Seems a lot of people are forgetting a very basic rule.
When you play a Blizzard game, you play by their rules. Freedom of speech doesn’t come into it. If you are playing their game and you break a rule they have set. Buh Bye.
If that is uber offensive to you… Well. Irony.
But never mind, here’s an idea. We can come to your house and yell abuse at you and try to deliberately cause uproar. Oh what’s that? I can’t do that? I see.
But then again, it’s the internet, and the internet has always had a very peculiar notion of “freedom of speech”
You know reading what the actual forum post topic is about before actually making a comment would make sense.
This is about twitch not on a actual blizzard game, Enjoy your biased like though because clearly now its about scoring nonsensical points without actually talking about the issue more so making a comment that goes against this post without it even having any relevance to begin with.
The problem is that in my 58 years i have seen society change. What was accepted or even normal, is no longer the case.
Inevitably, cultural diversity entails different groups have different morals. And these different morals are expressed and collide.
That is the reason it can not be. Or, it can, with massive repression where everyone will be tip-toeing everywhere. That wont work in the long run either.
So yea, sounds nice what you say, but we are way past that.
Yes. That’s what happens with culture. It changes. It has never been static. Different generations have different morals and ideas, different cultures intermigle and exchange ideas and values. Losing some, gaining some, over the years. This has happened since the dawn of civilisation and it will continue to happen. Our western culture itself is an amalgamation of previously excisting societies, and on and on and on.
I’m not going to go into your ideas or my ideas any further. I just wanted to make this clear. Leaving this topic for real this time. (I promise)
I didnt say cultures dont evolve.
Dont quite see how you think you can refute the point i made by deliberately side stepping it, while our very opinions here are an expression of that point i made…
Yes, culture evolve, or change and yes that is partly due to external influences. Not going into the details here, bc that is not relevant.
I stated that the polarisation is much too big for any society to handle; I limited it to ‘multi-culture’, bc that in essence is what it is that is that problem. And i did not mean that in the narrow meaning. I meant that broad; as in subcultures that diverge so much they cannot exist anymore together.
Do you really want to argue this has always been the case? The polarisations we have now are:
Racial
Cultural (narrow - as in ppl from other cultures)
Political (we actually had political murders here in NL, which previously we refered to countries that had those as banana republics)
Gender (there never was such a thing as feminism)
Generational
Classic have and have not
etc.
I DID read it. I’ve also been around video games and online games for a bloody long time to know a whiny thread about “sniff… these people won’t let me be a nasty prat to other people” when I see one. By the way. Point scoring? Hahaha. Oh wait you’re serious. Let me laugh even harder.
Bwahahahaha.
If I was interested in racking up a like score on an internet forum like it would make absolute diddly squat to my life I would simply agree with every post.
Still. If an overwhelming desire to hide behind the internet and say mean things floats your boat. Knock yourself out. Just don’t get upset if Twitch, Blizzard, Boots, the Salvation Army or whoever’s platform you are using says “errm. Well no actually. We would prefer you to act like a civilized adult. If that’s beyond you, gerrout.’”
I see the exact opposite. In the past we didn’t have people that would excuse terrible behaviour on behalf of others, we didn’t have people call it freedom to insult others and censorship if that behavior had consequences.
These things all just started recently with the internet age. Now it’s considered “courageous” to insult and belittle others. Look how many people defend otherwise unacceptable behavior on this topic alone.
With regards to the topic at hand. My feeling is that the concern is not so much the censorship, but the feeling that ones actions on one format, could lead to an impact on another.
This is still cake and crumpets compared to chinesse cencorship its ridiculous how bad it is in China i wouldnt be suprised if they censored breathing tbh.
Overwatch is already dead but what better way to piss on its corpse than two corporations enforcing “there’s nothing wrong here, this is a happy and safe place” policy for the sake of cheap PR.
Amateurs I’d say, most likely wouldnt even make top 10 tbh. Eritrea or Syria probably take the cake.
Still, most of the world censors the human body, pretty ridiculous no?
Translating it to wow and games in general, or even more broadly art and life, we assist the situation where due to some assumedly enlightened point of views, nudeness, the most natural condition of a human is somewhat prejudicial for the humanity itself, creating a situation where even depictions of similar morphological shapes are somewhat deemed inappropriate.
Talk about ridiculous heh?
To be honest it is a good thing, one thing the article the YT shown was about how people develop balls of steel and will brazenly use racism and attacks on people because they feel anonymity, nobody wants that, it ruins things.
So they can no longer do that lest they potentially could lose their bnet account.
So to be honest the people who are defending the YT hard are probably people who would be affected heavily, or are the type of people who will try to troll.
Can we please have a full List of Words and catagories we can and cant talk about? I really dont want to lose my entire Library accidentally by saying a ban worthy word or talk about a ban worthy topic.
I think its better not saying anything at all just to be sure no one gets Hurt.
How about, crazy thought here, behave like a reasonable human being, and maybe, just maybe, things like this won’t bother you, because due to behaving like a semi civilised human being you won’t be targeted by bans?
How are people so upset by ONE platform telling them ‘Ok, in these specific channels we share with another company, we’ve decided we’d rather you not be racist.’? Racist just being an example of the things they frown upon in polite conversation, or even heated debate.
Make your point in a calm and constructive manner, then firstly people will be more likely to listen to what you say rather than scream down due the camp you are in, and secondly, you’re less likely to get bans.
Yet again someone that doesn’t actually read whats in front of them, I’m genuinely tired explaining this…
They’re telling you that you’re not allowed to say certain things or use certain emotes without telling you what those emotes are… Like genuinely what is so hard to understand about that, I’m clearly unhappy with the fact they’re putting a separate account from twitch on the line on a different platform that is 1. Dumb 2. pretty hostile and 3. Not telling you what emotes are not allowed let me give you a rule set which is a blank bit of paper and tell you if you break them other things you have that were never linked before are now at risk while you stare blankly at that paper wondering what emotes in your arsenal you’re allowed to use even when twitch has authorised them to be on their space for you to use one randomly and to have your bnet account suspended to even IP banned to even Full discolouration banned. and see how you like it even though TWITCH “ALLOWED” it on their social platform space.
Also I have been calm I have been polite? I’ve been getting flamed consistently by the disagreeing side are you for real?
