Can MDI ever be made interesting? I think not

First I wanna say that Im quite a big M+ fan. I’ve been pushing M+ since legion, doing keys above lvl 25 in both bfa and legion. I also enjoy watching teams pushing on their streams etc.

But MDI is just so boring to me, it was fun for the first couple of times, but now it became super boring for me.

I usually find the VOD next day and just find matches that are at least somewhat interesteting; good teams against eachother. And then I just click through the VOD a bit, especially after 1 team makes a mistake match is generally over already, so its just clicking next until the next match.

I go through 6 hours of vod in 30 minutes or less, I cant imagine watching whole 6 hours ever again.
Casters are not really interesting either, but cant blame them really as you cannot make the same run interesting for 100 times.

What are your views on MDI? Does it have any future? Even competitors are leaving it since its not worth their time.

It was more fun in legion. I remember a team that didn’t use a healer for certain dungeons at least.

It’s too predictable, too chewed out, too researched, too static.

Force them to swap out tanks and healers, put up dynamic restrictions or just blacklist some specs/classes/combinations/items/covenants/…, just something to make it more dynamic without making the dungeons themselves more RNG reliant.

Then for the love of … fix the UI when actually streaming the games and keep it consistent. How hard can it be.

MDI in general is only interesting (interesting, not fun, and even then not for everyone) when the comp includes a class/spec you play, so you can relate, watch and maybe learn something
If the meta makes every comp the same (thankfully not the case) then it’d technically only be interesting for 5 specific class/spec combos

Most intteresting was in legion where they put seat of triumvirate into the pool…it was wipefiesta because teams didnt had 1000 runs of that dungeon in tournament realm.

I think mdi needs more unpredictability, more unusual afix combos…higher keys…or super low keys…idk something that made them wipe more and more class combinations etc.

Nagura made a video about this recently.

It is fun for the viewers but not fun for the players themselves :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It is extremely boring for viewers to watch.

It could probably be more interesting, if teams pick the combos for opponent instead of themselves.

Not really if you ask me, dungeons are not really viewership attracting content, I can’t really get why people watch WoW streamers either.

Do this:

Atleast more players will watch because they will wonder how top competitors will playing their class.

MDI is good, when you need to cure sleeplessness for sure.

I’ve said for a long time,

The MDI needs bans on repeats to make it more interesting. It also probably needs random affixes so the competitors don’t know what they are facing weeks in advance and have to adapt.

To the ban on repeats, what I mean is if you have a mage in dungeon 1 you’ve used your mage and can’t use it in dungeon 2. I don’t care about the “b b buuut its a raaaace!” train of thought. Almost all races have some kind of artificial rules in them. This will force more representation and allow the sheeple to see that off meta specs rock in the hands of the best players. Blizz need to start managing how the community perceives specs, this starts here.

The random affixes is so that you can see how teams adapt. At the moment we’re getting an exhibition of pulls that they’ve probably practiced hundreds of times. The only time it goes off script is if they screw up. Thats boring.

As others have said, the MDI only becomes an interesting spectacle when people screw up and its so on the rails thats unlikely.

tl;dr you need to throw unpractised stuff at players and see who comes out on top, that will be entertaining to watch. It’s an utter snoozefest atm and you can tell that by the viewership.

I quite like my current job so you can’t hire me but I’m sure we could arrange a paid consulting job Blizz

Nothing what will Blizzard do will make MDI interesting. WoW is mmorpg. This is not type of game suited for esport and never will be. Worst part is that Blizzard keep designing their dungeon content around it.

They cant make their esport games (Overwatch) interesting to watch and they pushing it on game what wasnt designed for it at all.

force them to play a demonology warlock :stuck_out_tongue: i’d watch for that :stuck_out_tongue:

All im seeing is force them to do this, force them to do that, force them to do the dungeon blindfolded with wii controller while juggling knifes.
Anyone wondered why players are quitting mdi? Its not worth investing the time for little to no reward. Wasnt it lightee quitting and saying that he can make more money while streaming poe than winning mdi?

Mdi is too stale and there is too much of it. One cup per season would be enough with little preparation time and increased prize pool. Then you can ask for more ridiculous things like playing survival hunter or demo warlock.

Remove WoW esports. Esports have no place in mmorpgs.

The more things are “forced”, like banning certain comps or specs and actually making the affixes random, the less you can actually prepare. So in the end this would be a win-win?

Not knowing which affixes in which dungeon with what possible specs, what is there to prepare then? Just the ability to adapt quickly.

Doing nothing will just make it bleed to dead slowly anyways, any suggestion is better than just continuing as it is.

Better idea, teams constantly play +15 but every match opponent team choose 1-2 additional affixes to deal with.

Watch some interviews. It was discussed. The guys just said that they will prepare for everything. If you introduce banning specs, they will prepare 3 different specs. If you make affixes random, they will prepare for the most different combinations.
This suggestion will just burn out players and will do nothing to change meta. If players will get to ban specs, they will ban whatever they are not prepared. If we get to ban specs, we will ban fire mage, they will bring unholy dk. And then we will be back here again complaining about mdi being stale.

It’s not something that has ever interested me. From what I’ve seen on twitter the feeling seems to be that it was more fun and more amateur to take part in during Legion and now it’s all Hardcore and takes a lot of time and dedication for teams to run.

So what is your solution? Keeping it an absolute borefest is honestly a disgrace for the viewers, for the hosts and for the players themselves.

Just pruning it, to stay in the WoW methodology?
