Blizzcon Lore Interviews with Steve Danuser & Morgan Day

Him being good as a quest designer, then promoted to that position. Or maybe… He knew someone that recommended him, you know how it is our world. Where connections can land you a job instead of recognizition over your work.

https://www.linkedin.com/in/stevedanuser As you can see here, he was promoted 2 times at Blizzard. He was promoted into a role he isn’t competent in.

He has a Bachelors degree. That’s for 99999% of all companies ever a reason to hire you. It’s the whole “PEOPLE WITH A DEGREE SURE KNOW WHAT THEY DO!!!” situation. Nearly all companies are blinded by it.

It sure is great googling “Danuser Blizzard”, to have the following come up:

  • “Steve Danuser and why his fanfic is wrong”
  • “Steve Danuser’s continous ruining of Sylvanas as character”

and countless other forum threads.

The worst mistake a writer can make, as said by Tolkien, is when you write something and you as the writer manage to kill the immersion and “magic” that the reader is supposed to be in.

The self insert thing with Nathanos being so obvious to a lot of people is so bad. If you self insert, don’t do it this obvious. People recognizing a self insert will always lead to horrible accusations. Danuser took this a step further and made this self insert into a main character with plot armor to Russia. Terrible decision! Even more that people easily notice it.

I too hope he steps down soon.

Certainly can’t beat curve achievement.

When the Eye of Danuser lands on the character it gets ruined. I just pray it stays away from the few decently written females we have left in the game, like Moira.

It’s why I am actually kinda okay with pandaren and pandaria being ignored by Blizzard.

What we stand to gain isn’t worth what we stand to lose, and the former is more likely.

They are very useful in a lot of job sectors.

Creative writing is not one. As hard as it sounds, you either have talent in writing or you don’t. No matter how many years you study or how many degrees you get in writing, if you don’t have talent then there’s no way to achieve that.

I would guess that Danuser is at least in his 40s or so, so his Bachelor’s degree was probably worth a bit more than the paper it’s printed on at the time.

As a night elf main that’s very true! They ignored us for so long and when they brought us back into the story they butchered our protagonists, burned down our capital and had our faction leaders get humiliated by Danuser’s self insert and we have yet to see any proper revenge.

Not sure. Can’t you basically pay your way into universities in the US?

I can’t find his exact age, but he worked on Everquest 2, which came out in around 2004. Let’s assume (hypothetically, for the sake of argument…) it was his first job (unlikely) meaning that he got his degree in the early 2000s.

According to US Census data, in 2000 around 27% of adult American men had college degrees, compared to 35% in 2020. It’s unlikely that Everquest 2 was his first game, though, so… His Bachelor’s degree then is almost definitely worth more than it is now.

No damage to a setting is irreparable. If MoP helped Warcraft lore recover after the cluster**** that was Cataclysm, and Forgotten Realms recovered from 4e, then I’m sure a competent writer can retcon, downplay, or at worst, simply pay no attention to Danuser’s vapid fanfiction.

All the way to graduation even if you’re an inattentive dim bulb. Money talks in the Corporate States of America™.

Promotions aren’t given to hard working and competent people because nothing would get done right or at all in their absence and they would also threaten the position of their superiors.

Most employers will promote the biggest moron around because their work is worth little and they won’t make the bosses look unqualified in comparison.

As I can approve of American stupidity, this is probably the truth.
