BREAKING NEWS: WoW current subscriber numbers leaked and exposed at GDC event

Oh my god, you don’t see the point I’m trying to make here.

If Blizzard had these numbers, which was shown at the developers conference, there is no reason why they don’t make those numbers public. Especially considering, the general consensus is that the playerbase of World of Warcraft is under 1 million and is on par or just above the playerbase of Final Fantasy for example.

Any company would over the moon about their player count, if it was in the millions.

Hense why I’m saying, the numbers shown are not accurate and thus they’re misleading those at that conference.

I agree, it’s never been a factor so far. Besides even with the guestimate it’s far from the dead game many like to band about.

Oh I agree the game is not dead and won’t be for a very long time. This being due to the length of time WoW has been out and the investment that people have put into it.

It would take something out of this world to make people put all that behind them and move over to another game.

I’m of the opinion the only game that can kill WoW is WoW itself.

yes and no to that statement.

Blizzard would end WoW’s life by creating a WoW2 or for some reason Blizzard disappearing due to massive lawsuits etc etc. But they would sell off the game probably to Amazon, which would indeed kill the game instantly… shiver Amazon shiver.

Personally I’ve played WoW since it was released and even a month on the US release, while I was waiting for the EU release to come out.

I’ve played many other MMOs as I’m sure we all have to take a break from the WoWage. But I’m still waiting for that next WoW killer to arrive and actually be fun & entertaining for more than a few weeks and hope Amazon is not involved… Blue Protocol looked so promising until AGS is now the western publisher

I don’t think another game can do it. People already play multiple games. It’s got to be that Blizzard does something so awful that people stop playing. But that’s just my opinion ofc

All wow gameplay is now replaced by Plunderstorm

the nail in the coffin for me would be a quite obvious decline in content and catering to new generations
an example would be plunderstorm

or a decision to reset all achievements and make a WoW 2 …
i wouldnt bother

like how runescape went from ors to new

riot MMO looks to be the one to do it
league of legends… but an MMO

its the only threat to WoW tbh

I did heard rumours that was getting cancelled, but of course you should never believe everything you hear

That was due to the layoffs but we don’t know for sure what’s happening internally as no official statements were given towards the mmo. We know the mmo department was hit but we dont know to what extent, all concept artists are gone though, big sad

I remember watching a video a while ago, where someone went really into that MMO that RIOT is making and it was really interesting and did get my hopes up as to how it would play out.

But no idea if or when that will be at the stages for RIOT to release infomation/videos on the project. It’s been like 4 years since they announced they were making it and normally they’ve been working on it for a few years prior to that announcement being made.

Normally the life cycle of the development process is something around 6 to 7 years, so we may hear more about it sometime this year or at the latest next year.

Ideally but I’m alright with them taking there time instead of rushing it. In my eyes they need to release project X or whatever that fighting game is called first before the mmo as that one should take less time and it isnt out yet, getting close but no official release date.

Wasn’t that scrapped?

nah its just gone back to the drawing board, its still planned , just reset the developing stage
thats what i read on google anyway

And people thought Blizzard took a long time with their survival IP. From reading the news it sounds like they are starting over, new team the lot. Several years before any news will come out.

I would not be surprised if it launches in the late 2030s and that’s me being optimistic.

with its projected release date being 2030 or later …
i would assume WoW in general would be either dead or finished as an IP at least in this bracket of games

so i think my projection isnt far from the truth… i think the riot mmo will replace WoW

I wish I was paid for every time someone claims some game is going to be a wow killer. None of them are. They never will be.

The only thing that can kill wow is Blizz.

im basing my logic on how as the majority of the subscribers are in their 20-30s at least… some are 40-60
and the steady decline in monthly subs
by the end of 2030 i cant imagine it being any better

as we get older, the game gets less populated
