Blizzard dev's don't understand the purpose of the Crafting system in a RPG game

The crafting system should be a fundamental and primary source of items in an RPG game, so the game can have an organic ecosystem, and economy in which players can immerse themselves. Mobs should drop mostly crafting materials, NOT THE ENTIRE ITEMS.
Dungeons should revolve around scavenging FOR CRAFTING MATERIALS, and not around dumb 15min speed runs for quick item drop, which make a) very boring gameplay, and b) crafting being obsolete. Raid items, dungeon items, quest items, vault items… like seriously, who the hell will care about crafting if you can just mindlessly - almost - autoplay the game, and your dumb systems will gear you up in even 400+ items. Wth is this nonsense again? What was this talk about listening to community, and pretending that you changed?

Your misguided game design makes crafting - AGAIN! - the least relevant source of items in the game, and quite frankly a massive, disappointing waste of time.

Most professions are actually fundamental though. Where do you think potions, enchants, gems, materials and a lot current gear comes from?

I love that dungeons are just dungeons, not boring material gathering bs. This is a game not a job

I only play pvp,but if dungeons dropped materials i would play them to craft my pvp stuff.

If crafting will be main resources of items i will quit wow and never came back again.
Only a think about how much grind i will spend with crafting wich is most boring and unlogicall thing in game … No way. + AH materials and resources for crafting will cost per each stacks like Tokens…ggwp if you wanna ruin economy of WoW do it. But i will not play it and most of people will do same …
What is funny on collecting 90% of time resources to spend them for make something by one click ? Its fun ? No…Its creative ? No…It waste your time ? Yes.
It ruining economy of game ? Maybe…

Not the professions. The few professions, and only a fragment of their content.
Most of the professions content is just a filler which isn’t being utilized for anything because loot shower makes it useless. Like green items, they exist, but so what if you gear though questing anyway. Blues exist, but so what if you get blues from quests. PURPLE items… yeah, you can get those via quest as well. Even potions to an extent are now farmable, so you don’t need to buy anything unless you are going into high level raid/m+.

The vast majority of professions, and their content, has no actual purpose because Blizzard designed the world to shower players with loot on LITERALLY every corner they take.

Yet here we are with people making crafting orders for others to make their BIS items…

They are not going to fundamentally change how the game works after 20 years. Besides, this would force everyone into being a crafter of their own armor type.

Never has been and thankfully never will be

This is such a weird saying. Then nothing new shall be implemented huh?

I highly disagree. Professions are a key experience with high impact on the game. If they were gone, then so would be gems, enchants, potions, buffood and especially now a lot of valuable crafted gear.

Or any MMORPG for that matter…

BTW Blizzard devs don’t play this game. Lot of them play other mmos where they dont need pay cash…my personal experience…

Profession crafting is way more reliable than dungeon or raid drops. You can customise the stats to what you want and you can upgrade them with materials that drop from the dungeons like you wanted.

The problem with professions is the material bloat and the complexity of the 3/4 talent trees with no refunds. It’s unintuitive and cumbersome.

I can’t help but feel this vibe that you are angry cause you can’t exploit others, and i have zero issues with that. I hate gold diggers.

Sure they do. It’s easy

  • You pick up a profession even though the game doesn’t tell you what it does. But if you listen closely beforehand, you can hear the anguished cries of the Alchemists echo in the streets so that tells you enough to make a choice.
  • Then you go out there and gather, you collect everything you see. Flowers, ores, skins, grass, rotting fish, goblin children, worgen teeth, Garrosh dust, blood elf selfies, Danuser’s used Sylvanas tissues.
  • And then you craft all of that into an iLvL 345 bracer. Ohyea! Only takes 6 hours too. What excellent time value, right? And you can use those braces to get at least 15g! Wowza. Don’t spend it all at once, you richy boi you.
  • Then you gather level two and level three mats. This works exactly like before but it’s more exciting and deep because now they have different icons next to them. Awhyea. High quality Garrosh dust is also great for sniffing if you need a morale boost while gathering. Helps with the rage when nodes vanish upon reaching them.
  • Then you craft all that into the “Bulb of many things”, combine with 3 titan orbs which drops rarely from rare mobs, 5 sheaves of grass from Mulgore, an enchanted draenei hoof - check the black market AH - the tusks of Mannoroth or Invincible, 6 Applecedouszers - whatever those are -, a pattern from M+, soul ash for flavour, 5 piles of gnome trash, pray for inspiration boost and TADAAAAA. You now have a 372 iLvL bracer! Hope you didn’t do mythics before this point!
  • Do this 5000 times and you’ll reach skill 50/100. After that you need to buy mats from the AH, which will set you back about 100,000,000g but it’ll be worth it in the end. Trust me.
  • Eventually you will reach that 100/100 with all recipes unlocked - you spammed the rep grind, right? - and can finally relax and can revel in the mastery you have achieved, the crafting orders will be rolling in any minute now… aaaany minute.
  • Sniff more Garrosh dust in the meantime.

Potions have turned into an absolute joke and I say this as an alchemist. The best potions for spellcasters now only grant bonus stats if you stand still or 5 miles away from raid, which is a rather unrealistic scenario for most boss fights. And you have to waste quite the materials to even get / discover these ridiculous recipes.

The game wasn’t in need of such “creative” but useless potion revamp. Flasks and phials were good the way they were and held 1 h for everyone. Now it’s 30 mins for non-alchies or something, just for the sake of buying and crafting more.

The basic idea of the profession system is interesting but its realisation is horrible and unnecessarily time / mats consuming.

Professions particularly in the last years were fun, because they were one of the few game elements remaining that weren’t overcomplicated by the devs modernization and revamp frenzy. Now they’ve taken that from us, too. That’s it.

I don’t think the professions are useless. Everyone’s talking about it constantly and everyone constantly seems to need it. Trade chat is full of profession workers looking for work. It’s simply a key aspect of DF and i enjoy it.

the usual problem with crafting is it becoming outdated or being easier to get item drops than materials to craft
