Sure, not gonna argue, just don’t tell me this ^ is “social”.
Disagree - you’re playing the same dungeons over and over since over since 2005; the script is the same every time.
kek why the hell play an MMORPG then, play a solo game.
Poor game design of classic which people like you defend makes solo gameplay the only option that doesn’t involve shooting yourself in the foot
“Hey kid, why are you playing chess?”
“BECAUSE I HATE IT”
A game can be enjoyable despite having severe shortcomings. Surely your father & mother loved you despite yours?
I always wonder whether the people who claim that the pvp system was “never about skill” really have been playing the game in its original version back in 2005/2006 or if you guys are just pretending to be the super pros who know everything about this game.
Obviously, I can’t speak for every single server, but on my server and on all other servers where I knew people from, this just wasn’t true. There was no AV grind, because AV was a totally different BG which couldn’t be rushed.
If you wanted to be able to compete in the ranking system, you were required to play in a group and actually win the majority of BGs. And to play in such a group you needed skill.
In general, I agree that the current system doesn’t work. I’ve made a few suggestions how it could be addressed here:
i did r14 grind. in 2019 classic version there was no correlation between skill and ranking.
there were guilds like progress & apes that had bascially full rosters of r14 chars. in bgs they were stomped when they met any decent team, they lost BWL race to calamity with like 1 r14 and after AQ when pve gear caught up with R14 they could no longer win speedruns.
players were really bad in original classic tbc & maybe wotlk btw. modern players despite how bad they are on avg are much better than ppl were back then
Exactly what I was saying. You didn’t play in 2005 but claim that “the pvp system was never about skill.” Which is simply not true. And it’s not so much the players (do you think everyone was just totally dumb back then?), it’s the changes of AV. It was not possible to rush this BG. The most honor could be gained by winning WSG and AB. Or if we could manage to get a considerable number of our players into AV. These were the times when the real fun started, too.
considering ion hazzikostas was one of the best players back then, yes ppl were idiots back then. in 2020 we did WSG/AB (at least as horde) it was very good honor and i never lost
Pvp dosent make “dungeons irrelevant”.
Most dungeons still drop bis or pre bis items that cannot be obtain by pvping atleast this is the case for warriors.
And you still spamm start livibg for orbs
Hoj, sgc, rend weapons, ring ffom last boss, ud cape etc etc.
The issue is that people already got most pre bis or bis items for dungeons.
So there is not really a point to do any of them anymore this was true even before rank system was introuduced.
It was always Silly. 80% of the R14 are account Sharing Kids.
Kids? No……grandads? Likely
I agree, I’d much rather have a different system.
But the problem is that all iterations of WOW PVP haven been bad in one way or another.
The current system is free if you don’t value your time.
2019 ranking was completely degenerate.
Arena is a cringe wannabe esports.
Rated BGs requires too many people.
Now that I think about it, a rated BG fully random solo queue could be interesting.
rated bgs is the only good solution. a normal dungeon requires 5 ppl and they are just suposed to be a stepping stone towards raids. raids in classic are 40 (with catch up being 20). Requiring 10 ppl (Just like dungeons were pre-nerf and UBRS still is) is not too many people.
Solo queue / the current random grp assembly tr*sh is identical to dungeon finder & raid finder, which should never have been added in the first place.
People who want raid finder like BGs deserve AV. WSG & 10 man AB should be exclusively premade groups. Half the jumps in WSG should be patched or made easier too, they just create a stupid barrier to entry making anyone who hasnt played WSG for months literally useless against half competent FCs
The difference between UBRS and rated WSG is that any mouth breathing keyboard turner can clear UBRS, but when we have rated BGs with an incentive to achieve a high rating (gear) then groups become extreme gatekeepy and there is basically no chance for a noob to start out.
Imo the only solution is to make the environment more casual by restricting it to solo queue. Then everyone has the opportunity to grind their own hours and achieve whatever rating they deserve.
Ofc we could have premade queues as well.
We have WSG with mouthbreathers already and it’s a bad experience. You have night elves/tauren players, people afking in flag room, people queuing up with green gear and people with zero awareness that flags are what win you the game.
If your brain is worse than NPCs you deserve to play with and against other people at that level, thus only a rated system would properly distribute people against good opponents. Mouthbreathers would still get to play, just against and with other of their kind.
You also already have normal open world pvp & AV available, why should there be instanced pvp for people who want to put in no effort & leech from teammates?
