Can people be permanently banned for language?

Like if one person gets reported by many different people for worst possible language and abusive behavior one can think of.

If not, they should, cause that might be the only way to get rid of these kind of people - And by statuating some examples for a short period others will think twice before they abuse other players like that.

Today i pugged a +12ML on my Blood DK alt that i am currently gearing up, wish i didnt. Now we timed the run and all that and i got a couple of upgrades, but gosh, this behaviour from one particular guy…

This DH was being kind of toxic from the start, with vague toxic/elitist comments (You know the type) but everyone was performing quite well and i guess thats why he didnt come out of the closet.

Well, that was until the other DK in the group accidentaly pulled an extra pack of mobs while running away from quaking affix and died.

DH: < snipped >
DK: “Relax” (At this point DK was combatressed and we took down the packs)
DH: < snipped >

He went on like that for 5-6 lines more and the other guy just ignored him so did the rest of us.

Then we went on for the third boss and the mage misplaced himself in the beginning of the fight and got oneshotted, and the Havoc DH litterally went havoc in the chat.

DH: < snipped >

Mage: “Actually ive recovered from cancer but thanks anyway”

DH: “Hahaha to bad u did lol” etc etc. We all reported him and informed of it and he got quiet.

I dont know if the mage said that just to scare him and calm him a little bit, or if it was true, but it doesnt matter, it could easily have been true as cancer is quite common. And anyway true or not doesnt change this guys behaviour.

Personally my opinion is that one event where someone speak like this should result in a permanent ban. Ive heard about many people speaking and abusing like this and ive seen some myself, but the worst penalty ive heard they have gotten in modern day WoW is a silence ban.

Back in Vanilla i remember people getting banned for this kind of behaviour. There should be absolutely none tolerance and people should be thrown out of this game after their first reported and documented offence like this.

Note that im not speaking of “General toxicity/elitism” but straight forward abusive behavior where people are calling other people bad names, referring to diseases, intelligence, race, bad things about peoples family etc.

Probably not, but if someone thinks that’s an acceptable way to conduct themselves…

It’s difficult for me to articulate just how I feel on that without veering into absurd draconian punishments, I honestly think that being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk should be punishable.

No, you can’t be permabanned for being a silly person.

No~ unless he will say that to one specific resto shaman.

Thats a couple of levels above just being “A silly person” if you ask me.

People have been banned for racism, imo gloating over someones cancerdisease and wishing rape and death on familymembers aswell as other player is not in any means better, and its not just being a silly person.

My point of view at least.

I know the common reply is grow a thicker skin, it’s the internet etc, but why should someone need to toughen up, when the other option is the person could just not act like an utter degenerate drain on humanity. These threads tend to quickly devolve into extremes of your advocating for censorship or violating their human rights (yes that has happened.)

There was a thread a few months back where we had some paladin going to the lengths of there was no law where they lived that explicitly forbade them from being as abusive and vicious as they possibly could be. Which is really pathetic.

Using stronger words than “silly person” can get you banned from the forums, quite ironically.

Pretty sure what I’m about to say is true in most cases, not just language.

The first ban will be a temporary ban, and if the person keeps getting banned for the same reason it will be for longer periods of time. Until they decide there’s nothing more to be done to stop said person from behaving the way he does and so he gets a permanent ban.

Saying “Toughen up” as a reaction to bringing up a topic about someone wishing rape and death on their family members and laughing about cancer and “loL KEK to bed u didnt die form it lol kek” is a way to defend such behaviour.

Letting such things go has got nothing to do with being “Tough”- And saying them doesnt make anyone tough.

For 16 years ive been working as a paramedic in a capital city. Maybe these people dont know what they are wishing upon others for no reason but i do know personal tragedies in all shapes and forms, and it is not beautiful.

Im not gonna type how i would confront such person if he wished it upon me and my family members. But i guess its easy to be a tough guy on the internet.

I’m not sure what would result in a perma ban outside real life threats but some of what you say here is disturbingly close imo and you did right in reporting.

The only real thing you can do is report and stick them on ignore. Once they are on your ignore list you won’t be grouped with them again and if enough people ignore them then they won’t have an easy time getting groups for content so are (in theory at least) only shooting themselves in the foot with their behaviour.

Blizzard should be more proactive in dealing with that kind of behaviour though, not just a silence but a ban from game even if not perma although I doubt people who act like that would change their behaviour anyway sadly.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you entirely. I think the grow a thicker skin is a pathetic cop out.

It’s genuinely sickening the lengths some people go to in order to try and defend atrocious behaviour.

Ive been silenced for less a couple of times the last weeks. Only reason was arguing against a known troll who reports everyone who disagrees with him.

Was it a paladin by any chance, with some very strong anti horde views, and a small army of clones?

Preventively effect is what that would generate. Rumour spreads fast, and many people would hopefully think twice, while many others would just continue.

Indeed it was.

Sadly the ignore function works so “well” that the ignored ones can still queue up for the M+ groups you create, so you will have to keep track of them yourself.

If we’re talking about how to deal with them then it’s report and block.

I’m not saying you should just grow a thick skin, but taking their bait and stooping to their level isn’t good either.

Blocking not only prevents them from communicating anything to you but also prevents you from getting mad at what they might be saying otherwise.

It’s something I think any one game/company can’t deal with alone. Now if every company involved with online gaming took a hardline stance on that kind of behaviour, then they’d have to either control themselves or find something else to fill their hours with.

As even if say blizzard takes a 0 tolerance stance, there’s a multitude of other games for them to do the same in, so nothing is really solved.

Didn’t realise that :woman_facepalming: wtg blizzard then. In theory the ignore function should work like the old days black listing in classic but obviously that’s a huge failure.

Im not the “Abused one” in this case and a thick skin is a basic need in my line of work in real life, so thats not the case here.

Ofc we all ignored him, and reported him - But for what? For what i know he got 20 other alts and ignore function doesnt work account-wide, and theres also a limit how many you can ignore.
