Not every class should be the same, it fits the class poorly to tank with a 2h weapon, I do think 1h is just fine whatever we tank with 1h or 2h we will still be balanced around whatever so it wouldnt make a difference in the grand scheme of things.
Whilst we are at it, why not let DKâs tank using shields? And monks? and druids?
Class identity is a thing, no point watering it down even more.
I really donât get why you would put your warrior aside if they could tank optionally(!) with a 2-hand and you still could tank with a 1-hand if you prefer for your class fantasy.
I really donât get it. From my PoV, you and others are against the option of choice for players, something RPGs actually rely on to be a good game.
Let us say for a theoretical moment you could tank by your own choice with a 2-hand if you want and if not, still use the old reliable 1-hand + shield combo.
You could still run your beloved 1-hand + shield for your characters class fantasy. I could run my beloved 2-hand for my characters class fantasy.
What makes you so upset and against this change? That others might potentially pick a 2-hand over your beloved 1-hand + shield on their character?
Sorry, but other players characters arenât your concern and so far, this is the only logical reason I see why you are against this idea.
The entire time your responses were your opinion expressed as âit would ruin the class fantasy for meâ when it really is âI wouldnât like to see other player characters run around with weapons I see unfit for the classâ.
Because it would require a full rework of the character. It would need to have separate versions of skills essentially making this a 4th warrior or Paladin spec.
Then other classes would want new specs and would spiral out of hand. I now want DK to use a shield and a 1h so thats another new spec. I want my mage to do nature damage so thats another new spec, you see where this goesâŠ
It is not needed, if you want to tank with a 2H you chose a death knight, if you want to use a 2hander on a warrior you chose arms.
Also as far as i have seen this is the first request for a warrior/pala 2h tank spec so it does not look like its something that is being called for by the general player baseâŠ
honestly two handed tanks in fantasy just irks me not to bring realismen into it but how are you blocking magic, arrows and explosions with your dingy two hander specially for a none magic class like warrior itâs just meh
even in FF 14 only the Paladin has a good tank image of being a sword and board every other tank has no protection other then their over sized e pen compensator
This tbh.
If it was up to me, paladin DPS spec would use a shield and have various bashes and spells that use it.
I am happy with my shield one hand sword and for ret two hander.
Again, for Warrior maybe, but not for Paladin. Paladin has only 2 skills that require a shield to be equipped. Every other base skill works completely universal and independent from wearing a shield.
Because very few players use game forums in general. The average Gamer doesnât even use game forums these days. They use Platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, etc. to exchange ideas and thoughts with each other and devs.
We Warriors and Paladins wear Armor for a reason. Or do you wear yours just for show?
Technically, if we got by hardcore Paladin âclass fantasyâ, a Paladin wouldnât even have a DPS spec in the first place, because that goes against every idea of a Paladin being a strong defender of the weak.
WoWs Retribution Paladin is one of the very few exceptions I know in Fantasy Genres that have a more straightforward, offensive style of engagement with combat and their identity.
but its not there for the skill its there for the block and damage reduction the skills are just you using your shield for more then its original purpose
heck one of the most iconic images in fantasy is a shielded knight fighting a dragon try doing that with your dingy sword youâd smelted in seconds
If we go realistically, the shield would be smelted in seconds too. Thatâs not an argument that makes sense from either of us.
not if its a magical shield same canât be said for a magical sword since it would provide no protection
i mean if we are going to argue this
But same can be said for a magical enchanted metal armor, you geniusâŠ
Are you guys even thinking beyond your own imagination?
often relaying only on your armor fails you as most fantasy novels have taught me a shield is a disposal exstra armor for a more wow example
why does varian pick up a shield in the hots trailer for for his hero he has a two handed sword should be able to tank raggy easily right i mean sure his shield got smelted pretty quick but that was still a hit his armor didnât have to take
This isnât a discussion about âhow other games and novels do itâ. This is a discussion about what would benefit the game and what doesnât.
As far as I know his Sword is a Hybrid between a Longsword and a Shortsword. And since he can split it in 2 smaller blades, this argument doesnât really count either.
Aside of that, what Characters do in Cutscenes that are meant to make people go âwooooooow!â and to look cool has nothing to do how gameplay choices can and should affect a video games gameplay.
anyway nothing you say will change how warriors or paladins tank leave the two handed nonsense to the dork knights iâm glad warriors arenât tanking with massive two handed axes like in ff 14 it just looks stupid
And Warriors and Paladins massive shoulders in WoW donât look stupid, huh? Or old classic areas with absolute out-of-rewasonable-scale world models like the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind with an Entrance door as big as a damn sea giant from the Broken Isle Stormheim?
unless you never visited a church before they tend to have rather huge doors
No downsides? Errr they literally have skills using their shield, so that will be a downside!!!
There are reasons why Churches and Cathedrals arenât build anymore in modern days because their entire design is mostly impractical and inefficient.
Also, the Cathedral is not the only classic area with such weird architecture. There are many more. Some Parts and Sections of Icecrown Citadel Raid for example have way too high doorframes to even work in a realistic environment.
Did you even read the post?
Iâm a fox, you expect I can read?
