World buffs is a core part of the Classic WoW meta. Love them or hate them, they’re here to stay, but the way they’re implemented creates unnecessary frustration. Having to be online 24/7 just to catch a world buff drop is stressful, especially when you’re expected to show up to raids fully buffed. It’s really bad on Era, and even worse on low populated servers.
Was online for 6 hours today and still missed the only world buff drop. It’s honestly ridiculous.
Maybe create an alternative to the meta by adding a new raid mode called “Vanilla” where standard world buffs inside the raids are disabled. This mode rewards players with more gold and loot.
Disable world buffs in raid, delete chronoboons, make them tick when offline.
This is the intended design of world buffs. Back in 2004, people did not have this world buff meta. If they got a world buff, then great, if they didn’t, it wasn’t a big deal. It was probably only the top guilds who stacked world buffs. Now even pugs demand you show up with 6 different world buffs. Ony, HoH, SF, DMT(3), 6 in total. Usually rend is optional for pugs.
Hot take, I know. I already posted a similar post in another thread.
As soon as world buffs in raids became somewhat popular/known strategy, they were immediately disabled by Blizzard. This happened in patch 2.1 of TBC iirc. This proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that world buffing in raids was an unintended abuse of game mechanics and shouldn’t be a thing.
I don’t even mind booning my buffs before each raid, but factually it shouldn’t be a thing.
There is youtube videos of the founders of wow.
And world buffs were suppose to be for new players and alts to level up a bit fastee.
However they could have deleted wbs if they wanted too inside raids. But they didnt for sone reason
If wb and consumables get removed from classic most people would probably kill themselves from perspective of having fun instead of toxic min/max with goldbuying
most people will not enjoy playing the game when they lose 20% crit, rage gen almost halved & like 200 SP. Healing would be completely messed up with no pots, runes or mana reg from buffs.
People would become even more elitist as world buffs is a crutch for a lot of people. It’s also a great way to equalize output as it makes gear differences less impactful.
I agree — world buffs are a big part of what makes Classic WoW and raiding fun. I’m not asking for them to be removed. I just think they should be easier to obtain, like through repeatable world buff quests.
Any game designer worthy their title would’ve looked into this long time ago.
Alternatively, there’s another idea I mentioned:
Introduce a new raid mode, called “Vanilla”, where world buffs are disabled inside raids.
BUT — and this is important — this mode would reward players with significantly more loot and gold to make up for the increased difficulty and longer raid times.
Why would people choose it? Simple:
Players are parse horny.
Players are loot horny.
So pick your poison:
Speedrun Naxx with full world buffs this week,
Or choose Vanilla Mode and get rewarded with extra loot and gold.
Let the players decide what kind of challenge and reward they want.
On low-pop or empty servers, I can almost guarantee players will choose Vanilla Mode. Why? Because getting world buffs there is nearly impossible — it’s a constant struggle that burns people out.
And let’s be real: Vanilla Mode will have its own parses on Warcraft Logs anyway. So players will still have that competitive outlet, just without needing to schedule their lives around wbuff drops.
With this mode, you finally get to experience raids — and their mechanics — the way they were meant to be played, without all the baggage of the current meta. It even keeps the #nochanges promise, because in reality it doesn’t change the game more than any other change made.
It’s about giving players options, not restrictions.
