I am a serious name junkie! if I can’t get the name that I want on a particular server… I’ll just go through the list of servers until I find it unused and roll there. As much as I want to be on specific servers, the name is more important to me. Am I alone?

If I were a poorly educated American, I’d say “I could care less”.
But since I’m European and I went to college for free, I will say: I couldn’t care less.

Used to be.
Realized I prioritize being able to send stuff/gold and having all in the same guild and community’s more.
Was so tedious having to change realm just to swap class.
You used to be able to send a ticket to Blizzard to free up names, if the name was taken by someone who did not play for a long time. Sadly this is no longer possible and a lot of cool names are taken.
That always confused me. Americans, all makes sense now.
The moment I transferred to Nordrassil I started to find free common names so I adopted that line.
I have a Jodie, Karina, Mindy, Beverly, Audra, Carrie, Ernest, Jesse, Charlene, Marion, Simo…
…and then unusual ones but still unique like Ashlein, Merenwen, Ewiley, and others 
So yeah, names are important to me.

Probably. I just make up an even better name.
Realm population is more important to me

I second this, I’d rather have to think harder to name my characters than get the perfect name on a dead server.

Normally i dont really care, i use the wow name generator to name most of my
characters. But if really want a name and its unavailable i just start adding more letters to the name until its available.

I would move to Argent Dawn in a second if I could get my name, sadly it’s already taken. Maybe it’s still worth a shot and write a ticket, what do you think?
I jumped to Silvermoon when I started since it’s the highest populated Alliance EU server and my friends were playing there. They don’t play anymore and honestly, not a lot of guilds/communities that are focus on things which I enjoy.
And to OP, I am more for the name over server, would be nice to get both, but the game is too old and a lot of good names are already taken, sadly.
Server. To have a good community is much more important to me than the name.
I care for the server mainly, as I just use a name generator for my toons (except this one).
If a name I like is taken I keep scrolling till I see a free name.

If I remember correctly Blizzard has this written somewhere on their Customer Support page, that they no longer free up names. But you can always try, at worst you will just get some copy paste response that they cannot help you.
It is a pity, like people said the game is old and it is annoying having to use accents and weird symbols to get the name you want.
No possible name could lure me away from my beloved RP realm

AD is really tricky to come up with a decent name now…although I kinda like the challenge!
I created a KT female DK on there last week and naming her took ages (final choice Josephena which I quite like).
Im pretty sure the OP is in a very small group though. No point having the best name in the world if your server is either so full its constant queues or completely dead!

Yea, AD is really hard… The closest I came to my name is Dhalgor 
I found the post where they say that they are not free names anymore, but if your bnet is inactive for 2 expansions then they reset the names of all your characters.
I will wait a bit, since I hope Blizz will alow transfers from big servers to lower ones before the expansion, since I have few toons that I would like to have on the same realm (usually its one of each armor type) but mostly my Mage, since she is my bank/farm/fun alt
