What are you on about? The game time is unaffected, the change is the removal of the one month subscription to a three month subscription, which you can take, then cancel asap, so you only have the one month!
That’s not how this change works.
Well aware of the tactics companies deploy nowadays.
But making a law that works or protects people from certain activities as listed by you, isnt as easy as you keep telling us.
Businesses will find loopholes and workarounds to new legislation before it is even finalized and put into work.
Lootboxes for example arent allowed in the Netherlands because they are considered gambling.
Before legislation actually passed, certain games with said “lootboxes” were already changed to say:
Contains 1 item of X quality.
Immediatly undoing the new laws and rules put in place.
How about the whole technical advancements and social media codes?
A few years ago youtubers / instagram people etc could get filthy rich and barely pay any taxes because the law and rules werent set up.
Just google how much effort it is to be a “proper influencer” in 2021 and how different countries have different rules and how they werent in place just 2-3 years ago.
And the list goes on.
You want to protect people from companies and as lydia points out, you can never protect them all or find the: works for all solution.
If compulsive buyers get into trouble because they spend their money on anything that gets advertised, they need proper financial guidance and help or maybe a friend or person who handles their finances so they can pay rent or mortgages and the cost of living.
Instead of spending said money and income on new lootboxes, gametime or some other compulsive buy.
We also still have beer brewers and they all advertise with: dont drink and drive.
Yet people get killed / arrested / injured while drunk driving.
Nobody is yelling we need to stop beer breweries from brewing beer or advertising their beer during commercials of a soccer match.
Its fairly simple, yes we need to help people who need help, but we cant blame it all on companies who “just” run their business.
it’s buying game time that is changing. Subscriptions are unchanged.
ah got it backwards then…apologies
Or the official version here
Easily done
Yet the microtransactions are some “evil predatory monsters” people need protection from? Yet sweets, alcohol can also be heavily advertised and some people might feel “pressured” and forced to do it. And no real protections against them though?
Feel free to murder your kidney with excessive alcohol consumption. Oh and ruin your life as well(nobody wants an alcoholic). Your choice after all? Its a free country! But don’t you dare endanger me with some pixels on a microtransaction?
So alcohol, unhealthy lifestyle, smoking. Free choice. And which can cause health destroying addiction.
Pixels in a video game microtransaction. BAN BAN BAN!!!
Too much women, not enough alcohol…hic
To be honest my country had huge problem with alcohol related crimes, then new law was put in place to limit alcohol acquisition and crime dropped a lot, even if quite a few people were unhappy with this law.
Of course it is impossible to protect everything and have a perfect solution, but companies shouldnt get a green pass every time they do something scummy, because “its just what business do”. If all gamers stood against mircrotransactions then such a thing wouldnt exist, but there are too many who think its fine, because its just business. See the example of Star Wars Battlefront or Shadow of War, where whole game had to be significantly overhauled.
All of these things, including microtransactions, are bad and should be heavily regulated. I would be totally fine with complete ban on alcohol and smoking, these things not only harm yourself, but also those around you. There is also rising regulation for sugar, trans fat and similar things to be included on packaging or limited in production.
A vulnerable person, let me protect you from the alcohol.
Its important you dont get persuaded by alcohol and doing bad things.
pathetic decision, Blizz trying to force players either use subscriptions or pay more EUR… well at least Blizz gets less money if I or someone else will decide to make a break before the next expansion. Last time I made such break in Legion I lost about 100 Eur in never used pre-paid time, will not happend again.
alas unless your bits are on the inside, its Stella Tortoise for me
Stella Sunday’s bring back memories… not all of them though,
Just to note. We both went off-topic here. But we are also comparing 2 different stuff.
Alcohol +crime = The new law benefits most people cause public safety improves. its in everyone’s interest.
Unhealthy food = If you want to be “fat and lazy” fine. But you are also putting a strain on our health care system and your work productivity fails = less tax income.
Pixels in a video game just “damages the wallet” of people who actually use it. It doesn’t or at least is not a major contributing factor towards crime or a big strain on the healthcare system. So the government taking action against alcohol, tobacco, unhealthy food(the sick guys still need to get medical help with your tax money paying for it) serves the interest of many.
While microtransactions control just serves interest of people who have an opposing opinion about them? Perhaps the government should also take part in the “pro flying vs anti-flying” debate as well?
For something that as been in the game from the beginning and worked, they will not put in the time and effort to change anything unless they believe they can squeeze profit out of it.
They will have crunched the numbers the reason for change is 100% for gains, and as a bonus from the change they get to artificially inflate the subscription numbers for their investors, whether players sub and cancel they will still count the subscription’s I can guarantee that… It’s all business
“Yo you wanna check WoW? It’s pretty cool there nice raids, dungeons, zones, mounts”
“Seems nice, i want to just give it a short try, maybe a few weeks or a month, how can i play it?”
“Well you gotta pay up 2 months of game time and you can’t have part of the value back if you didn’t played the 2 full months”
“Well i guess i will try something else…”
Or you can sub for one month, problem solved.
Its all for a new 200 mil cheque for our beloved Bobby.
Stop being logical, these are the WoW forums!
