In SL people complained that it took too much grinding to get a new 60 competitive for pvp. That’s because honor gear had so many ranks and needed a ton of honor just to fully upgrade honor gear. This could have been solved just by making all honor gear start at max rank.
What made no sense though was taking away gear progression for conquest gear as well. It killed the motivation for people to climb, and everyone can see pvp is dying as a result. They took away the main carrot for climbing ranks, and this is about +3 ilevel per rank so it’s not some massive disparity that that the casuals whined about. Conquest gear should go back to being 3 ilevels above honor gear, and +3 ilevel at 1200/1400/1600/1800/2000/2200/2400. If a new 70 is going to complain because the average pvper who has been playing for months has 12 more ilevels then mmos aren’t the game for them.
SL had way more pvp participation than DF because there was gear upgrades for higher ranks.
why do you think that? I would say pvp is fairly popular especially solo shuffle is a big success in terms of participation numbers.
What i agree on is that there needs to be more incentives for people to push rating outside of the 1800 elite set but the solution is not gear upgrades. Atleast not that many.
Its really nice that you can level a fresh char, buy some AH gear and be semi competetive instantly and be 415+ ilvl in one or two days and be able to compete and climb the ladder.
i could use some conquest boxes after watching horde lose 5 bg 3 ebg row on everything to these 10-40man premades and people not playing against them
farming daily conq bonuses on sea of sweat in the armpit of the 10-40man random bg premade abuse scene player while my other chars sitting with +10k conq
and i dont feel like waiting 30min for shuffles as dps either in honor gears to fight some guys with 422 4set and perma stuck on 1k with 2k played as dps
Why so you and your little crew can get paid for boosting people? or is it that you want to buy a boost… Everyone is playing shuffle nowhere close to dying, people say pvp is “dying” every xpac.
I second that opinion. Who is playing arena for gear?
And yes, please, conquest boxes. I have every single piece off the vendor maxed out completely and am currently sitting on enough conquest to gear literally every class/race combination in the game. What a waste. (Hyperbole, its not that much conquest, I still have a life.)
Wait what? People farm daily conq bonus in a premade?
You can climb no problem in blues as a dps. Now if you’re the healer and you’re in blues without setbonus… thats where the fun begins.
But if we possibly have at present, the best pvp equipment system in the entire history of wow. The only thing this system lacks is to put the sl equipment boxes for alters, because equipping conquest right now is a bit tedious, or at least buff the conquest gained in 2v and 3v.
I refuse to remove this system, and if they decide to remove it so as not to put something even simpler, I would possibly stop playing pvp. I don’t want to
farm honor every time I rank up like in SL
I don’t wanna step on anyones toes, but could the reason for your longer queques be that you’re playing prot paladin? Playing fringe spec that can only queque into itself could have an effect.
As for numbers:
I don’t have any to prove you wrong, just as you have none to prove yourself right for your claim of the absence/diminished presence of gear aquisition having an impact on people quequeing.
Best I can offer you is this after a quick google search:
If you can believe this Table, theres around 274.795 Players in… some segment of the ladder.
Of those 274.795, only 61.846 are specs that can queque as healers, Prot paladins included, who have some extra things going on with only being able to queque into other prot pals. I’m legit too lazy to do the math for that.
If you can treat that segment as representative, that only comes to around 22% of those 274.795 being healers, wheres for smooth queques you would need 1/3, around 33% being healers, right? And not even that would be enough since those healers would also need to be in some sort of rating range to even be matched with other people.
Now all of that doesn’t really tell us if theres a link between gearing and people not quequeing, but I assume somethings not right with healing if we have a lack of healers that we can’t even have 1/3 healers.
Gear upgrades would motivate way more healers to queue like in prepatch.
Another problem, lack of gear upgrades is making it harder for people to rank up. Because the way it worked in SL people would rank up, get better gear as they moved higher up, so there would be a natural flow upward all season. With same gear like now people just stay at the same rating all season.
I´ve pushed elite on several characters n i think making gear upgradable is the absoloute worst thing we´ve ever had in PvP. May it never return ever again. The gearing in DF has never felt better than it currently does. No borrowed power, no gear upgrades, no “arthas magical statstick of epic stats” legendaries and no artifact power grind.
The absolute only things i would change with gearing in DF is to make conquest gear always be BIS for PvP, aka no more PvE rings n necklaces in PvP. Raiders dont want PvP gear to be randomly BIS for PvE n we dont want their gear to be BIS for PvP. Simply raising PvP item level when PvP tagged by a substantial amont would be a quick fix to this problem. I´d also like to see conquest boxes return and made into a permanent addition to the game everytime they uncap conquest the boxes should be there every season.
Beyond that i think DF is fantastic, we also see regular balance patches. PvP has more participation. The participation is just in shuffle as opposed to 2s and 3s. That is not PvP dying, quite the opposite.
Healers having a bigger impact on the game would motivate way more healers to queque for sure. Gear upgrades seem to be the smallest concern on that front, if at all.
I for sure won’t heal for gear, I’ll heal when healing is rewarding and I have more options than just healbotting and praying my team kills before I run oom.
I don’t understand that train of thought. It would make it harder, since to climb you have to beat people of higher rating.
What you’re saying here is you want to not only have to win against people who have higher rating (thus are better players than you), but you also want to “buff them” regardless of skill.
Even if that was the case, which I doubt. It’s more that people farmed rival/elite gear in RBG brackets and then took it into 2s/3s, which is not really desirable.
To be honest, if you can’t improve your gameplay and skills, you don’t deserve more rating.
Conversely, your improvement in gameplay and skill are your reward. Is that not enough?
There’s no excuse like (but he has better gear so therefore his rating is better) or (haha he has r1 teammates, if I had…) anymore cause of the bracket.
I liked gear upgrades from rating, you could hit duelist in 2s then go to random bgs and feel like a god, absolutely shredding everyone. Was fun!
But I guess it wasn’t that fun for people getting destroyed so a typical “no fun allowed” blizzard style. Now rating in arenas is pretty much meaningless, I mean, yay I get 1025th mount and 234th bland transmog (every set just big red paint job… how inspiring) recolor, rejoice? What’s the point of even pushing the rating?
Let us buy honor-tokens for the alts aswell instead of having to buy green set, getting slaughtered while farming honor which is mainly just a waste of time since you still have to farm conquest.
