I’m not going to make much of a preamble but the background to this is that I was trying to complete the WOD assaults for the Securing Draenor achievement. The first quest I tried bugged out on me and I contacted support. Here’s the original ticket and response:
Stuck on quest
Me:
Quest name: Assault of the Pit
Issue: Nothing happens when I arrive in the area. There is no progress bar. The quest doesn’t update at all. I don’t even know what the objectives are. I’ve checked and tried all the solutions on the forums and on wowhead. I disabled all my addons, untracked all my quests apart from this one. I’ve tried just killing hundreds of enemies in the area but I don’t even know if that is the objective of the quest although the text suggests it is. I need to do this for Securing Draenor and Draenor Pathfinder.
GM:
Hello (my real name)
Thank you for contacting us about your situation with the Assault on the Pit quest, my name is (real name) and I hope that this message finds you well.
I’ve checked into this further and I’ve been able to complete the quest for you, as this seems to be relating to the UI changes in the game since Warlords of Draenor was the main expansion.
I hope this helps to clear things up for you and I wish you an amazing time getting the Pathfinder Achievement
Kind Regards,

I logged in and the quest was completed and, ready to turn in so I turned it in and, I’ll admit to be being a little too hasty, resolved the ticket. Trouble is, the acheivement didn’t progess and when I picked up another quest it bugged out so I opened another ticket:
Problem with achievement
Me:
I’m trying to complete this achievement by picking up the dailies form the command table in my garrison. The first I picked up the day before yesterday was Assault on the Pit. I couldn’t progress the quest and contacted you, a GM completed the quest for me but left the quest for me to turn in. When I did, I didn’t get credit in the achievements window. Today I tried picking up Assault on Mok’gol Outpost and the game made the sound as if I’d received a new quest but didn’t add it to my log and now I can’t access the table at all.
I’m not sure how I’m supposed to complete this achievement (which I need for Draenor Pathfinder) if I can’t start/finish the quests myself and even when the quest is completed for me, I don’t get credit for it.
I tried disabling all my addons and abandoning and/or untracking quests and nothing seems to help.
To which I got this reply:
GM:
Hello
There are several quests with the same name and different Id
The ones you need for the achievement are:
Assault on the pit 36489
Iron siegeworks36823
stonefury cliffs 35641
magnarock 36827
everbloom wilds 36814
broken precipice 36817
shattrath harbor 36338
mok’gol watchpost 36819
socrethar rise 36347
darktide roost 35977
pillars of fate 36491
skettis 36070
the ones you have completed are (two ids since both horde and alliance get flagged once completed):
Assault on the pit 36701 36686
Iron siegeworks 36674 36696
stonefury cliffs 36669 36648
magnarock 36697 36675
everbloom wilds 36676 36695
broken precipice 36677 36694
shattrath harbor 36649 36667
mok’gol watchpost 36693 36678
socrethar rise 36691 36680
darktide roost 36692 36679
pillars of fate 36689 36682
skettis 36683 36688
What do all these numbers mean?
(Durrr, I dunno, math is hard. Please help my feeble brain understand what numbers mean)
they mean that to be able to do the quest from the first part instead of the ones from the second part, you need to complete this achievement first:
Once you do, the quests from your table turn into the IDs from above and you can get the achievement, but no sooner.
(Reeeeally?)
I hope this clarifies the issue, until you complete the campaign, it is useless trying to do the extra assaults.
(Stupid useless me, trying to things before other things and NO SOONER!)
Kind regards

Now I was a bit annoyed with the condescending tone where he explains to me quest IDs like I’m an infant and then proceeds to basically call me useless.
But if that’s what needed to be done, I would get the required achievement first. I checked the guide I had been using up this point for Draenor Pathfinder here:
Nowhere did it mention that I needed to complete the Garrison campaign before Securing Draenor and when I looked into the Garrison campaign, it turns out that it takes 3 months to complete (12 quests, one a week) and so I asked on the forums if other players had needed to complete it before unlocking Draenor and it turns out it wasn’t necessary.
I went back into the game and tried to pick up a new assault mission and this time it did not bug out and I was able to complete it and lo-and-behold, the achievement updated. I’m not sure why it was suddenly working again but I was really annoyed with the guy giving me completely misleading information, so I replied:
Me:
I don’t know if this is going to the same support staff member or not but thanks for giving me completely incorrect information.
I didn’t believe that I need to complete the garrison campaign achievement in order to complete securing Draenor because that achievement takes three months and no guide anywhere on wowhead or in this game did it mention it.
It turns out I was correct and my trying to do assaults was not “useless” as you can see from my achievements, I have completed two assaults and got the achievement for both of them. One I picked up from the table and the other from the missives sold by my garrison sergeant.
So the issue I was having, that the assaults I picked up from the table were not progressing or disappearing, was valid. The quests were bugging out and it wasn’t because I wasn’t playing the game correctly or undertaking “useless” activities.
I haven’t done all the assaults yet but if the missions bug again, I would appreciate an actual helpful reply instead of the inaccurate and condescending one I received which could have led me to wasting months on an achievement I can complete in one day.
A little pointed maybe but I was ticked off that I had wasted days on trying to get confirmation that this guy was wrong before I replied accusing him of not doing his job properly…
And this is the bizarro response I received:
Greetings, Eyridan!
Thank you for your patience! Sorry about the wait, our office equipment is goblin made so explosions do happen!
(Okay… I get it. You’re not like those other GMs, you’re a cool GM. Are you going to offer me a little bit of alcohol next?)
If you’re looking for a good guide for the whole achievement, the one at:
is pretty good.
(It’s great, I’ve been using it this whole time and unlike Blizzard Support it provides relevant, helpful and accurate information. You may remember me mentioning using wowhead guides in my last post if you rea… oh I see.)
The main thing to remember for Securing Draenor is that you need to get these quests from your garrison, either the command table or the vendor. You can’t just go to the area and complete it without those quests.
(That’s where I’ve been going wrong my entire gaming life! Expecting quests to just happen to me. It’s time to be proactive and start actually clicking on those big yellow and blue exclamation marks!)
Then it won’t count.
(You don’t say…)
If one of these quest doesn’t work properly you can always let us know.I hope that makes things clearer!
(Ummm…)
