IIRC in tbc rogues became quite good at dodge / avoid tanking.
So I was thinking, could a rogue in classic dodge tank, could that be a thing?
Quite like the idea of having a character that can avoid melee damage pretty much altogether due to dodging, just think it could be a fun spec but is it possible?
could a classic rogue get close enough to 100% dodge?
I donāt think itās viable really, but iām sure a forgiving guild wouldnāt mind you trying. The biggest concern will be threat and taunting. I expect you would be gearing and speccing for dodge which of course hinders your total damage and your damage is your only threat generator. The next issue is having no taunt whatsoever - if you lose the mob, thereās nothing you can do, besides what you were already doing to get it back. You can only generate AOE threat once every 2 mins too
Rogues were known as the 10 second tanks to finish the boss on 1% hp The MT died, usually switched to a warlock who would run to the boss and die, then to a rogue / warrior. Rogues would pop evasion and pray for a string of lucky dodges
I agree on trash think the rogue would really struggle, but then again trash seems to die nice and quick anyway and I bet many trash fights you donāt even need a tank
But on boss fights, I wondered if dodge tanking could work, just thinking out loud really, no idea if the items exist in classic to get 100% dodge.
I enjoy messing with strange and wonderful class ideas, that might be niche but fun, also if you could get to close to 100% dodge would that mean soloing non magic stuff would be easier, to farm for fun?
Think I need to do some research and roll up a night elf rogue 1% dodge bonus as a start hehe, be interesting to see how close you can get to the magic 100%.
Probably not, no.
And thinking of healing a rogue ātankā makes me cringe. I bet the incoming damage would be so hard to predict because you either dodge and take 0 dmg or get absolutely smacked around.
No inbetween.
It seems 100% avoidance is reachable with consumables and raid buffs. No Evasion or Ghostly Strike required.
I remember in TBC people were able to tank Gruul with very high level gear. AoE was not hard to avoid there so the main challenge was having enough DPS to kill the boss before the enrage buff was unhealable. With 100% avoidance that concern was gone.
edit: I just noticed someone beat me to it posting a Gruul video
