Can I just have the old models back?

Only reason my priest here isn’t undead is because the new models are not that great imo.

On certain races I prefer them, but I really miss the old Undead models… A LOT.

I am aware that certain animations aren’t working with the old models, but I’d much rather have my old Undead model back and also NOT look like a void-corrupted plastic bag flying through the air. Is it that difficult to just implement the old animations with the old models back? The old animations still exist everywhere in the game, and no company of this size would just toss aside old versions.

I am also aware that certain npcs wouldn’t work with the old models, but then just make it so your own playable character is affected by the change

I can’t go back to the days of Cata and MoP when I started playing the game, but at least let me reminisce by seeing my old character in my old transmog. Please?

I feel for you. I think the updated undead models were largely a downgrade.

You’d be surprised. Apparently they are recreating the old models and old animations for vanilla WoW. Why would they do that if they had had the old models stored in a cache somewhere?

10/10.

I mean if they can recreate the models for vanilla they should just be able to put those into bfa but what do I know? I don’t work for one of the largest gaming companies in the world smh.

Wasn’t there an option that allowed players to play with the old ones? I’m pretty sure that atleast during WoD that option existed because i found it into the in-game options, but i’m not sure if it still a thing

There -was- yes

Hence the creation of this post : p

Their reasoning for removing them was that “all these new animations we’re doing, we don’t want to do them for the old models”.

Terrible reasoning, I get old skeleton rigged characters with toys pretty frequently and they seem fine, there really was no good reason to deleting the option.
Just don’t update them with the new animations and let people play with the old ones if they want to.

What’s the difference to undead now and before? As a non/undead player they look pretty much the same.

The only thing that has bothered me was the change to the blood elf casting animation. If you use to cast a buff type spell, like renew, the male blood elves used to have a lovely flowing casting animation, and now it is anything but, it feels quite rigid. It’s a shame and never saw it documented anywhere as to why it was changed.

I know exactly where you’re coming from with the belf animation, man.

I think it’s hard to really explain the Undead changes. Personally I liked the old faces better, the old hair was better. But I believe that the old Undead models were skinnier and armour looked a lot better on them. If you create an Undead Priest and just watch the idle combat animation you’ll also want to bleach your eyes.

In reality it’s just subjective tbh

Alsooo, while I believe the old Undead models looked better, nostalgia also plays a huge part in it

I always play female characters and the undead ones are def not much of an improvement over the old models. Plus I cant stand the run…well, the skip…the happy, bouncy little skip like they are running through a field of daisies. sigh
(and yet ironically female gnomes now look like 50 yr old depressed librarians…which I find to be an improvement!).

BFA (and Legion) uses a number of custom animations that were simply not possible to achieve with the way the old models were rigged, and if it were, it would have created a lot of double-work and duplicated effort between the old models and the new. I believe their reason to get rid of the option to use the old models was purely technical.

I get your dissatisfaction with some aspects of the new models. Overall they are an improvement, but some of them have seemed a bit off from the start. But suggesting they can simply just reuse the old models in the current game is sadly not really going to work from both a technical and resources standpoint.

Also, you can’t simply just throw more money at a problem to make it better. That has been tried by many companies with deep pockets, and it often results in teams being less cohesive and a product having lower quality as a result.

Right, yet there are a looooot of people (especially in the pvp community) using 3rd party programs to get access to the old models yet keep the current animations without any gamebreaking issues what-so-ever.

You’re not saying 1 guy managed to solve this issue all by himself all alone in his basement, right?

Also a quick edit.

As I said, I don’t want blizzard to put in extra work for these old models with newer animations. If you want the new animations use the new models. I am more than fine with using the old animations if I can get the old models. And as I also previously stated, if it creates issues with the residual world, simply have your OWN character model change to the old one whilst keeping everything else the same.

Very blizz-like response, really .-.

Improvement or destruction is in the eye of the beholder.

My point is that when they removed our original models, they betrayed their commitment to re-create them, instead leaving us with unrecognisable changelings.

Chris Robinson originally promised in the original Artcraft blog statement:

With the revamp, we’re completely overhauling every aspect of the player models, but our goal is to do so while retaining the core look and feel that has always made them your character. We’ll feel like we’ve succeeded if you see the updated version of your character and it still feels like you’re looking at the character you’ve been playing for the past however many years—only someone has finally focused a lens.

They didn’t do that. They didn’t even try. No professionals could be so incompetent as to make so many of the replacement characters so different without actively planning to screw them over.

But the old models still work with the current game. The boss shapeshifting toy has lots of old model animations that feel VERY playable, not to mention noggenfogger and the timeless isle toy that both work just fine.

Model/Anim preference is all subjective, but taking away the option for the old ones after WoD is an objective downgrade. There’s just no defending that. It shouldn’t even take substantial dev time/resources, the option was already there previously!

As a melee, I think the male Undead models are an upgrade from the old one.

If I was a caster, I would be pretty annoyed, they messed up with the casting animations.

I’m sure back in WoD there was still an option in the interface to use the old models. They took that out pretty quietly, I heard nothing of it. When did that happen?

I am somewhat uncertain, I recall being able to still use the old models some time into Legion, however others say it happened sooner. My memory is however known for being garbage soo

I believe the final nail in the coffin was with the release of the BfA prepatch for me.

As to why? Because some of the newer animations weren’t able to replicate over to the old models… and they didn’t want to put in the effort to have new animations on both the old and new models. The issue however is that no one that I know of, has ever asked for new animations with the old models… And with certain toys that make you adopt the appearance of an older model, most of the new animations work fine, and the ones that don’t are simply replaced with the older version for the same animation.

Honestly clueless as to why Blizz would’ve done this.

I’m so sorry to sound this rude and/or break it up to you, but I despise certain requests. Old models suck, they aesthetically cripple the game like a vast majority of game content from previous expansions.

Not to forget that World of Warcraft still doesn’t even dispose of a ragdoll physics mechanic integrated in game, it being the king of MMOs in 2k19.

I already find it pretty insultive the fact that they downgraded everything to zero for those disghusting Classic servers…

You just sound sad, my friend.

You are well aware that when you could still change back to older models it affected no one but the person who wanted the old models. Everyone else still had the newer ones.

Either you’re disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing or you’re insanely spoiled and probably dropped .-.

Sorry to break it to you : /

You are the one whining about your terrible old models and yet he is sad?

While I don’t condone the tone, the person he’s replying to is “sad” because what we’re asking is an OPTION for the old ones, not the removal of the new models. A client side option at that!
If you don’t want to see the old models, you don’t have to.

If we had an option to use the Chinese undead models I would play undead more. The way the joints are always on show is kinda creepy. I know it’s a magic game but how can they move with no tendons?
