Multiboxing is NOT how the game was “meant to be played”.
It’s meant to be played with other PLAYERS, that is what you seem to not want to accept.
It does not. You are controlling five+ characters, that means there is only one player, and thus, content for X-characters ceases to be multiplayer group content.
You are soloing that content on multiple characters at once, reaping x-times the rewards depending on how many characters you play at the same time.
This is ENTIRELY different than multiboxing. These followers do not receive any loot and aren’t even remotely close the same strength as a player is, therefore they don’t impact any sort of economy, nor make content too easy.
No. Not more powerful. They’re weaker for a reason.
Multiboxing is not how the the game was meant to be played, I fully realise this and accept it, though that does not change the fact that multiboxing allows you to play the game the way it was meant to be played.
You can solo group content with one character, it’s up to you if you want to do that, so why not solo group content with multiple characters? Other players can still play the game, and so the game continues to be a multiplayer game, regardless of how many characters you control.
I can understand how one might fail to see the parallels between bodyguards and multiboxing, especially when so much importance is attached to loot and gold. If you consider gameplay then you might begin to recognise the connection, and from there realise that bodyguards and multiboxing have one or two similarities.
Yes of course, bodyguards are mostly aesthetic, and allowing them to be powerful would take the pressure off of people to form groups. However that’s just as much a part of the game as their power, power isn’t everything you know.
This would go a long way towards dealing with many of the problems that the game has currently, the people who are obsessed with obtaining gold for financial reasons would have less motivation.
Why have this? When you have this:
Surely this alone would prevent any of the gold making benefits of multiboxing.
grow seven arms so you can play seven computers for seven characters without using software to gain unfair advantage, it’s the only acceptable solution. until that moment, play at our same level.
Multiboxers are people too. They have feelings, dreams, desires and aspirations just like anyone else.
I don’t think it’s entirely true to say that multiboxers do not want to play with non multiboxing people, the game puts pressure on the player to find other players with whom to play with, multiboxing is simply a natural reaction to these kinds of pressures. I would be happy to play solo or with random people, but the game is specifically designed to force me to group up.
Most multiboxers use it to get gold once you accept this as the reason, being on a locked realm makes no sense. They will not be able to sell their farmed items, if the realm is locked for movement on and off it then it should also be locked for transmog, pets, mounts and everything else. Nothing on it should be able to move off it to the normal realms.
btw you can still multibox. That is not against the rules now, just using any software to help you is.
Maybe you’re right but not because I want to play solo, but because it’s too much like a job, and less like a game.
If multiboxing is cheating, then playing in a group is cheating too.
This seems to be the common misconception about multiboxing, that the only reason to do it is to generate gold. This is not true at all.
Without any software or streamlining whatsoever, multiboxing with two characters is worthwhile and manageable, any more than that and it’s just not any fun, not worth doing.
As is playing with other players, which is the intent.
Which is also why they’re fully within their rights to ban multiboxing, since it brings more negatives than positives.
You can only solo group content up to a certain point. You can’t solo mythic keystones, while you CAN do so as a multiboxer.
This isn’t a black-and-white debate. It’s not “Single players can do this, so why not just allow multiboxing?”
The problem is that Multiboxers receive the rewards of content x5, x10 or x however many characters they have. This ruins the economy when it comes to materials and gold farming.
That’s why it was banned, since they’re not going to re-design the entire game around multiboxing.
Perhaps but as I said – It’s not about the gameplay, it’s about the effect that Multiboxing has on the game itself. Server economies and such.
I do not agree with what you wrote. Those who do not use multibox they can prevail without this to. But you please use some kind of program and get upset … consequently spit on me because there are players who enjoy the game even without such programs.
Regarding herbing and mining:
feel free to either remove those from the locked realms, or make it so that only one herb/node can be picked up (and not multiples at the same time: limit it to only be picked up by one character).
Sidenote:
regarding the question i got about “You can freely transfere characters to the locked realm, but never from it.” and why: well, after having created so many characters over the years, i would like to keep them/transfere them to the locked realm + it takes a metric ton of hours to setup “multiboxing teams” in the multiboxing software + i have so many custom macros ingame (those are also mostly character name sensitive).
I am still Multiboxing with 5 toons in classic and a 8 Chars in retail (2x4 setup), manually, without any tools or addons.
It’s more clicking and needs more micromanagement effort, but it is still doable, viable and especially still fun.
I play with a “defensive” approach, anti disruptive, I don’t snag others herbs or tag their mobs .
I usually help them, especially in Classic, even the other factions when I watch them struggling with an escort quest and adds.
I got over 50 (!) reports so far from other players but without concequences as I play legit for myself and link them the TOS/policy.
Playing Multiboxing without interfering with other Players procedures and tasks still is no problem at all.
TBH: I am seriously glad tho that the stupid 24, 32, 40 or 48 boxing teams are gone now.
