Can we slow down with mounts and pets every patch?

I mean, yes, I like collecting pets and mounts but I think this got a little too far right now.

Like, every patch tries to top the previous patch by the number of new pets and mounts you can get. Now I open AH to look for purchasable pets and I look what I don’t have and I’m like “I’m never farming this ----!” It’s too much and some of the pets have abysmal drop rates on rares… Every single patch introduces so many pets I no longer care about them. I have over 1600 unique pets right now and… I only remember about some core useful ones that I use in pet battles but other than that I just can’t force myself to care about any of new pets - they might be useful in pet battles but my mind can’t remember movesets of 1600 pets, can it? It’s so much it’s irrelevant - I can win all pet battle tamers and whatnot with a small number of pets anyway.
A lot of new pets are often just recolors and recolors. What is the point then? They want us to spend eternity at farming these pets but at some point you gotta ask yourself - why? Why do that? It’s too much and I’m not done with past patch pets (and mounts) even though I no life this game.

Same with mounts - DF is actually funny with the fact we get mounts from various things and we can’t even use them since we are limited to 4-6 dragonriding mounts with some varied cosmetics to make them appear different. Frankly, I know I got a bunch of mounts in DF but I can’t even remember them anymore. Idk what the KSM mount was. Some non-flying one afaik?
I HATE to bring up an opinion by Asmongold but he said in one of clips I saw on YT that retail sucks because there are too many pets and too many mounts and it’s just getting stupid and I can’t disagree with him - he’s got a point - collecting mounts and pets made sense when it had sensible numbers but the problem is devs try to top each previous patch with “moar content” so casual andies and whiners are happy they have something to do… which they don’t do because who would farm mounts dropping off a rare with less than 1% drop rate if u have 500 other mounts you don’t use anyway?

Devs, give us a chill patch for once - with less mounts and pets so we can actually catch up on old content - I’m still behind with time rifts, dreamsurges or forbidden reach. There is not enough time in the world to do all of that.
Make the game sensible to complete. People will play even if there is just a couple of goals.
And it’s not just my opinion - my friends just gave up on this collecting thing because it’s obnoxious and just overwhelming.

Don’t make me start on transmogs too. While I wholeheartedly welcome the fact we can make raid transmog items with catalyst with ease, the amount of mogs to collect from all kind of content, especially RNG content like time rifts and whatnot is just… too much.
And frankly, again - I can remember some sets from expacs ago but now they threw so many mogs at us I can’t possibly care. AND we have trading post mogs on top of that, mogs and mogs and mogs… where does this madness end? Most of them are ugly and useless and people wanna collect them for the sake of completionism.

To reiterate, we don’t need 150 new pets, 40 new mounts and 700 more appearance items every friggin patch.
Make the endgame enjoyable and people will play.
Make some of the pets/mounts grindy so casual andies can waste their life camping and farming but limit all this insanity we get every patch.

I don’t know what was so bad about reaching exalted with a faction and get their theme mount. It made sense. But, yes, it all went a bit overboard.
I draw the line at rare spawns. They are just not worth the time.

I 100% agree.

I appreciate that some players only play the game to collect items. It is fun to get cool cosmetics.

But we’re at the point now where the rest of the game is suffering.

How is it suffering? Well let’s give some examples.

Let’s take Mechagon and Nazjatar as examples of old Zones. Both zones had regular events, spawning rare, reputations, and achievements. Each zone came with its own background and lore, and working your way through that content felt both rewarding and enriching.

I recently returned to the game after being away for a few months, and it took me 1 week to collect all the rewards from Time Rifts and Dream Surges. I go to Zaralek Cavern the 10.1 zone (we’re still in 10.1) and it’s empty. Why? because beyond a renown track there is next to Zero content there. Forbidden Reach was a bit more fulfilling whilst it was current, but didn’t really last very long.

Going back to Nazjatar. I completed that in the final weeks of BFA and it was still full of players working through the content. Likewise I did Mechagon during Shadowlands and once again, there were plenty of players actively working towards their goals.

Go to Zaralek Cavern, the 10.1 one Zone of Dragonflight, during the 10.1 patch it has mostly been empty.

Now let’s move onto the trading post. I have a real love/hate relationship with the Trading post, and it’s beginning to turn really sour.

I recently went for the High Scholars Grand Staff. What an amazing Staff. It’s the perfect staff for a Kirin’Tor Mage. The Artist who worked on this is truly talented. I would love to see more of their work in the game. I bought the Transmog set from the Shop (with Gold) and created a transmog using a few other bits which I ran around with for a few hours.

But then it just felt empty and plastic. The problem is, although I can appreciate the amazing artwork that has gone into this staff. I have absolutely no attachment to it. I did absolutely nothing to earn that staff besides logging. It is void of any Lore or History and there is no exciting and memorable adventure attached to earning it.

Another example is the Harlequin Outfit. What an amazing work of art. It looks fantastic. But ironically the Set is as much of a Clown as it actually looks. Because once again, there is no attachment to the item. All I did to earn it was log in, and spend an hour ticking off a few boxes in my adventure guide.

However, if they had added a cool quest line or achievement to the Darkmoon Faire, I totally would have been onto that. And with the Weapon. Why are there not any cool Class/Lore/Faction Specific Weapon skins in Dragonflight which look as high quality as the High Scholars Grand Staff?

Whilst I appreciate there are people ready to lap up and free and cheap cosmetic Blizz are happy to throw in the Trading Post. That’s not an excuse to forget about why players are really here. We play an adventure game so we can go on an adventure. So please stop cutting the adventure short.

Good points about the trading post tbh

We are completionists in a game where you can never complete anything because of ridiculous drop rates combined with the overwhelming amount of new mounts/pets per patch
Is there anyone who has ALL the mounts in the game that ever were?

Getting beyond overwhelmed as a collector… good luck to any new players trying their hand at it.

Worst culprits of frustration are long spawn rares to stupidly low drop rates… the worst offender I endured was Silent Glider off Soundless in Nazjatar, 8+ hour respawn to a ~1% drop. Long respawns should NOT have such low drop rates, long respawns should always be a 100% drop.

Zaralek Cavern was dead like 3 weeks after the patch went live.

It’s an area made almost entirely for causal gearing. Problem is getting gear in 10.1 was so quick that even a LFR hero like myself was done with gearing within a month. On 2 characters. My only way to get better gear is to step into heroic raids, which is far above my skill level.

There is almost no reason to be in the cave unless you are looking to gear an alt. Which is done much faster through Dreamsurges and Time Rifts. Making the cave irrelevant even to casuals.

I believe Blizzard said that the things in the Trading post is either old things that missed their respective expansion, stuff that got cut, or new things that didn’t fit into any content patch. Like the Blood Troll transmog supposedly existed way back in BFA but was never made available to players until recently.

Basically, the various gear/mounts/pets would remain unavailable forever if Blizzard hadn’t come up with the Trading Post.

I’m not gonna deny there’s a bloat of vanity items, however I feel that the post you’ve made, should exist in Shadowlands, rather than now. I will mainly talk from the mounts perspective, as I’m a hardcore mount collector, but I genuinly feel DF has taken a major step back in mounts. Hell, there’s literally twice less mounts to collect than it was in Shadowlands or BFA.

The ones that exist though? Pure passive play towards them. How do I feel about it? It’s great. The only rare buzzers this expansion were the Breezebiter one, and the Karokta one. Rest was obtained by just normally playing the game. Remember Shadowlands? There were literally 50 mounts to obtain from rares + you had to be a certain covenant to be able to obtain them.

How so? I personally think, that every .5 / .7 patch has been nothing but a chill patch this time around. I get done with content incredibly quick. I’m an adult with a very nice career, I have a girlfriend, my own place, a nice social life (no kids yet), and I feel I’ve literally beaten DF. I got every character at max level, and I have every vanity item that’s important to me. There’s two factors though:

  1. I don’t PVE on more than 1 character. I got 2.7k rio on this toon, you could say I’m ‘BIS’ geared pretty much, and that’s it. I don’t plan on doing any more PVE-ing, because I’ve beaten the game for myself. What would be the point to run the same content and same dungeons on a different character? The gear will be obsolete in 6-7 weeks time.

  2. When it comes to vanity collecting, you have to develop a coping mechanism. What do I mean with that? You don’t have to collect every single piece of everything. Right now, I’m farming the Aberrus LFR & normal tier sets with the help of Dreamsurges. I only like the set for 4-5 toons, and not for the rest. Why would I bother myself with farming it for every single character I have? It would just burn me out.

Actualy you are wrong. Having rare items is absolutly fine as long as there is few of them. Thing is rarity is only exciting in eviroment what isnt overwhelmed by rewards. Like getting rare item isnt exactly exciting if you alredy sit in 1000+ of similar items. So getting rare item at this point feels more frustrating than fun.

Farming rare mount if there is only few mounts to get is fun and exciting.

Farming rare mount is there is thousands of them is not.

So rarity of items is not problem.
Blizzard shoul just retire majority of wow content and cut down on those rewards.

How is an opinion “wrong”…?

My opnion is that 1+1= 5. M i wrong?

My issue is not the quantity of the cosmetics, but their quality.

More often than not, the cosmetics are a big MEH.

I know they can do better, they have done so in the past with the oldest raid tiers sets and some limited time mogs from past expansions.

What will it take for them to create something awesome again?

There are some interesting class themed trade post sets but they are incomplete and locked behind the limited tenders.

Imagine you could trade developer time from every 10 mounts and 100 recolors to a new dungeon or cool questline.

The former can be generated by some A.I (it probably already is) while the latter needs pure human effort

I feel in a similar way regarding ‘monthly awards’ for doing adventure guide activities. In particular, getting a netherwing drake in such a manner during the expansion dedicated to dragons was ridiculous. Or getting blades of Elune in the same way during the expansion where we travel to the Emerald dream. Or getting the warden set for completing this mindless activity 12 times in the expansion, where there is a separate night elf questline that ends up with reformation of the wardens.

I agree it does feel like overkill even as a collector myself… I cannot begin to imagine what it must feel like for a new player

I disagree on the appearances. I want more options! More! They interest me most.
Besides, I only get what I want and like the look of, so there’s no ‘collector’s stress’.

Yes, the game offers you too much to do and too many things. It would be much better if you spent 1 hour collecting things and then just stopped playing…
To be honest i knew it would be a stupid opinion when you mentioned a certain streamer

This player has 96.5% of all mounts and is the current highest that I know of:-

Imagine you could scrap 4 dungeons, mythic raid and PVP for cool transmogs, mounts and some world content. See the point?
