Can you roll on a tier piece you have already

Can you roll on a tier piece you have already?

Just now I was in a group where I was the only one to roll on a tier piece, but somebody else rolled higher right before I was about to get it. And when I inspected him, he already was wearing the exact same piece of gear. (no he didn’t use it and equip it)

I think he did it because I won a roll on a trinket he wanted from an earlier boss. Even though I needed it a lot more than he did.

You killed the boss, you can roll for it.
Doesn’t matter if you already have the piece or not.

Well if he did what you claim he did, apparently you can.

That’s only your perspective. Nobody decides for other people ‘how much they need - or don’t need - something’.

Ive had a similar thing happen to me on a alt for a headpiece and the player had the headpiece upgraded to max. I whispered the wet wipe but he didnt reply.
Ive also made posts about this kinda stuff and the whole “you shouldnt need for mogs when there is a mog option”
Unfortunately i dont think Blizzard will change anything as not winning a item gives you a reason to redo the content.
I can take losing a roll when it is a upgrade for the winner but it still stings when someone wins for a tmog as i dont see collecting mogs as progression (my personal opinion so dont flame me) as no one has ever said “you cant do this raid/key cause your mog isnt good enough”

If I can roll ‘need’ on something that I want for transmog, I will. Because I need that item then. People claiming they ‘need it more’ are being just as selfish as the person rolling. Let’s be honest: Everyone just wants things for themselves.

I was healing with a str trinket rolling for healer trinket that’s also 40 ilvls above the str trinket. He was rolling for a 20 ilvl upgrade. I’d say most people would’ve agreed with me.

Doesn’t matter what you think or anyone else.
If they could roll need on an item, they have just as much right to it as you.

Do I want group loot gone from LFR? Yes I do. Personal loot was much better imo.
But people rolling ‘need’ when they can is completely fine.

So if I roll with the intent of vendoring, not even tmog. It’s OK?

If you had the ‘need’ option available to you, yes.
You have just as much right to that loot as anyone else who can roll ‘need’.
Doesn’t matter what you’re doing with it after that.

Now… I personally usually pass on stuff if I really don’t need it (and it would be vendored), but that’s not out of the kindness of my own heart. It’s because of a superstition I have: I believe I’ll have a better chance of winning another roll later on if I didn’t win anything yet.

I have no proof of that, but it’s what my lizardbrain is telling me. I guess I never really trust ‘pure randomization’ in games.

Haha. I have the exact same strategy.

If you have it at the same ilvl or higher, no.
If you have it at lower ilvl, it’s an upgrade, so yes.

On the other hand, a healer healing with a healing trinket strongly implies its their main role and you are moonlighting as a healer if you only had a str trink.

They also probably carried your offspec backside although I’m sure you’ll tell us you were top heals by a mile because when are forum posters ever not?

No, not really. You’re not entitled to anything just because your gear is bad.

I’d even say that you healing with a str trinket made the others carry you and put your group at a disadvantage, so he deserved that piece of loot more than you did.

People play for their own sake, not to help low-geared players gear up.

By your logic a geared player should never join any content because there will always be someone with worse gear that “needs an upgare more”

So tell me, what is the tmog option for when rolling? Just decoration?
And yeh ok, people aren’t technically doing anything wrong but I personally am not a douche :slightly_smiling_face:
As stated I don’t class wanting a mog as a need, and ill use the example again that not having a certain mog wont stop you getting into certain content whereas if you arent a certain ilvl then you cant do said content.
Obviously the system isn’t great but people are taking advantage of it when there is a mog option on the rolls.

No you want it. Need is upgrade.

Except for LFR which is a pain when you run only for Transmog purpose.

I hope they will bring back personal loot for everything in TWW.

I’m just saying that if the game gives the option to roll for need, you can roll need. No matter what the reason behind it is.

Okay. But you cannot enforce that mindset on anyone else.
There’s other players who WILL class it as a need. And that’s fine.

So? Why should a perfect stranger care about that?
If the transmog adds to their collection, then that’s reason enough. They do not owe you anything; they rolled need when they were allowed by the game to roll need.

Feeling like you’re entitled more to that loot is the ACTUAL issue here, imo.

Agree to disagree.

But like I said: I do think that LFR (and other queued content) should have personal loot instead of group loot.

In your opinion.
There isn’t a ‘this is an upgrade for me’ button.
There is a ‘need’ button. What that need is, is for every player to decide for themselves. You don’t get to decide that for them.

Yeah, I don’t like these artificial lockouts.
If I put in the effort for slugging through the content, I should get an item for it.
Maybe doesn’t always have to be the top tier item to avoid power creep, but SOMETHING?
Heck I’d settle for reputation items or tokens…

Yeah you can, tertiaries or sockets (head).

People are feeling entitled over a set of pixels again. Nothing new.
