Just saw on the latest Taliesin and Evitel vid that the waterstrider mount will no longer walk on water without special enhancements that you will need in 8.2 water walking shoes once you get past level 100.
I really do not support this as I remember the grind to get the water strider and it has been a pretty useful mount. We should not have to spend money or craft items to use something we have had for years now.
I hope that this is just on the ptr and changes later.
The item disappears once you remove it as you will need other enhancements for your mounts. I earned my strider back in MOP via the anglers, which was just as grindy. So you will have to either buy it again or craft it again if you have the profession to craft it.
But this is another example of WOW removing something that people find pretty useful so they can spread the grind out. Remember we have a water zone coming in the upcoming 8.2 patch, a strider would be useful. Yes we will have pathfinder 2 to fly but we will have to grind some rep and do a few other things to get it.
And we will have to explore these 2 new regions. The strider has always been useful if you do not have flight points to explore areas.
I know it was nasty grind so i hope this changes in PTR because right now iam lsot for words .I thought the idea was to make all mounts water walking via a slot ?
It is on WOW Head too:
“Patch 8.2 Rise of Azshara includes many new mounts and an upcoming Mount Equipment Slot. Unfortunately, it’s not all good news, with the Water Strider Mount having its passive waterwalking removed.”
A small clarification to our plans with Mount Equipment–
Hitting level 100 on one character will unlock this system. Once unlocked, the system will be available to all characters, and the equipment pieces themselves will require level 20. If your goal is to have waterwalking while leveling, you can just enable the waterwalking Mount Equipment (there will be one available via Anglers reputation that will be bind-on-account), and it’ll work exactly as before, with the benefit of making all of that character’s mounts walk on water.
But there is still this nerf:
" Water Strider Nerf
Because of the dominance of Water Strider, they are removing its ability to walk on water according to T&E. However as Blizzard clarified, if you have the mount equipment system unlocked, you can use the equipment on level 20 characters.
T&E announced that if you have a Water Strider on 8.2’s launch, you will get a free [Inflatable Mount Shoots] item which lets all your mounts walk on water. In addition, if you head to the vendor where you bought a Water Strider, you’ll be able to buy more of this item for a greatly reduced price as an advantage for those who already have the Water Strider."
So you will still have to buy this item as there are other enhancements you will need on the mounts as you cannot have more than one at the same time, as there is only one equipment slot and the item disappears as you take damage, so you will have to buy it again:
" * Saddlechute : Equip in your mount equipment slot to install a emergency parachute that will deploy when dismounted high in the air.
Inflatable Mount Shoes : Equip in your mount equipment slot to allow you to walk across water while mounted. Any damage will cancel the effect.
Comfortable Rider’s Barding : Equip in your mount equipment slot to prevent you from being dazed while mounted"
I probably will not use those slots but the point is, if you take damage while water walking on any mount the item is gone and you have to buy it again. Same if you accidentally remove the item, you buy it again. How longer before this is deployed to flying mounts or regular ground mounts?
can you show me where this has been said please as in one hit and its gone as thats not how other barding has worked in past .Iam not calling you a liar i just want to see it .
I agree to me it should be in the form of a toy that is character bound and something you have to earn in game, but there is no reason to take the strider away, as it is pretty useful until one gets flying anyways, in Nazajtar, Boralus, and this upcoming new zone in 8.2
