Hey all!
I was training my cooking skill today and thought that I would check AH for some cheap boar meat. I spotted a huge wall of single boar meat’s at sale all with the starting bid of 1 copper and buyout of 99 (!) silver.
I thought that I am not in a hurry and made the one copper bid for all of them. Few moments passed and I received mail from AH telling all the auctions were cancelled and my coppers were returned.
This struck me as odd. Why would the seller cancel the auctions? Is the point trying to get someone buy those meats for 99 silver buyout or is there something else I am not seeing?
Yes that is the point and no there is nothing you are not seeing.
If it’s to good to be true they probably will cancel it unless they forget and you become lucky
Yes they start at low bid so they appear first on the list. But they actually only intend to sell these items via buyout (which is overpriced as hell) and all auctions with bids are cancelled immediately. They are hoping people would think the items listed first are the cheapest ones and people would buy these overpriced items. Pretty annoying actually and made me download AH addon so I can sort buyouts and thus ignore these fake auctions. Highly recommended!

So are you saying that if people keep bidding on their stuff it is pretty annoying for them and messing with their crooked system?

Yes. And that is exactly what I do when I have time. I bid everything so They have to cancel all auctions and create them again. And lose the deposit in the process. Highly recommend everyone doing the same…

As AH cant sort items by BO price, they just use 1coper to be on top of the list, then flood AH with 100+singles and hope ppl will buy their overpriced shlts from top of the list. Its just cancer forcing ppl to use AH addons.

Wait, I thought you couldn’t cancel auctions that someone had bid on!? Or am I misremembering?

Of course they can. It happens all the time… But it should not be allowed. I totally agree. It would resolve the problem…

That’s exactly it, they’re just trying to get 1 gold per meat and are using the 1 copper bid price so that it shows up first.
Keep bidding your 1 copper on those posts though, the money the AH takes from you doesn’t get refunded when you cancel. He’ll stop eventually, or you’ll get food for 1 copper maybe. Who knows.

Default Auction UI sorts item by bid rather than buyout. He wants to sell those items with expensive buyout but he sets low bid to keep them on top. When you bid on items, his items are no longer on top, so he cancels auctions. I think that he loses his deposit by doing so.
Yessum, as long as enough people juust mindlessly bid on posts like this that are 1 copper though instead of giving in to the buyout people like this will stop eventually.
When it becomes inefficient to make money that way. The only people left doing it will just be trying annoy people XD
Why would they stop, they list it for 24 hours and cancel shortly before the timer ends.
Which AH addon? I am (for the same reasons) on the lookout for one that is simple, but can help me use AH without getting too inconvenienced by the single-item-mass-listings.
If people don’t buyout, they loose money on it, and hopefully eventually stop
I use Auctionator and it works well. I did not try other addons so I am not saying it is the best. You can easily sort buyouts and create multiple auctions with 1 click. That´s all I really need.
