The amount of people in the past I have had make comments about my life or family, because of something not going smoothly, when they don’t have a clue some of the hardships that I had to go through.
But at the same time, I will switch off from these comments, they mean nothing to me or have any affect on my life or the people in it. After all it’s someone you never see behind their computer. I have got a pretty thick skin too.
People like that you put on ignore list quickly, even if it’s a pug run, so you don’t get involved with it.
Also, I don’t believe it should result in a perma ban, that is just causing misery.
What that kid needs is better parenting if you ask me.
Permabanned? they don’t even ban people once. I have made many posts about this, they don’t care about language, you can however be banned for insulting people.
I mean it’s more likely that you’ll run into other toxic people or other alts than running into the same people so clean up your ignore list every now and then if it becomes a problem.
Not saying it was me, of course, or that it actually happened, because one does not discuss bans, as that’s… bannable >.<
But hypothetically there may have been a death knight that got banned for jokingly bantering with a friend and calling said friend a word that means the opposite of smart; that may have been highly inappropriate language and the moral of the story may have been that any word stronger than “silly” would be unsafe, if hypothetically people would go out of their way to take offense and flag.
Why not? If a person, kid or grown up, goes way over the line there will be consequences.
A kid might get curfew, taken away internet/mobilephone, and in serious cases involved with child services and maybe even police.
A grown up person, could face legal consequences for these kind of comments, in alot of countries.
Why should their behaviour be allowed to pass by? It sends one signal: What you are doing is OK, we will not do anything about it and continue if you like.
There is a big grey-scale between letting it pass by and perma banning after one offense.
Since you did mention legal consequences, those are not just there to discourage potential misbehavers. They are also shaped in a way to minimalize the chance they repeat the same mistake after the initial offense. How can you learn from your mistake if the punishment is permanent?
Of course it’s not ok but at the same time I simply do not care about such comments. They have no impact on my life and those people most likely lead very sad lives. Life is too short to waste it on stupid people.
Well permaban after repeated offences on the same level would be a huge step forward. In my opinion when language is on a certain level that it would most likely be punishable in real life there should be a perma ban.
Well one cannot ban a human being from society unless its lifetime in prison for murder etc. and even then most people get released at some point.
I get your point. And im not saying one should be permabanned for saying “Re ta rd” to someone one ot two times, you get the point.
Anyhow a 1 week ban to begin with and then increasing if repeat would also help, its the same principe.
Worry about yourself then. Doing nice deeds to people around you is a beautiful thing to do but on grand scale of things you have no impact and you will never save the world.
You cant be game-banned for abusive language. They just silence your account and you cant chat, inv ppl to a group, post in the forums. Im experienced silencer hehe First it starts with 24 hours, then a week, month, two… etc. Maybe perma-silence but not game-banned.
Haha, who was talking about saving the world? You know its a forum right, no one have a huge impact on anything ingame, still we share our opinions and so do you.
Nah, when someone starts getting banned for real abusive behaviour it sends out a message to likeminded people, and in the end preventing such.
I know a guy who was bullied in school, school didnt do a thing, “Oh lets have som dialogue” "Oh poor bullies we need to talk about it " was teachers and grown ups response and bullies parents “Oh my kid does never do nothing wrong”
He got a new stepfather. A kickboxer, who taught him some moves. One day he got tired and beat the crap out of the main bully. Bullying stopped.
I think on the first outburst you should have left the group with apologies to the others, and I think the other three should have done the same.
But it seems we care more about the M+ and less about the humans at the other end of the chat, or the bots in some cases, and so we pretend we didn’t see.
Using the regular report function might get them silenced, but I know people have been given temporary suspensions when you actually submit a ticket and speak to a gm about it.
While the person you dealt with was definitely a cretin, I’m still reluctant to advocate a perma-ban for a first offense unless it is something like a serious irl threat. In my own humble opinion I think a month ban would be more appropriate here, but it’s not up to me of course.
If you honestly think that players that call you retarded are going to suddenly become pleasant to play with just because they can’t say it any more, you are kidding yourself.
