Caster vs. Melee Scaling In Raids

Hey,
Which type scales better into the very end-game content (I mean from Molten Core all the way to the Naxx) with the gear that drop from these raids, caster or melee?

Casters scale better but melee start off stronger.

Are you certain? i’m not an expert not having played original vanilla, but from what i read warriors will be topping the dps charts come Naxx. I remember reading a video saying that warriors scale really well, because as they get better gear they also get more rage on top of the abilities hitting harder. So for most classes abilities just hit harder in better gear, but as a warrior you get to press a lot more of them in better gear as well.

Edit: i am of the opinion though that casters scale better with non-weapon gear, although melee get way more bonus from a weapon upgrade.

Warlock and Warrior is probably the two classes that scale best with gear. Hence why they are so gear dependant.

Mage and Rogue scales good too.

Hunter scales bottom tier, they are the weakest scaler in the whole game.

Imo mages outperform locks till even late naxx, at least they did on pservers, even to the very end

Does mage not do the second highest dps on naxx raid logs? i think warlock out scale frost, but come naxx mages will be in fire spec. I’m pretty sure fire mages out scale warlocks by a fair bit.

On the fastest naxx clear on pservers its wars then mage/rogue then lock. At 6 mages, with the ignite distributed.

In a more general terms, warriors, mages, rogues and warlocks all scale well with gear, and will have a decent power curve into naxx. Hunters do not, and will only be taken for tranq shot and kiting, just like one spriest is sometimes taken for weaving.
You could have stuff like disc weaving and hunter nightfall, but that’s world first competition kind of stuff.

spriests are not taken for weaving. Disc priests with points in shadow are taken for weaving. Also hunter can do quite good in naxx, some parses from northdale showed hunter could reach 1400 on patchwerk

Warlock scales better than any other class but only overtake mages in late naxx when it’s already on farm

Warriors and mages outscale everything else

Warlocks never overtake mages

It’s kinda hard to measure, but here’s the rank 1 mage log on patchwerk: https://legacyplayers.com/Raids/Viewer/Default.aspx?id=32467&exp=0&upl=51377

If you distribute the ignite across the 7 mages, the top mage would end up just above 1400 dps. Even if you distribute it across 6 mages, you don’t break 1500.

Meanwhile, rank 1 warlock log: https://legacyplayers.com/Raids/Viewer/Default.aspx?id=37867&exp=0&upl=60960

Fastest naxx clear in pserver history dps on boss + trash, ignite distributed. Need i say more? Patchwerk is irrelevent. The only valid metric is full clear boss+ trash

I disagree.

That’s not a metric that will tell you anything about scaling though, it will just tell you that mages are very good at aoe. If you distribute the ignite and ignore the damage done by aoe spells and engineering, the highest mage ends up doing a total of 2254802 damage rather than 3162335, and the highest warlock ends up doing 2312544 damage rather than 2475783.

It tells you that mages are better at locks at dpsing in naxx. How they beat locks doesnt matter. Fact is they do more dps than locks

Yes, mages do more damage than warlocks when taking aoe trash packs into account. That is not the same thing as scaling better though.

And why wouldnt trash packs be taken into account?

I’m not saying they shouldn’t, I’m saying being able to do aoe damage is not the same thing as scaling well.

I honestly don’t think warrriors will be topping the charts in naxx, like not even close, they will be third on the meter, mages, atleast if you bring enough to keep those crazy ignite progs going will be top, then locks, and then warriors below that.

And to anwser your question. What damage you do on trash honestly does not matter, it litteraly dosen’t, of course you should do enough damage to pull your weight, but being top damage on trash, it dosen’t matter. You can quite effectively clear naxx in 2 raid days a week, not a big problem.

I honestly dont think you have a clue what youre talking about
