goes white and the close or wait to respond screen comes up. Was fine before the patch and a few others i’ve spoken to have also had the issue since then.

Tried:

So far i’ve tried:

  • Run the repair tool
  • Made sure the graphics settings are using my 2070 GPU and not “default”
  • Tried running it on both DX11 and DX12
  • A full reinstall
  • Updated all my graphics drivers to the latest version
  • Disabled all add ons for a while to see if that help (still happens with all addons off)
  • Closing all other applications but wow and it still occurs
  • Tested my ram (no issues)

Really strange.

Mine’s been doing this since the PC upgrade! Every other game works totally fine, just the issue with WoW!
