Classic Era Chats are being completely overtaken by disgusting amounts of boost spam, or people offering cross expansion gold trades.
Alot of people tell me that i should just install a chat filtering Addon to hide them for myself. Thats absolutely not a solution. First of all, i dont want to install an addon. Second of all, even if i dont see them spamming, they still ruin the experience for new players.
This mentality of “hur dur you cant change it” is terrible and wrong.
We can absolutely change this.
These people must be reported by the Classic community before the game turns into another Retail.
What channels are allowed for what, and where does blizzard define it?
From what i understand, spam (as “report for spamming”) should be used when someone posts the same message multipe times in a row so that it makes chat unreadable (because it scrolls too fast). But that is not what they are doing.
Don’t get me wrong, i dislike boosting just as much as you do, but i want to have solid ground to stand on before i start reporting anyone.
I RARELY see boost spam in trade chat, which is an official wow channel. You must be talking about LFG and World chat channels which are player created channels in era, as in you vokuntariky had to type /join to enter those channels, hell, world channel can even be password protected if a goof gets passed leadership at any given moment.
So in theory, you voluntarily joined a player created chat channel and want to report people in those channels which are not even blizzard official channels? Wouldnt the more realistic solution for you to leave and stick only to trade and official channels than worry about the people in player created channels?
And the only channel that is allowed to be used for selling services, any advertisment anywhere else is not allowed since back in august last year.
“Individuals and guilds selling boost or assistance in raiding, dungeon, or PvP activities for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade Services chat channel. Advertising for gameplay activities should be done by a WoW player-character who intends to participate in the gameplay activities.”
I am very clear, but joining lookingforgroup or world chat VOLUNTARILY is equivalent of all the boosters creatong channel called boost to advertise and you joining it VOLUNTARILY and complaining. Blizzard has little control over player made chat channels so long as they arent breaking the TOS. Boosting on its own isnt against the TOS therefore advertising in a PLAYER CREATED CHANNEL is fully allowed. In era if you wish to not see boosts, you can leave those channels and stick only to Blizzard official channels like general, trade, and local defense. If you join LFG or world you do so accepting it is a player moderated channel in ERA
Advertising is not allowed even if its through /w instead of world or LFG only place its allowed is in trade and it should be mass reported if it shows up anywhere else
The only problem is that this chat is visible only in cities, but boost buyers (especially in classic) are not only in cities, so boosters spam in LFG so that more potential buyers are able to see their message. If blizzard will make this channel visible not only in cities, or make other trade channel that will be visible not only in cities, the problem of spam in other channels will be solved.
