That’s not what I said…I never mentioned guilt, I simply pragmatically recognised the fact that many peeps assume there is ‘no smoke, without fire’…therefore a vindication in court by a jury of peers, should be regarded as an incontrovertible benchmark, by which companies remove any sanctions enacted to protect their own reputation, in the egregious court of populist 20/20 hindsight.
While I agree with most of what you are posting, this example is in fact open to legal sanction, under the laws of Slander and/or Libel, if public platforms are used.
Interesting…so, you are capable of understanding the traditional treatment of minorities, it just didn’t bother you much, when you felt you were not at risk?
The change in voice actor just shows that Activision Blizzard will do “damage control” for certain things which aren’t proven to be true to try and preserve their reputation yet completely ignore other issues which their gaming community point out with evidence. They’ve literally given players another reason to dislike them.
‘Are you black/asian/LGBT? Then you already don’t mean much to the people. A white heterosexual person said something bad about you, on top of that? That’s unlucky, because your career is over.’
Yes sure. However because someone is a straight white male does that mean they cant voice anything in regards of discrimination against their “kind” even if on the large scale they are way more unlikely to get targeted by it so their arguments are void? No. Does it automatically mean they are fine with discrimination against others rather than being against it as a whole? The answer it: You cant know it. If hes a hypocrite one can give examples.
And given this topics title it shouldn’t be surprising that people are discussing this topic in particular. And its a problem that people that are cleared by the justice system still get treated in a way that shouldnt be. If one is against the justice system and the way it works then we would have to open a different topic. Or pick special cases where one has reasonable doubt about the final sentence which then can be discussed (like a court rule where nothing could be proven but everyone knows that something smells worse than the local fish market)
That’s the biggest whataboutism possible in this topic. Whatever, yes, i’m capable of understanding the traditional treatment of minorities, as i am part of said minority, so grats, you played yourself on that one while trying to play the white guilt card on me. But since i’m not an american alt leftist that hates everyone who is not part of the same minority, my first thought isn’t that the situation should be completely turned around and now white heterosexual males should be treated that way.
Maybe you are and maybe you are not, this is the interwebz so no-one knows… either way, since we are on the subject, I am part of the white male heterosexual majority, and I am therefore free to criticise them, any time I like…because ‘freedom’ to agree, isn’t freedom at all.
Not for the first time, I will state: Blizz should reinstate Flynn’s work.
Yes, what I meant (badly expressed) is that people seem annoyed about people whom may have speculative ideas about such…not quite libel as in out and out defamation, but where it is known X is accused of Y and people may make up their own minds about that and share it in a weak form…the “wave” on twitter so to speak that you’d be hard pressed to make a suit against (as it may not be people speaking about the case specifically, rather commenting on how cases like this are and what they think)
I’m not trying to argue that people can’t have opinions. I’m arguing that we cannot act upon opinions without any base in actual truth.
Everyone is entitles to have an opinion but people are using opinions as fact and act accordingly.
If everyone just goes: “I’ve heard he’s a bad guy but there’s no proof of it so I’ll reserve my judgement for now.” And everything would fine.
But that’s not how it goes. People are expected to be shunned and punished by society before it has actually been proven they’re guilty.
That’s where my problem is.
If everyone was acting reasonable and level headed with opinions and accusations then everything would be fine.
But people don’t. It might be in our nature but it’s still wrong.
It’s like with Flynn. He didn’t do anything but these accusations won’t go away and will follow him for the rest of his life and everyone will look at him differently.
Why? Because we as a society had to jump the gun and judge him before it was proven to be true.
Accusations are extremly dangerous and never really go away even when they’re proven wrong and shouldn’t be dished out left and right.
And the largest part of the problems ia ofcourse social media and news media that report on and give away waaaaaay too much personal information about cases that should be kept private and within the police until they’re settled.
Related but on a lighter note:
the Hunt with mads mikkelsen is an excellent movie that deals with very subject.
Good movie recommendation if nothing else.
Then the moment comes, where (and all that’s needed is a rumor) they turn on you.
No, not saying all woman do this, but we’re not stupid, and this happens more than you think. It’s quite normal men will get more defensive, also since in court our chances really are lower.
