Blizzard closing office in Versailles, France

Another few millions $ for bobby kotick i guess.

Of course… Can’t risk having anywhere near a sane wage for the CEO. Gotta fire a few hundred more employees so that he can get even more money.

I hope all the Blizzard staff show their displeasure about this? Surely they must think that their job could be next? Stick together.

F :funeral_urn:

Sadly not the first time Blizzard decided to pull out stuff like this out of nowhere.

Remember 800 people getting laid off?

large organizations that can clearly pay all of its employees doing layoffs right now is just wrong. i know people who lost their job for whatever reason and now they live on unemployment checks, people with families. and im not the only one.
luckily, i still work.

but blizzard is making its money from the online gaming. with monthly income. they are working from home. most of their expenses are probably to pay their developers… and ‘greedy Bobby’.
they can easily pay these 400 people who probably work low wage job.

That was mostly eSports staff after they moved their focus from esports. No development staff were sacked, in fact they add to them.

It seems like the strategy is to reduce the size of the behemoth that is Blizzard, and consolidate some of its operations under Activision.

I mean, Blizzard don’t have 12 million WoW customers anymore. And their other games are on a similar downward spiral. So the company is too big. Hence all the layoffs we’ve seen. And of course, if you have less people, then you don’t need so many buildings either.
And then Blizzard’s autonomy has meant that they’ve always done everything themselves, from localization to publishing to advertisement. But if your company structure already has a subsidiary that specializes in a lot of that - Activision - then you can effectively consolidate those operations of Blizzard under Activision, and just have Blizzard be a developer company that develops games and nothing else - like Activision Blizzard’s other subsidiaries.
Consolidated, specialized, effectivized, and optimized. :unamused:

yea they increase the development staff by 100%. They added 1 dev to a total of 2 now for shadowlands.

we never had any except those trolls spaming gd?

Does that mean some forums mods will be losing their jobs?

Must remain quiet. Must resist ranting.
…

Yes. Correct.

Does this also mean that future French, Italian, Spanish and German localizations will have problems?

Whatever , move your … to China or Eastern Europe. Capitalism always exploits cheap places. At the end of the day “Sharks does not care about lil fishy” right …right.

I don’t think so. Theoretically you can do localization from everywhere. I mean you could hire germans or italians in california as well if necessary.
Knowing blizzard they will probably just use google translator and call it a day

Living in China, I can tell you that China is not cheap at all anymore. I mean i pay my engineers in china a higher salary that the engineers in germany get… while ofc being absolutely useless

The best thing we can do to make them understand is not buying Shadowlands nor any new pet/mount.

Could you imagine the haulage fee? Trust me, I have stood in front of that thing and it’s massive!

I’ve also asked what would happen to the “Picard Shrine” the community team had in their office. Staff would leave “offerings” to a framed picture of him, but sadly that was removed in the last lot of staff cuts last year :frowning:

Blizzard is proving left and right that contact with their community is last thing they care about, so going with this policy is “right” move in their opinion.

The only contact with community is Blizzcon, but only because they are making money from it…

If they close em down, what will happen to the servers being hosted there?
Will they ship the hard drives to Germany or someting?
Some of the biggest English servers are hosted there as well

I’m pretty sure that the servers are not in the Versailles office, but in a datacenter.
