What download servers? The game, and patches are delivered via a torrent stream. Blizzard only host the torrent trackers.
The “Initalizing” phase, is the torrent client built into the battle.net application, loading the trackers.
I have seen this problem for a long time. Every few months, patch downloads take forever, and may not even download at all.
The only solution to speed up the connection is to use a VPN. It doesn’t matter whether you make the VPN point to your own country or to any other country. As soon as you connect to the internet through a VPN, the updates will be very fast.
I’m not sure of the cause, but it is quite possible that there are nodes on certain internet providers that are limiting the connection to Blizzard’s servers or have some configuration problem. When you connect through a VPN, the connection no longer goes through those problematic nodes and the update speed is corrected.
The solution has been posted before and is quite simple.
Set your download speed to a max of 150000000000 (copy paste this into the field) , press apply and restart the launcher.
Fixed.
