In Vanilla mail you sent to an alt was kept for 30 days, then esent back to your main, and if not opened, once again returned to your alt and so on forever.
Now it is deleted upon the expiry of the second 30 days period.

Really? I remember just losing them but I could be wrong. Easy to fabricate memories I suppose. I wonder who is right!

Well I remember the same. Suddenly loosing a letter’s worth of pets because they were no more returned. Well … how to check something like this?
A bit of searching: The mail system seems to have had a makeover with MoP. And before that a difference seems to have existed between read and unread mail. With maybe only the last kind being eternally sent back. Very speculative and “Maybe” results … I know.
I’ll try sending from one alt to another one linen cloth and not opening this mail for 30 days on either.
I have gotten a mail with items returned after 30 days because it was unopened by the receiver.

Yes, we all do. The problem is If you had not read it, what then? I remeber it being returned in Vanilla if it was not read 2nd time around, and 3rd and 4th …
I had a mail that expired on my alt the other day and it was returned to my main.
Yes, they do so and have always done. If your main had not read/opened that letter, would it then be sent back to your alt once again? That’s the question.

Can’t say I’m 100% sure, but that is the way I remember it working in Vanilla.
You couldn’t just send something and then it would keep bouncing back and forth indefinitely.
That way you would just be able to use 2 bank alts as a huge “bank”, storing loads of stuff just bouncing between them, without any interaction.
