(Blizzard marked solution = a lie)Wow causes whole system to freeze reboot required NO SOLUTION YET! happens on multiple full AMD systems NO SOLUTION FOR 510+ DAYS

I noticed that as well.

but anyway 22.11.2 is now recommended prepare for a storm of users that installed this driver to report system freezes soon if they trust the driver enough to install, i doubt most of them do if they read forums…

The freeze Makhael is describing happens on Nvidia systems too.

Get some footage of it happening and post specs im especially curious if this user has AMD cpu

Also operating system like windows 10 or windows 11 im on windows 11 22h2

To confirm, yes. I use NVidia.

Also full system freeze ? or just minor freezes when opening stuff like tallents /macros any menus etc ?
Cos if had perma freezes on opening talent tree like another user while doing /macros and interface stuff
video settings without aplying anything.
just as it loads in assets for example when i just landed at new area from flying mount bassicly any area you can expect some kind of loading.
And i think talent tree has minor freezes at times cos it loads in stuff.

Makes me wonder if they enabled direct storage but it not being stable, cos nvme is direct storage enabled an normal ssd is not, i do not think direct storage is enabled tho for this game it should be loading much faster if it was enabled.

This could be AMD problem, but I haven’t been able to reproduce your problem on any PCs at work. My home PC got Intel/Nvidia hardware and never get system freeze or WoW crashes.

I wonder if chipset drivers are broken if been highly suspecious of them being broken for a while and thinking its causing driver issues or simply issue that Microsoft created and now starting to reveal it self.

Does wow.exe analyze with a deadlock on an Intel Nvidia system ?

Not a full freeze, no. Just a small 1s freeze when logging into the world, then 1s freeze when I level renown or ‘learn’ a pet or mount. So basically every time that yellow glow comes, it freezes a bit.
It’s weird, cause it legit started happening 2 days ago for me - no changes to system, nothing.

Yeah i have this especially when its generating shaders then after a while it stops or get less but then couple of days later i get full system freezes instead, making me highly suspecious of corrupt shader data and if had that before on my gtx 1080
If you remember when wow had flickering clearing shader data would fix the flickering as well, and there been reports of some issues returning including flickering altho if not experienced that on my 6900 XT yet just minor flickering in 1 specific area tho but that is probably just a graphical bug in that specific area.

If i had to guess why this works for the guy in the video its probably because bad pci-e power saving and if i remember correctly it can downshift to pci-e 1.0 even for power saving so setting a pci-e 3.0 port to 3.0 would keep it probably at 3.0
it does’t hurt testing setting it at max speed since its supose to be on that speed anyway.
I believe some bios let you set the pci-e vision it can downshift to as well altho im not sure how this works what it supose to be doing.

edit: i haven’t played that many hours as i did before no long sessions also restarting game more often since i am on 22.3.1 no system freezes so far from experience this means nothing tho if had no system freezes for first 3 days either, but it feels like something causes high cpu usage with new 22.11.2 driver for me cos i dont have it with 22.3.1 atleast so far i don’t have issue i think there a lot more popping on 22.11.2 as well

Ever since Dragonflight launch I’ve been having trouble with my pc as well.
I’m running a full AMD setup with and RX6800 gpu, R5 3600 cpu and Win 11.

I’m not getting the same system freezes, like the ones in the videos posted in this thread, but a black screen crash where I need to do a hard reset every time. Sometimes the fans on the GPU also starts to ramp up after the screen has turned black.

In my case it’s being specifically triggered by In-game cinematics. A temporary fix seems to be, to change the API to dx11 instead of 12. However I don’t see this an ideal solution…
This only happens for me in WoW cutscenes, so I’m not sure if it’s for Blizzard to fix or AMD.

If gone back to 22.3.1 now and it more and more starting to look like AMD having messed up their gpu drivers and system freezes are probably result of deadlock issue something Blizzard devs messed up that effects every Blizzard game right now.

I have been running on the may 22.5.1 drivers for a week now and its definitely the drivers.
No freezes at all compared to every 1-5 hours on the newest 22.11.1.

Thanks for confirming if you can confirm any newer drivers as well that be nice but i suspect all the optional drivers possibly 22.6.1 and up have issues.

I just had my first gpu driver time out in wow with 22.3.1 this is bad…
Also suspecting PBO right now cos i went back to old bios and turned back on PBO since new bios has an edc bug but i guess the old bios no longer stable on new chipset drivers or perhaps my PBO was never stable and revealed issues time will tell since i am not alone having these issues seem to happen mostly on full AMD rigs.
And i am not sure if other users that report problems also use PBO so perhaps chipset drivers broke something.

I can defiantly recommend making sure PBO is disabled as well if you have system freezes even if your system test stable outside wow and in other games.

edit: i just reproduced blackscreen followed by blackscreen so its partially wow + amd driver related + Microsoft related cos MPO is microsoft feature since windows 8.1

edit: it only took me 1 minute running wow in windowed mode and resizing it like a maniac for it cause system to blackscreen and then freeze permanently because of deadlock no gpu driver recovery at all
not 100% reproduceable however its very random MPO has to be unstable for it to happen, for some reason MPO sometimes get unstable where it causes these issues

ALso cpu usage is a whole lot different when on 22.11.2
I have load on thread 1 2 3 4 light loads on 5 6 and then i have cpu thread 31 at almost 100%
That last thread being at 100% only happens on optional AMD drivers atleast 22.11.2

Cpu usage on last thread is almost zero on 22.3.1 but on 22.11.2 its near max

How can 2 different drivers have different load on GPU ?

Google provided intresting results.

Update i just discovered AMD gpu drivers max frequency limits are broken and ignored
If i set default profile it reports 2250 mhz boost clock but boost all the way to 2555 mhz when firing up doom eternal.
If i set custom default 2479 mhz and then hit apply it reports 2479 mhz in gpu z as boost clock and ignore this limit and boost to 2555 mhz

So appearntly my gpu is overclocking it self since i am watercooling my gpu its not thermally limited so it boost it self probably way past point where its stable so now i am setting it to 2250 hoping it wont ignore max frequency limit if so hopefully i am finally stable, older gpu drivers are also having this bug either way.

Game defiantly has a memory leak issue in vram i have 4,5 gb vram usage after reboot in same area i had 8 to 9 gb vram usage and it seems in dx12 its even worse.

If noticed no one reported having system freezes with windows 10 everyone posted specs posted they run windows 11 22h2

I am testing windows 10 right now

There about 10 users i checked have these issues overwhelming majority all have full AMD systems, with few Nvida cards having same issue and 1 with Intel cpu.

edit: happens on Windows 10 as well

Finally my issue was my GPU. It ended up dying.
I’ve bought a new one and just played for like 5 hours and everything went smoothly.

Double check your GPU, perhaps that’s the problem.

If had play sessions of 15 hours without any system freezes then randomly triggering it again every 2 to 4 hours you need least a month of no issues, if even had 1 week or 3 days without system freezes or crashes before especially on launch with the drivers everyone report being problematic, its defiantly a game issue

Have the same problem!
Totally random whole pc freeze only in wow
AMD 3700x
Radeon 5700xt
32gb ram
Sometimes just videodriver crash, but pc reboot needed, because after crash game wont start(gpu driver error)
all stress tests passed for days(prime95, y-cruncher, occt, linx, tm5, memtest, etc), pc totally stable
