I only just noticed the Bloof elf title.
That was like 3000 years ago. Surely, the humans didn’t have sophisticated armor at that time, right?
Limitations of the in game engine. Blizzard went with what would make Thoradin look the most like Sigmar, but without the Sigma(r)ness.

This is how Arathorian soldiers are depicted in art during the Troll Wars, it more closely resembles the human soldiers depicted in the Zul’Aman trailer from TBC.
There are plenty of vrykul who look less barbaric than Thoradin, who instead looks as though he ought to be green and called Warchief of the Arathi Horde.
Huh… the stagnation was way worse than I thought. I always headcanon’d the humans during the Troll Wars looking more like cavemen than anything.
But that was only 3000 years ago.
Yeah yeah, I know.
Just RP as middle class…It’s so much easier!
I mean I RP my Blood Elf as a descendant from this Highborne char, and while Mori here claims to still be a noble(which doesn’t matter in Kaldorei society anyways)… My Blood Elf is just a simple farmer-turned-Paladin-turned-blacksmith now
If anything, he’s part of the peasantry of Quel’thalas rather then the highborn-/noble-caste
Like all Blood Elves, they are descended from the Highborne. I don’t think that automatically confers nobility as such on them though as such due to societal changes and the like.
All of my elves are somewhat related to one another along the grand family tree but my two main Blood Elves are quite distinct.
This is essentially what my Ranger character is. While he’s from a distinguished bloodline, he has little inclination for high society and the whole not being involved with magic or politics kind of pushes you out of the nobility methinks.
Not to mention his father was a bit of an eccentric so most of the big family fortune and influence were left to his aunt rather than him. His Grandfather also married a woman of “lower” social status, meaning that the process of moving down the social ladder has been happening for a while now.
My Warlock(who totally isnt a warlock guys) however is far more in the vein of a classic elven nobleman. Haughty, Pragmatic, Cynical etc. Descended from two distinguished bloodlines (1st cousin once removed on his mother’s side to my Ranger - I have a whole family tree written out) and with an affinity for magic and politics both he symbolised the Quel’dorei, then Sin’dorei nobility ideal.
The thing is, the OP lines out that there would be no social stratification as they’re all nobility. No, there is always social stratification in races that are essentially humans with pointy ears (which is what elves are in the WoW universe unfortunately).
So even if your ancestors descend from the Highborne, that doesn’t mean you remain the same social rank.
In the case of my Ranger, that was five generations ago, and for my Warlock, four generations ago (which I think lines up with elf aging as we’ve seen in lore - Warlock is definitely considered “mature” in his years) and a lot can happen in that time period, even for us in the real world.
Who your great-grandfather or great-great-grandfather was usually doesn’t dictate who you are.
too late
people keep linking me these posts : (
I don’t know why people falsely attribute that argument to me if that’s what they’re doing, given that I’m, y’know, gay and neither myself or my blood elf characters have any interest in women.
Oh that one wasn’t on you, Solbranthius my buddy old friend. It was just an argument that the pragmatic mentality of Blood elves was eventually hijacked for
Fair enough!
I just figured I’d say something since a few people have drawn the comparison elsewhere and sort of blended together different enthusiasts.
Not that it matters now, I suppose. Each time I try to get back into the game I just can’t bring myself to stick with it and drift back to FFXIV or ESO.
It does genuinely please and amuse me that the word became a meme though!
I’ve been saying that for a while, was pretty sure you were openly gay and it’d be a bit weird coming from you of all people.
Some probably probably conflated it with you, but it was always an argument hijacked by the type who hold some particularly views re: minorities, as we’ve seen in recent times during the threads reminding people to lay off transphobia in a setting it does not exist nor belong to and the amount of people crawling out of the woods to specifically call themselves out in public.
“But my character thinks gay relationships are bad because you see he’s just being pragmatic and women should be…”
yikes
As fun as the pragmatism thing was as a meme, it quickly took on a life of its own and became increasingly unironic and as people missed the joke, but I don’t think anyone who genuinely was around for it back then ever attributed it with you, since your orientation was a commonly accepted thing everyone* (I think) knew at the time.

Ah, I see.
It seems a lot has changed then. Not surprising given how much time has passed, I suppose - in some ways, it really does feel like it was only yesterday that I was playing actively, then the reality hits that it was years ago.
A lot of what I’ve heard has been in passing, really. I get linked stuff from time to time on Discord in the vein of ‘REMEMBER THIS’. Then I get nostalgic and show that I still exist.
Yeah. It doesn’t feel like that long ago, but then it hits you like a brick when you make an AD reference and the people around you have no idea what it’s about anymore
It’s been 7 years since 2015.
Also 1980 was 40 years ago.
Shall we indulge in some of the finest classics of the late 1900s, good friend? I believe we have a fine vintage of the young quartet of the Boys who originated from the Backstreet, perhaps the Sync of N. Put the vinyl on the gramophone and let us sample these fine tunes.
Your lack of Spice Girls is disturbing.
Yeah, I’ve bumped into a few people in FFXIV who played here on Argent Dawn but they weren’t aware of anyone I brought up.
My first Now That’s What I Call Music CD was 43.
We’re now on 110.
