WoW is STILL one of their bigger money makers. So putting that in maintenance mode makes zero, absolutely zero, sense.

You only have to read the the way this has been written to realise it is absolute rubbish.
I guess you can sue something that is dead now can you? Sorry State of California sucks to be you. It’s a damn name change that’s all for legal purposes. As far as “much of Blizzard will be sacked”, it’s not like you have not done that before. “But keep in mind folks there is this new company called Insight that is hiring and they need a ton of people” will be whispered at their exit interviews. They should have rather called it Activision Blindside (Blizzard + Insight).
This is a whole new MMORPG so all the stuff (characters, transmog, mounts, pets, toys etc) that you spent the last decade or more collecting in WoW is just all going to be gone. They are not just taking away your Legion Artifact Weapon or your Heart of Azeroth this time, they are taking it all away. All your hard work was for nothing. Will I have a look at the “World of Warcraft successor MMORPG”? Yes on Youtube videos if someone ever decides to stream their gameplay like Asmongold did with FFXIV. Will I play it? I am not sure after this whole WoW debacle. I mean what if I spend another decade collecting stuff and it all gets canned again. I am hesitant to play FFXIV because as a casual player (someone with only an hour or two a day to play) it is represents a time investment of more than a year to get to the end of End Walker.
This is just another sign (big billboard one) that Activision Blindside is not listening to their player base. They are canning a great game with just a few issues like over complicated systems and class locked characters (and Vulpera Druids) that make it suck in favor of a whole new game. So who are they they going to listen too when they make that game? It’s not going to be the player base. They will most like try and steal from all the other MMORPGs out there and wind up with Frankenstein patch job. As for “untitled” it will most likely be “Final Ashes of a New Fantasy World Creation Reborn - you want rice with that (in Chinese accent)”,
9.3 will be the last patch ever for WoW. After 9.3 is released and the estimated
time expansion passes what happens then? Do they just shut the servers down and that is it? Do they leave them on and keep paying for them? Do they merge all the servers into a few legacy ones? I sure hope they transfer all the accounts and characters to a few legacy servers so you can at least have a look at all the “soon going to be worthless” crap we have collected over a significant part of our lives. I mean after all old school Runescape is still going strong. Do you want to tell me Runescape is going to beat WoW?
I have a really cool bridge in the Sahara you might want to buy.
